10 Pounds Down: Cardio Abs DVD

10 Pounds Down: Cardio Abs DVDI received my copy two days ago and have completed all of the workouts. All three of them are amazing, and this DVD has so much variety and everything you need to target your abs. The cardio portion (about 30 minutes) really got my heart rate up and targeted my abs with a lot of twisting motions and kickboxing combinations. There is a lot of jumping, but I felt that these moves are not high impact enough to aggravate hurt knees. I love strength training so I really liked the concentrated abs portion (about 30 minutes). I used my 10 lb weights (I''m an intermediate to almost advanced exerciser) and sometimes I had to use my 5 pound weights because some of the moves were just really tough! Also, there is another segment about 30 minutes long that involves strength and interval training. This one was perfect because she combined both strength and cardio moves and I was toning while my heart rate was up the entire time. I loved that Jessica incorporated a lot of standing abs work along with the floor work and there are so many new moves you won''t see anywhere else. There is also a bonus workout which is a 4 minute tabata torching session which really gets your heart rate up. I didn''t know 4 minutes of exercising could be so intense! Overall, I enjoyed all of the segments on this DVD and they are perfect for doing each workout alone or in combination and not only do these workouts really target your abs, but you definitely get a full body workout. I highly recommend this DVD especially if you like her other 10 pounds down workouts. This one was my favorite of all of them.

I really enjoyed these workouts! I do like working out in general, so I am biased, but recently I''d bought some fitness dvds that were not great. Or, too repetitive/hard on my joints. I do like HIIT, kickboxing, etc., and I wanted something that I could do in a 1/2 hour if in a pinch. The first day I did the Cardio Abs and the Concentrated Abs. Now, because I had recently had been using Insanity in my rotation, most cardio feels easier, but the Cardio abs moved at a good pace. The concentrated abs had some variations on planks, etc., and both went by pretty quickly. As per Jessica''s instruction, I watched the 4 min Tabata first. The moves are not hard to follow, but will work you. You will feel it. If you were really pressed for time, you could do the Tabata segment 2x. Rest for 30-1 min in between. Today I tried the Total Body Abs Transformer using 10 lb weights and it was a sufficient workout for the time I had today. I may be feeling it in my upper arms tomorrow...Both the Tabata and Total Body Abs sections are challenging and I would say if you were interested, yet unsure of investing in Insanity, these workouts had components similar to that kind of workout. The stretching at the end of the workouts could be a little longer, but I added on a couple of minutes on my own, especially when using weights. Also, though this is an Abs dvd, it has some really good upper and lower body moves. And a final remark about Jessica Smith''s narrative, I was kind of happy that it wasn''t gender-centric. Meaning, a man wouldn''t feel alienated if using this dvd. I am excited about having this in my rotation now.

Quick update 2 days after I did the Total Body Abs, I had some muscle soreness in my shoulders, triceps, hamstrings and inner thighs-this is a good thing! I was working hard! I could work through it the following day, but a little burn goes a long way.

This is my first workout video, so maybe I don''t have the best background knowledge, but I''ve really been enjoying it. It''s not the toughest workout, but it definitely gets me sweating. Each section is 26 minutes (not the 28 minutes promised) which is the perfect length since some of her movements can be a little repetitive. You don''t need any equipment for the cardio section, but you will need a mat for the total body transformation and concentrated abs and heavier dumb bells for the total body transformation (I tried with my 5 lb weights and found them not particularly effective, but when I borrowed a friend''s 8 lb weights, I understood the point of the exercises). The video has a very clean vibe to it which is pretty energizing. Would definitely try other stuff from her!

This is my first review of anything -ever -that is how much I love this DVD! I do a LOT of at-home DVD workouts, and this is my definite favorite. Each workout is only 25 minutes long, meaning I can squeeze it in before work. The Cardio Abs routine is engaging, HARD cardio, which is really unusual for a workout DVD. There is some jumping, but I (1) have bad knees; and (2) workout in my apartment at 5:00am and the jumping isn''t bad enough to hurt my knees or wake my neighbors. I''d say the jumps are more like a quick shuffle, anyway. The concentrated abs section is also HARD, but very effective ab training that is full of unique moves to really train your abs (and I work up a sweat doing this routine as well). The hardest workout is probably the Total Body Abs Transformer (...what does that title even mean?). This is basically three rounds of circuit training -strength moves (which also get your heart pumping) followed by cardio (push-ups and mountain climbers, burpees, etc.). SO hard but so effective.

The thing about each routine being only 25 minutes is that I feel like I can really push myself through the entire thing. Jessica is also really engaging, so I feel like I am working harder than I do with other workout DVDs. I end each session very sweaty and proud :)

I didn''t have 10 pounds to lose when starting these workouts but I''ve been doing them every week for about three months, and I am SO much stronger -not just in my abs but also in my arms and shoulders -and also have a noticeably tighter core. I STILL look forward to doing them when I get up in the morning, which is saying a lot at 5:00am when I''ve been working on these routines for months already! I''ve just bought two more Jessica Smith DVDs because her personality is down-to-earth and encouraging.

I must say, these are probably my least favorite workouts but ones that I find I need to incorporate into my day to keep my daily routine fresh. When your body gets used to the same exercises all the time it begins to become less challenging and thus you burn fewer calories. So, I do have my favorites, kickboxing, pilates, dance and yoga, but I try to incorporate some of these workouts that have more of your crunches, high impact cardio and pushups to kick me into gear. Overall, this is a really good workout-the fun factor for me is low, but the results/sweat factor are big.

Jessica is pleasant without being over the top, her cuing is excellent and she demonstrates modifications where applicable. This dvd includes three workouts that are in varying length from 26-27 minutes, and don''t let the short run-times fool you, the warm-ups are very fast paced too, so you are getting in and really getting those muscles working quickly. No resting here, it is non-stop. The first day I chose the cardio abs-there is a lot of kickboxing and cardio. You could modify somewhat on the cardio if knees are an issue, but I would think that you will gain the most benefit and fat burning with the full on version if you are able to do it. You will be burning fat and toning what is beneath, and that is what you want. After I did this I did the 4 minute tabata workout-4 minutes of maximum intensity cardio. I felt like I had been running after I finished these two and that was it for that day. The next time, I tried the total body abs, using 5 lb weights. They suggest 3-5 lb weights for beginners and 8+ for more advanced. As I do not do a lot of weighted workouts, I stayed at 5 lbs and when they seem to be too light will move up, but not right now, it is more important to have the good form. I thought this was a great workout, good balancing exercises and all over toning with weights. I paired this with the concentrated abs, which is just what you think it is....abs, abs, abs.....standing and floor. After finishing, again, I felt like I really had a sweat going and was challenged.

Overall, a good dvd-good cuing, good instructor, natural studio type set, nothing glam or over the top, and good, effective exercises. If I had drawbacks, it would be that the music was not great, kind of a driving beat that really didn''t do much for me...would have rather just had the instruction or heard less of the music. I will probably end up borrowing this one again, but have not decided if I feel like I want to add it into the weekly rotation....the fun factor is not high for me, like with straight kickboxing or yoga, so I will most likely borrow it for a while, gain some experience and get a little better at it and then decide. I would say this is an intermediate to advanced workout, so if you are at the beginning of your weight loss or toning journey, I would choose a video that starts a bit slower as this is really aimed at those that are more intermediate exercisers used to raising their heart rate quickly and are somewhat comfortable with the moves.

I would definitely seek out more of her videos and also enjoy her in the Guillermo Gomez kickboxing series as well as his Yin/Yang Fusion, which Jessica fans might also like.
