Length:: 0:12 MinsThe adjustment you see on the left of the main picture and seen in the video is screwed into a piece of plastic with coarse threads on both the bolt and receiving end, instead of fine threads. Screwing the red nut in does not get rid of all the play you see in the video; with weight, it slides down. That plastic/coarse threads lead to movement and allows the bike to lean down on the left side and set the tire on the roller weird and you wobble.
1.) The adjustment does work for levels of strength vs other trainers out there that say it does not work and is useless.
2.) Quick release is the best feature.
3.) The noise with a 700x25 road tire is not bad. With the cell phone sound meter app I got 52db with the clicking while you pedal backwards, 59 db at the most while pedaling forward with the cellphone near the handle bars. As a comparison typing was 49 to 53 db as I was typing, but the cellphone was a foot away from the keyboard. My wife crumpling a ziplock bag 15 ft away was 42db.
I might weld on a metal nut to the left side so the adjuster won''t wobble or one of my ideas below. Wrapping the threads in a lot of tape and screwing it in with vice grips helped with the play 80% and that may be enough for me but we will see if it wears down over the week. The next thought would be to use something like 5 minute JB Weld and set it where I need it and make sure it is level until it hardens. My other choice is to spend a lot of money for a very expensive quick releasing trainer. And I really do want quick release, it''s amazing to have.
I think the problem would be solved if the bolt just was a full bolt on the left side like all the rest of the $60 trainers that have a handle on the outside of the frame to adjust, so the bolt had more stability through the whole frame joint. That part may exist somewhere for $10 also.
overall, I think JB weld for $4 would be easy for anyone to do. So if you ride the bike you are going to put into this trainer then I would say that this would be the best choice for a quick release trainer instead of spending hundreds of dollars. I''ll make it work for a year or more until I get sick of it and I''m sure I will use it enough and then get a pro trainer for $400-ish
The trainer does work, but the gear selector is weird and doesn''t feel like it''s working, but using my own shifters I can change the gears through them. The trainer is very loud as you can hear yourself on the video, and this is without a video or TV being on. Even with a movie on, you can still hear it very clearly, hard to drown out the noise. I suppose it''s ok for the winter, at least you can ride anytime you want. The trainer is very light weight about 20 lbs and does fold up nicely for storage and it comes with the front leveling block which you do need. I have to tell you, the trainer sits up very high, and it''s a stretch to get on and off it. Hard to show in video with only one hand, didn''t want to end up on u-tube, you knowflat on my face, ha ha. I did try to let you hear different speeds, even at low speed it''s still very loud. But for the price of 74$ I guess it will do, just crank up the tunes or movie or better still wear headphones!! The axle worked fine, and unlike the other video, once I spun the red adjusting knob, I had no such drop or wobble in mine, maybe the other one was made on Friday, huh?? ha ha. The quick change is nice but still time consuming for me having to always change the axle as the one on my bike won''t fit due to it''s flat style quick release. I''m going to give it a couple of days then decide if I can handle the noise or not. Functional yes, light weight, easy to use/store...but the hum and also some unwanted vibration in the seat, didn''t want to mention...but want to be upfront with as much info to help. Hope I can adjust that away, don''t want to be making faces afterall. ha ha ha ha...
Bottom line: good value if you can stand the whining jet noise.
