Ill start with the pros: this bike is whisper quiet, making using it while watching tv (even with family members in the room totally possible, which is a huge plus.
But the negatives soon come into the picture...
1. Its a recumbent bike that makes you sit at a 90 degree angle.. I know it looks like like an angle in the picture, but trust me, once you bolt this thing in you are sitting perfectly straight and what this does is it drives all your weight down to your tailbone... After 45 minutes on bike I literally could not stand up, it felt like I was kick in the ass by professional NFL kicker.. no joke.
2. See that display thingy at the front of the bike, it tells you distance, speed etc? Well thats attached to the bike by a metal joint that is screwed in to a piece of plastic backing. It works great until you put about 4 lbs of pressure on it and it breaks. As what happened to me as I was building it. This piece is a huge R&D testing error, it clearly needs to be made of metal as the slightest weight will break it. It clearly has has 3 screws that that would make replacing it a breeze, but i did not see the part listed in the replacement parts in the instruction booklet.
Dont get me wrong, its not that bad of a bike, but if it hurts to use it was a no go for me... MSRP should be around 140-160... and dont fall for padded reviews on overstock.com... I am sorry but zero negative reviews on the product, it had me very suspicious after the fact.As far as I can tell, same bike as 300SR. Had to write a review quickly because the first one is so negative. Got this bike today, put it together in 45 min. My son bought it for me from wayfair.com for $142.18, basically the same price as the 300SR here at Amazon. I am a 68 yr old female, handicapped. Alone, I put the bike together in 45 min or less. Read instructions first. Are crystal clear even if you''re a moron. It''s just unscrewing a screw and replacing it with the proper part. Look forward to good workouts. Doc said all I can do is use stretch bands and stationary bike. Here''s to new life!Received the 400XL came without pedals. Emailed the merchant received pedals in about 2 weeks. Installed the pedals , check out the tension settings , very happy with the settings , the highest one was quite difficult to pedal exactly what I wanted. After using the bike about 5 times the pedals kept coming loose after about 10 minutes. Contact the merchant , they send me another bike. take the parts I need , send the part I replaced back to the merchant. Assemble the bike , right away starts making a grinding noise but pedaled good. So thought I could live with the noise. Now after using the 400XL for about 3 months the pedals constantly slip , VERY frustating. I am now looking for a new bike. That''s why I''m here.
Pros Easy Assembly / well written instructions "be sure to read before assembly" / comfortable / doesn''t take up much room / foldable / if worked propertly would be very happy with it.
Con : Pedals Constantly skip / maybe I was just unlucky and got 2 lemons. Regardless , Will NEVER buy another Exerpeutic product.
If worked properly would be a 5 star product. but not being able to pedal smoothly or at least semi smoothly , well that''s just a real bummer. Highly do NOT recommend
Update 02/08/2013 : Shame on me .... I LIED . Went and bought another Exerpeutic 900XL this time. Guess what worked beautifully for 6 weeks then starts making a grinding noise. tried to fix ... no go , took apart scavenged what I thought might be useful , obviously don''t recommend the 900XL either. Looked at the Exerpeutic upright bike , it gets 4.5 stars too , was actually slightly tempted , but fool me twice "since was a replacement shame on Exerpeutic" fool me 3 times SHAME ON ME . Seriously will NEVER buy another exerpeutic product ..... I think. If I do I deserve to get ripped off again. How these Exerpeutic products consistently get 4.5 stars , I have no clue.
