Suunto t3d Heart Rate Monitor and Fitness Training Watch(Black)

Suunto t3d Heart Rate Monitor and Fitness Training Watch(Black)I really wanted this HRM watch from Suunto to work, but after only 1 lite workout, the face was already marred. I may have bumped up against some equipment, but nothing that should have left a marked. I have two other Suunto watches, dive computers, and they are indestructible. These watches have been hit up against rocks and metal with some slight scratches to show for it. Bottomline, while the functionality is there, this watch is isn''t worth the money due to the poor quality of materials used.

I''ve owned several suunto watches for different purposes. I''ve never been disappointed at all. Most of the complaints are about the scratching of the face. I buy face protectors and I never have an issue. I''m currently using this watch with the foot, bike and pc pod and I love it. It tracks all my running, biking and weight training info. Get a suunto and you will love it.

For years, I struggled with a Polar heart rate monitor. I would have to wet the strap, sometimes wait up to 20 minutes for it to "warm up" and detect a signal, and endure constant signal "drop outs" creating large gaps in my training data. Eventually, I''d had enough, and decided to try this particular watch out because it was on sale at REI. I''ve been using it for three months now and I''m extremely satisfied.

First, the watch looks really nice. It''s very slim and doesn''t scream "training computer," so it''s definitely suitable to wear at the office, while traveling, or pretty much anywhere without looking out of place.

When you put the heart rate strap on, the signal is picked up immediately. I haven''t had to dampen the electrodes or wait for it to warm up; you simply put the strap on, turn the watch to training mode and you''re good to go. The signal is extremely solid; you can do pretty much any physical activity in this thing regardless of how much it contorts your torso and the watch will still pick up your heart rate no problem.

The interface is admittedly a little confusing, but with some practice you''ll get used to it. Recalling data is simple, there is multiple time zone support, stopwatch... pretty much every basic function you''d expect. The calories burned function is, as far as I can tell, very accurate after you subtract the calories you would have burned sitting still.

As far as cons go, there are very few. The battery life is good, although not as good as on my Polar (I had to replace the t3ds battery after about 3 months of heavy, near-daily use). Others have complained that the screen is difficult to read, although personally I have no problems.

Over-all, if you''re looking to spend less than 200 bucks and get an extremely reliable heart rate monitor, this is your watch.

First to answer the question about durability. Yes this watch does scratch if you look at it funny. Yes, polywatch works great and gets out all the scratches very quickly. I would recommend just getting the $9 Zagg screen protector and calling it good.

I have been working out pretty hard for a about a year now and started off with a basic timex watch that just recorded the average HR and time of workout. I would then have to go to my computer and use the website to figure out my calories burned. Now with this watch I get everything I wanted and some great surprises too.

First it allows you to setup the watch for you specifically and gives you immediate returns on what you want to track. I use the current HR and calories burned. Also, which is great is it gives me my HR zones and lets me know how hard I am working so I don''t slack off. With the combined tones I don''t have to keep checking on my watch to see if I am in the zone or back to recovery.

To sum it up. Great workout tracking watch. No GPS or altimeter but you can get the pods for that anyway or upgrade to the much more expensive T6. I am very happy and recommend highly to anyone wanting to track your fitness.

Firstly, I am looking for quality and not style...If you only want style, I would go to walmart and get a knock-off timex or something...It accurately takes your heart-rate and can monitor performance. I have had mine for over 4 years and just got it scratched but it still works...Even if the lens was made of glass, it would still be scratchable...I think Suunto is a great company that puts out good product at an affordable price...Keep in mind, this watch is slightly over bucks...don''t expect the same quality as the t6 or some other brand that lists at .
