These shorts are very rugged. I''ve washed them several times and they look new. The drawstring is a sturdy rope (like clothes line material). I doubt it will ever break but it does leave lent on the shorts occasionally. No big deal. Also consider that they are very short. Some people wear them over bike pants to be a little more modest. That looked goofy to me so I gave that up after one time at the gym. I do plan to buy more of these.
