The one thing I really like about this mat is that it is firm, and also that it comes in black. I can slide it under my couch and since it''s not a bright blue or bright red, it doesn''t detract from the living room decor. I didn''t want a mat that was too soft or too hard, and this one seems to fall right in the Goldilocks zone, just right. It folds up really easy, and there is a velcro strip on the side walls. This velcro strip will let you add another mat next to it, or you can just press the handles (that also have velcro on them) into the sidewalls when it''s folded up and that will help keep it secure on one side. You can''t secure the other side, but with one side secure it keeps all folded-up pretty good. It''s like a built-in strap without them putting a strap on it. The handles work well too and haven''t gotten in my way while doing exercises. When it''s unfolded, you can press the handles into the sidewalls so they don''t get in the way of your workout. It''s vinyl and easy to clean, just spray and wipe.
I''m marking the mat down a star because one of the vinyl panels is a little looser than the other two. It''d be great if they were all nice and tight, but they''re not. The person making it just needed to pay more attention to detail; I''m sure this will vary by mat. It works though, and I''ll continue to use it. The looseness of one panel could annoy some if you''re going to be jumping and moving around on it a lot. Since I only use it for ab work, it''s not an issue.
FYI, this mat is not good for yoga as you''ll want something more firm. I''ve been using it for P90x and it works fine, with the exception of the Yoga part of course. If you''re going to do P90x and want just one mat, get a Manduka Yoga Mat.
If you have any questions about this mat that I haven''t addressed, just ask in the comments and I''ll try and respond promptly.I ordered 2 of these gym mats for my girls (11 &9) who are both in gymnastics. The gym mats are very sturdy and thick. For the most part, they are great. However, one of the mats ripped at the seam, and that was only after 2 weeks of use. We can live with the rip. I thought the price was fair for the product. I recommend this product for its sturdiness and reliability.
My girls really enjoy the gym mats and can do a lot of practice at home now that we have these!!!Bought this mat for my daughter for Christmas. The mat looked sturdy and was exactly what she wanted. I was pleased w/ it too until now..... it already broke!!!!
The mat ripped!!! My child has had it for 10 days and it broke already????? 4 out of the 10 days we were traveling so she hasn''t even played on it that much. I''m so disappointed!!!This is the second mat I''ve purchased and my daughter really enjoys practicing her gymnastics on them. They are sturdy but light so that she can fold them and carry them around with her to friends'' houses or out to the driveway. I gave it a four because this mat seam tore in the area of the fold shortly after she used it. the other one has not been a problem at all and we''ve had it for over a year. It''s a good product and I recommend it.My young gymnist was practicing on the carpet and pillow. I got this for her ninth birthday. She loves this mat and spent an hour practicing as soon as she got it.
