Spinervals Competition 29.0: Dropping the Hammer

Spinervals Competition 29.0: Dropping the HammerSpinervals 29 is an intense interval workout that works well for training programs such as The Time Crunched Cyclist, Road Bike Rider interval workouts and others. The short, high power intervals in the workout will help you raise your power at threshhold by pushing your V02max if you do the workout right. If you can put up with Coach Troy screaming to push, push, push at the end of each interval, this is a great workout.

This is a good approximately 60 minute workout in a classic high intensity interval set format. If completed correctly, you will definitely feel it afterwards. In general the interval sets increase in intensity and in reps while the reps decrease in time. As with all Spinerval videos you need to closely mind Troy''s recommended cadence, gearing, perceived effort, and heart rate zone for each set to get the most out of the workout. The setting and music are acceptable but not great. This is a good Spinervals video to play the people watching game. For example, try to find the one person besides Troy not really doing the workout in the video. I''d like to see the dashboard include a simple number of reps completed to total reps for the set. That would be useful for a number of the Spinervals videos. Four stars.

I''m a big fan of all the Spinerval and Runerval DVDs (or at least the ones I''ve seen). They are great at helping reduce the boredom of training indoors. Plus I find that interval training has improved my biking and running tremendously.

I enjoyed this workout. It''s quite challenging and keeps me engaged. Jackobson mixes up the intervals so the workout moves along and the time goes by quickly. Riding the trainer aimlessly indoors can be mind numbing but this one is anything but. It leaves my legs shaking at the end of the hour. If you''re going to ride you might as well make it as productive and interesting as possible. I recommend it!
