Cathe Friedrich''s Vol. 1 Intensity Series: Imax 2 and Cardio & Weights DVDLet me just start my review by saying that this is not a workout video for beginners. For advanced exercisers, though, this is an excellent addition to your collection.

Imax 2 is a step aerobics workout. After a warm-up, it is arranged in 10 interval cycles. Each interval consists of a step routine, an intensity blast, and a short recovery period. The step routines technically are pretty easy. What makes this video challenging is the high intensity and high impact moves in the blasts. Even though it is tough, Imax 2 is a lot of fun. This is due in large part to Cathe''s encouraging personality. The music is very good, featuring some recognizable songs. The workout ends with a cool-down and stretch period.

Cardio and Weights is a circuit workout. There are four step cardio segments that are each followed by compound weights and heavy weight training. There is a segment of ab exercises after the final bit of weight training, followed by a cool-down and stretch. The music is also very excellent in this workout.

This is pretty expensive for an exercise video, but it has been well-worth the purchase price for me. Not only are the workouts themselves great, Cathe''s DVDs come with a variety of premixes that allow you great flexibility when it comes to your workout.

Love Cathe but this one is just not for me. The complex step choreography left me extremely frustrated -I spent half the time just watching the TV screen, completely lost! And Cathe was cuing AS she does the moves, which didn''t help. I simply couldn''t keep up. Give me a straightforward, athletic workout where I don''t have to learn a whole lot of fancy footwork, and I''m happy. That being said, if you''re experienced with step workouts or you''re very coordinated, then this might be for you. It looks intense & challenging. Beginners and people with two left feet: keep looking.

When I call this the best workout duo, keep in mind, I''ve never (ever) been crazy enough to do both workouts on the same day. Cathe''s workout''s tend to be geared toward a more advanced level, but even being someone who works out regularly, these workouts (especially IMAX 2) get me every, single time.

Cardio & Weights is a great, slightly lower impact workout that alternates a step segment with a weight segment. You hit everything, and depending on your level, you can heavy up the weights to really push yourself. And don''t think for a second that the weight segments are any kind of break. I''m often more out of breath after doing weights, but then it''s right back into cardio.

Imax 2, to this day, is my all time favorite Cathe workout. It''s high intensity step aerobics and it''s a challenge. Again, you''re able to intensify some of the moves to better fit your level, but once you hit the 5th circuit (10 total) fun time is over, and I always feel like I accomplished something big making it through this workout.

One thing I really love about this combo that I''ve noticed hasn''t been happening with her newer workouts is the music. She uses songs we all know off the radio and for me it makes a difference. Maybe because it gives me something else to think about rather then how my legs are about to fall off? Regardless, I love songs with a great beat that I can hum along to, and the really enjoyed the music selection for both workouts.

I have many Cathe DVD''s and love all of them. This is my favorite. IMAX 2 has got to be the best thing she has ever done. It is a quick learn (as are most of her routines) and a tough challenge (as are most of her routines). This one starts out very basic. The blasts that follow each step interval get tougher as you go. The second to last blast is by far the hardest, then Cathe shows some mercy on the final one. Cardio and Weights is just as easy to follow and learn. These 2 routines are always in my rotation. I credit IMAX 2 to my losing the "hardest to lose final 10 lbs". You cannot go wrong with her workouts. Good music, good instruction, great cueing, and in all, two great workouts.

Cardio & Weights is my favorite Cathe''s DVD. The music is uplifting and the routine is plain fun!! It''s also doable as I believe is only 50 min. long. This is more of an intermediate workout. Cathe does cycles of cardio using the step and also weights. I have so much fun with this workout!!

Imax 2 is also Excellent. This is a cardio workout that consists of 10 intervals. Now this DVD is TOUGH... it will definitely test your cardio capacity. Some of the step routines are pretty advanced. I love doing IMAX2 on Saturday mornings when I well rested :)

Cathe definitely puts together the BEST workout DVDs. I''ve been doing her DVDs for about 2 months and I''m seeing GREAT results!!! If you want results then Cathe is for you!!
