I will say, perhaps the more expensive new model has better sensors but I was not willing to spend an extra 500 bucks. I''m writing this because I could not find one review on this machine anywhere on the internet that was useful. This machine is great for any user level. My husband is also an avid skater and says it hurts his knees but I think its because he refuses to decrease the resistance....so stubborn! The programs are extensive and relatively easy to use. You can save your user profile which would be really great if the calorie count and heart rate monitor worked a little better. Again, I have to say these were not a deal breaker because this it like no machine I have ever used and I love it.My wife bought this machine because she loved the motion she had tried on a different machine when we were living in New York. She bought the top version, SST8000, because she is very picky about the stats. I am not. I do not like the motion, which, even with no tension at all, hurts my knees. The main problem is that the electronic does not work. It either gives erroneous readings or no reading at all--I compared those readings with those of the machines I use regularly at the YMCA. We have not been able to get it to work so far, even though I spent lots of time with a contact at the company to try to fix it. My wife paid an outrageous $2,000 for this machine that has all the bells and whistles. But they do not work. One can get a very good quality elliptical motion machine with much better electronics, etc. for $700 at Costco, so this is a very bad deal indeed. I worked on airplanes for years and from that experience I can tell the designer of this machine did not spend much time thinking about maintenance. So if you hope to fix it yourself, be ready for lots of frustration. My wife still likes the exercises but the cost-benefit analysis makes this machine a very bad deal and is not recommended by this reviewer.
