Expand-Your-Hand Bands

Expand-Your-Hand BandsI was happy to receive my 12$ "rubber bands" and I was eager to try them out. I gave one to my friend who uses grips all the time so he can train his opposite muscle and not end up with a bad case of tendinitis. Well the strongest one of them broke on me the second day I was using it. I had the rubber bands in my room where barely any sun enters and I thought to myself "maybe thats just defective at least I have a couple of others". My friend told me the next day that his tore as well. I tried my luck with another one also (a red one I believe) and it also broke! This was a waste of 12 dollars. I went to Officemax and bought myself a big bag of thick rubber bands for like 5$. They work great, just fold it twice and it''s even harder to expand than the red version!

For those who are willing to purchase this product. Don''t waste your money on rubber bands with a silly sticker on it. Go to any store that sells rubber bands and buy the thickest and most durable ones you can find, that''s a better, cheaper, and more practical solution (you have so many rubber bands available to you in case one of them breaks.

I like these bands. I use these along with the Captains of Crush Hand Gripper No. 1 and the Gripmaster Exercise Tool, Light, to give my fingers and hands a good workout.

The workout is pretty straight forward. You put the bands around your fingers, place them just under the fingernails and try as many times as you can to expand your fingers outward.

It''s a good workout, too. I do the reps until I feel the "burn" in my fingers. I do two sets each hand about twice a week. Now I feel more dexterity with my fingers after using these bands. I''m using the blue bands now (see photos posted). The other bands (except the red ones) are really too weak to give my fingers any real type of workout.

I am not a doctor or hand specialist, but I do feel using these are a good workout. If you are a weight lifter, practicing martial artist, or especially a musician learning/playing a stringed instrument(s), etc., working with these bands will definitely be beneficial to you. I am happy with them so far.

Now while these bands, I feel, do give your fingers a good workout. These are still basically rubber bands. IronMind states these bands are specially treated. Good. I do follow the advice of IronMind in "keeping these bands in a drawer, out of light, and definitely out of direct sunlight -and also away from heat (so not in the glove box in your car during the summer, etc.)".

But I still have the question in my mind: How long will these bands last?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update: Monday June 14, 2010

"But I still have the question in my mind: How long will these bands last?"

The bands should last about a year and a half (give or take a few months).

I was using the blue bands (the next strongest after the red bands) about twice a week, keeping them in a drawer when not in use.

Then one day while I was using them, I noticed a small hole developed in one of the bands. I did another stretch and then Pop! No more band.

I recommend that if you''re going to use these bands, use just one (you get 10 bands, five different colors, 1 set of each color) at a time for both hands. You''ll get longer use out of them.

I was a little skeptical about this product at first. Honestly, who wants to pay for some really big rubber bands? I went ahead and purchased a set of these when I was purchasing a few other things from Ironmind and honestly I use these more than most other products.

These bands provide 5 different strengths and so that you may vary the resistance. In addition, unlike everyday rubber bands these are extremely durable and the perfect size. The smaller bands also work great as a rehabilitation tool for people with wrist or hand injuries. If you work with your hands on a regular basis and constantly find some residual pain in your hands, wrists or forearms you must try these out.

Overall this is an amazing, portable, workout. Once you try these you will be truly amazed at the difference they make.

I''m a big fan of IronMind''s Captains of Crush hand grippers. Little makes me happier than seeing that the US is still making some of the highest quality products available. The same can be said for the "Expand-Your-Hand Bands". Yeah they are simply rubber bands and it is conceivable that you could perform the same excercise with common inexpensive bands of inferior quality. That said, these bands ARE ideally suited for the task... For MOST hands. But for those with large hands, you may be dissapointed as I was. My digits can comfortably span 7 inches apart without bands. However with the bands on I was only able to achieve 5.5 inches of seperation between any two opposing digits before reaching what I believe to be the functional limit of these bands. I had the same experience with all the included bands (so I don''t think it was a limitation of my hand strength). I''m sure this product will be an excellent choice for most. But for those with large hands, you might want to explore other options. Hopefully in the future IronMind will release another line for varying sized hands.

Like Mr Sprouffske, I got these bands along with a Captains of Crush gripper. I figured that with the gripper I would be working my hand muscles a certain way and it would be great to have something to work them in the exact opposite direction for greater mobility and strength. Hence these bands.

They work great! A lot of people work on computers all day long. Our hand muscles and wrists get tired, over-worked, and cramped from that work all day long. Even if you exercise regularly, your hands and forearms are still not getting a focused workout. That''s where Ironmind''s products come in. I have the ''Trainer'' gripper and these bands and have been using them for a little while now. I feel increased strength in my grip and my forearms.

I work out twice a week with these (usually on my two days off from gym workouts) and use both the gripper and these bands together for a comprehensive forearm and hand workout. Both these products are super convenient to pack on a trip out of town as well, since they are so compact. Whether you work out regularly with weights or not, you will benefit from these products as good gripping strength is fundamental to most everything we do. Plus it will, I suspect, keep you from getting painful arthritis as you grow older.

ASICS Men''s Ecoline Short Sleeve Top

ASICS Men''s Ecoline Short Sleeve Shirt, White, X-LargeThis shirt fits pretty true to size compared to alot of other workout/running shirts that tend to run a bit smaller. I ordered both the red and white colors but had to return the white since it was bit too ''see through'' for my tastes.

Icebreaker Women''s Tech Bodyfit 260 Top

Icebreaker Women''s Tech TopThis Tech Top turtleneck with the half-zip in black is my favorite top in the world! Five or six years ago, I bought one in black (which was the only color option that I remember having), then I got two more in the same color when it was on sale about a year afterwards, in case they stopped making it. They are still in good condition after a crazy number of wearings/washings. Those tops are 5 stars, no question!

I bought a new one of these tops last week (Dec 2012), expecting it to fit the same as my earlier ones, but it did not. I ended up returning it.

Firstly, the neck was way too high it pressed up on the underside of my chin uncomfortably, it wouldn''t "scrunch" casually around the neck because the material was too stiff, and it just looked silly, thick and awkward (on me, anyway) with the top half folded down on the bottom half. I don''t mind tall turtlenecks but this was just too high. A couple of weeks ago, I saw somewhere another recent review of this that mentioned how surprisingly tall the turtleneck part was now that I have tried the 2012 version of this top, I know what she meant.

Secondly, the sleeves were too long. These sleeves do have thumb holes, but even so, they were lots longer than my thumbs.

Thirdly, the material seemed a bit less nice than before. This might be because I ordered a grey one this time and was comparing it to my old black ones.

I would give the particular top I returned a 2-star rating, but in honor of my older Tech tops and my general appreciation of Icebreaker, I have put 3 stars here.

Some general info on Icebreaker:

Because some of Amazon''s listing descriptions for Icebreaker items have very few details about the products, making it difficult for the customer to make an informed purchasing decision if he/she is unfamiliar with this brand of clothing, below I''ll type some information and personal impressions about Icebreaker clothing.

(Some of Amazon''s Icebreaker listings do provide a lot of useful detail from the manufacturer -such as the product description on the following listing: "Icebreaker Women''s Tech Bodyfit 260 Top".)

Note that my review is quite long and usually only the first half of it is shown on this page. If this happens on your screen and you wish to read the second half, all you have to do is press the "read more" button at the bottom of the review and Amazon will show you the rest of it. :-)

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Icebreaker''s marino wool items are generally made well, last a long time, are easy to care for, feel fantastic on the skin, are "natural", don''t get smelly easily like polarfleece does, let the skin breathe, etc.

Many of my Icebreaker items have been worn and washed several hundred times and are still holding up much better than would be expected.

I am a BIG fan of this company''s products. For my overall experience of them from around 2000-2010, I would give them a solid "5 stars"!

However, I regret to say that my opinion of the items I have bought from Icebreaker in 2012 is not as high. In the last 2 weeks (late 2012), I have bought 7 items from them and I decided to return all of them because they aren''t as well-cut as the very "same" items that I bought in the 2000s (which I still have and wear, so I can make like-for-like comparisons easily).

Based solely on my 2012 experience of Icebreaker products, I would give them 3 stars, "it''s ok". For me, this is not good enough to command prices of $50 $100+ for quite simple items, even if the basic wool material itself is outstanding and long-lasting.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH ICEBREAKER

I bought my first Icebreaker clothing about 13 years ago when I needed some long underwear for skiing.

Up until about 6 years ago, I had been buying Icebreaker items very sparingly, due to the eye-watering prices at London UK sporting goods shops . Then, I discovered that Sierratradingpost sells various Icebreaker styles (usually discontinued items from years past) on their site for a discount. Fortunately, for a couple of years after I discovered this, they had a large selection of women''s Icebreaker stuff, so I bought quite a few things for great prices. (These days, Sierra''s Icebreaker selection for women appears to be smaller, and the prices comparatively higher, than before. I expect that there are more discounters they have to compete with now, to get that kind of stock.)

In addition to bricks-and-mortar sports shops and Sierratradingpost, I have also bought Icebreaker items from several sporting goods online retailers, Amazon, and the Icebreaker website.

I still have almost every Icebreaker item I''ve bought. Even the discounted items have been somewhat pricey, but the quality and longevity were worth the initial investment.

In the last two weeks, I have tried to replace a few of my key Icebreaker items but found the fit and cut of the current versions of the same items to be sub-par. I will keep using my old items for another year, and hope that next year''s fit and cut will be better-suited to my body shape.

CAVEAT

What I have written below is based on my current knowledge about their products, but it is possible that I have misunderstood some aspects of the brand.

If you wish to better understand their product offerings, I would absolutely recommend that you have a look at the Icebreaker official site to view their entire range and gain more clarity about what items are for what purposes, what the wool weights are about, what the quality levels of the different clothing collections are, etc.

(Unfortunately, their website, while snazzy, does not fully explain these things, leaving it up to the customer to piece some of the puzzle together.)

----------------------

ICEBREAKER WOOL WEIGHTS:

Icebreaker''s marino wool items generally come in four weights of fabric: 150, 200, 260, or 320. This is "grams per square meter".

150 is quite thin.

It provides light warmth.

The material is generally see-through. (I wouldn''t wear items of this weight out and about in public without anything over them, but some reviewers have said that they do.)

It''s good for a first base layer, for strenuous exercise, or for sleeping in.

Their items of this weight, especially in the ranges intended for athletic use, tend to be really form-fitting in one''s typical size.

All Icebreaker material seems VERY resilient and long-lasting to me, but because the 150 wool weight is pretty thin, it is the likeliest to be torn, develop holes, get "runs" (like pantyhose). I don''t think this happens too much with it, but I''ve seen some reviewers mention it (most often talking about how they accidentally poked holes in it with long fingernails), and three of my 150-weight leggings have developed runs in them after several years of heavy use.

200 is slightly thicker, but still on the thin side.

It''s pretty warm.

The lighter colors are definitely see-through, such as grey and cream. My older black and brown items made out of 200 weight wool don''t seem to be see-through, but some of the newer dark-colored ones might be.

It''s good for a base layer or mid-weight layer, for exercise, and sleeping in.

Especially in the ranges intended for athletic situations, their items of this weight tend to be form-fitting in one''s typical size.

260 is on the thicker side.

It''s definitely warm, a cozy weight.

None of my 260 items are see-through. I can wear tops made out of this weight on their own (without anything over them) and not worry that my underwear or too many lumps&bumps will show through.

It''s good for a mid-layer or top-layer, and sleeping in (if you get cold at night, like I do).

Items of this weight tend to fit looser than items of the same size in the 150/200 weights do. This may have something to do with how much naturally-stretchier the thicker fabric is, but it also seems that they cut these 260-weight items bigger because this weight is often worn as a top-layer or middle-layer, instead of as a base-layer.

I like this weight the best. I think that the company says that this is their most popular weight across the board.

320 is thickest, of course.

It is quite warm, very toasty and sturdy.

This weight is generally a top-layer, so items made out of this material are relatively loosely-cut.

--------------------------

ICEBREAKER LINES / RANGES / "COLLECTIONS" OF CLOTHING:

Icebreaker makes different ranges some intended for wearing as normal underwear (like panties and sports bras and tank tops), some intended for wearing as thermal/long underwear, some intended for wearing as everyday clothing, and some intended for wearing as athletic wear.

Even though at first glance most of their items appear VERY similar to each other, there are different feelings to the fabrics (even in fabrics of the same wool weight), different quality levels, different cuts, and different design details amongst these different lines, so it is good to check their website about the particular Icebreaker item you are thinking of buying to make sure that it is intended for the activity you want it for.

Two of the popular ranges at the lower end of the Icebreaker price scale are:

Bodyfit

The Bodyfit range seems to be for athletic situations, but also casual-wear and sleeping-in. The knit of this range''s wool is usually flatter and less stretchy than the knit of the ranges that are for underwear or purely casual wear. Items in this range are usually cut to fit relatively snugly.

Everyday

This range is made of a looser, thicker, stretchier knit than the Bodyfit, and is more for general sleeping-in and casual long-underwear needs, not so much for athletic situations. (However, I''m sure that they would be okay in many athletic situations, and I have worn them skiing and hiking.) Everyday items tend to be made of a stretchier knit and cut to fit more loosely than the Bodyfit items. I wear a size below my ordinary size in this range.

Other ranges

Their other ranges appear to include: Black Sheep Collection, RealFleece Collection, Pure Plus Collection, Journeys Travel Collection, Premium Underwear Collection, GT Technical Sports Collection, GT Bike Collection, Technical Base Layers Collection, and Technical Mid Layers Collection. Please see the Icebreaker site for more information on their ranges.

Frankly, I feel that they''ve made this aspect of their brand over-complicated and too confusing for the average customer, and I have not been able to locate any overview of the various collections on their site or on their product packaging materials.

-----------------------

ICEBREAKER COLORS:

Icebreaker tends to make most items in black, as their basic universal color.

Many items are offered in about 2 to 8 other colors, as well. There is often some version of blue, red, grey, and green sometimes a pink, sometimes a brown or purple, etc. Often the colors are skewed towards the cool end of the spectrum (which I notice because my coloring is on the warm end of the spectrum and cool tones look awful on me).

The different weights of wool and/or different ranges (e.g., Bodyfit, Everyday, Journeys Travel Collection, etc.) will tend to have their own mini-set of color options. (For example, the current grey color in the 200 Bodyfit is a medium-grey and is called "blizzard" and the current grey color in the 260 Bodyfit is a dark-grey and called "metro", and they don''t offer those particular colors in other weights of wool or other ranges, as far as I know.)

They change their colors every year or so (I think), and some colors tend to sell out mid-way through a season and are not restocked, so if you see an item in a color that you love, or there is a matching set (of long underwear or something) and you want both pieces in the same color, you probably should get it at the time, because it''s not guaranteed that it will be available in the future.

---------------------

EXTRA DESIGN FLOURISHES:

A couple of their ranges, mainly the more athletic lines, feature "pops" of contrasting color in a certain part of the garment, such as a stripe running down the sleeves or down the sides, or a triangle of bright material at the ankle. Most internet retailers'' photographs of the garments do show these features because the areas of differing colors are pretty obvious, but it pays to read the item descriptions (and check out the manufacturer''s site for confirmation) if this kind of thing is not what you are looking for.

In a couple of their clothing ranges, mainly the underwear, 150-weight, and casual-wear lines, some of the tops and bottoms have printed patterns (like floral motifs or abstract swirls sometimes in contrasting colors) on the sleeves or in the hip-region. This *can* escape your notice when the only images of the item you have available to you are the tiny product photographs that most internet retailers provide, so do double-check the customer reviews of the item, and maybe the Icebreaker site''s own full description of the item, if you want to know for sure if the item comes with a printed pattern on a section of it.

---------------------

ICEBREAKER SIZING:

Sizing and fit are so variable from person to person and from brand to brand, but in case it may help, I''ll talk about my experiences with Icebreaker clothing.

For reference, generally I am usually a women''s size 4 or 6 in US sizing, a women''s size 8 or 10 in UK sizing, and a small when it comes to small/medium/large sizing. This goes for both tops and bottoms.

---

Sizing of Tops

Almost all of my Icebreaker tops from the last 13 years -crew tops, long-underwear tops, turtlenecks, and zip-up jackets -are women''s size small.

The only tops I have in size extra-small are from the Skin range (which they phased out in 2006, but the sizing and type of material used for the Skin range appear to be very similar to those of the current range called Everyday).

Generally, I know that an Icebreaker small top is probably going to fit me.

The main issue that I''ve had with their tops is sleeve length (too long). This is not uncommon for me, because I do have arms that are on the petite side: most suit jackets I buy have to be shortened a little in the sleeves, and I often have to turn up sweaters one turn at the cuff. And one feature of some Icebreaker tops is a thumb loop which necessitates that the sleeves are meant to be about three inches longer than the wrist I understand this, and just roll those tops up a turn or two. However, I''ve read quite a few reviewers'' comments that mention that Icebreaker sleeves tend to be long, and I do think that their sleeves are longer than normal. ["Normal" being subjective, of course! ...the only women I''ve met from New Zealand actually did happen to be tall, lithe, and willowy, so maybe that''s normal there. :-) ] Last week, I bought a 2012-made Icebreaker "Oasis" top in a size small, and while it was too tight in the chest area (which is normally NOT a problem for me with Icebreaker), the sleeves were a crazy four or five inches past my wrist, even though they didn''t have thumb holes and therefore were meant to end at the wrist. I had to return it.

---

Sizing of Leggings:

I have run into inconsistency in Icebreaker legging sizes. I have some in extra-small, some in small, and some in medium. (And in one 2012 collection, the extra-smalls are a little too big for me but there isn''t a smaller size to go to.)

I have not found Icebreaker''s official sizing chart (available on their site) to be terribly accurate for leggings.

For the leggings, it seems to me that one must experiment in each Icebreaker clothing range and wool weight to discover the best size and fit for oneself.

I will spell out below the ones that I have tried. Because the sizing of the "same" leggings sometimes has varied across the years, I will mention what year I got them.

1. BODYFIT range

1a. Bodyfit 150 leggings

2006 or 2007 Bodyfit 150 leggings

Size medium. The label says "slim fit" (possibly back then they had different "fits" within the Bodyfit range, but they don''t seem to now).

Fit me snugly, but well.

Waistband comes up to the belly button, feels secure.

2008 Bodyfit 150 leggings

Size small.

Are a bit too small for me this winter they fit me when I''m about 5-to-8 pounds less than I am at the moment.

Waistband hits 1 inch below the belly button, feels okay.

2012 Bodyfit 150 leggings

I decided not to buy new 150-weight leggings in 2012 because after a few years of heavy use, my old Bodyfit 150 leggings developed some un-mendable "runs"/"ladders". I still wear them and love them, but they are slowly self-destructing. It is comparatively easy to snag them on a rough surface or to poke a fingernail through them when pulling them on or off.

Actually, I''ve just looked on the Icebreaker site (December 2012) and they don''t list ANY Bodyfit 150 leggings. The only 150 weight leggings they list are the "Sprite" leggings from the Premium Underwear Collection. Also, I think that the "Nature" leggings (which are a discontinued style) were of 150 weight, and I have seen these still on sale on a few websites.

1b. Bodyfit 200 leggings

Current suggested retail price of around eighty (discounted price of around sixty).

2008 Bodyfit 200 leggings

Size medium.

Fit me, and there is extra room in them I probably could go up 5 to 8 pounds and they would still fit. When I purchased those mediums, I tried on the small size and found it to be way too small, especially along the tight and narrow waistband that these leggings were made with at the time. (I think it was a reaction to the consumer response to that waistband that they made the newer waistbands really wide and soft.)

Waistband comes up to the belly button, feels secure.

2012 Bodyfit 200 leggings

At first, based on the Icebreaker official size chart, I ordered a medium in these. They were too big, so I exchanged them for a size small.

The small fit relatively well snug, but acceptably so.

Waistband came up to 2 or even 3 inches below the belly button. This is a more "modern" position for a waistband, of course, compared to coming up to the true waist, but I prefer "athletic" base layers to cover my entire body neck to ankle, to enable the base layer shirts to be securely tucked inside the base layer pants, and to feel really secure when I''m moving around -but this waistband was so low on me, and so wide and stretchy that it felt like it was about to slide down to my hips at any moment because the elastic wasn''t very tight.

Not only from the practical side was this low waistband a problem, but MAN, the whole cut of the upper part of these leggings seemed to be designed to make my tummy area look as flabby and unattractive as possible! I tried my old leggings on when I took these off -just to check that it wasn''t bad lighting or post-Thanksgiving excess weight that was to blame for how these made me look, but my older Icebreaker Bodyfit 200 leggings looked a lot better on me than these leggings did.

I had to return them. I have decided to wait until next year''s production, to see if they alter the cut of the waist area.

1c. Bodyfit 260 leggings

Current suggested retail price of around ninety (discounted price around seventy-five).

2012 Bodyfit 260 leggings

Size small.

Fit relatively well snug, but acceptably so.

Waistband came up to 2 inches below the belly button. They had the same issues as the 2012 Bodyfit 200 leggings did waistband too low, too loose, too wide, and quite unattractive in the belly region!

I also had to return these. I hope next year''s will be cut higher on the waist.

2. EVERYDAY range

2a. Skin 200 leggings (discontinued 2006) the Skin range was probably similar to Everyday.

2005 Skin 200 leggings

Size extra-small, yet are the largest I own I could gain 15 pounds and they would still feel okay. But they fit me nicely when I''m at any weight 10 pounds less or more than my present size they are simply the coziest and softest that I own.

Waistband comes to about 1 inch higher than belly button, feels secure.

2b. Everyday 200 leggings

Current suggested retail price of around sixty (discounted price of around forty-five).

2012 Everyday 200 leggings

Two weeks ago, I bought them in size small which were too big, so I exchanged them for an extra-small. Even the extra-smalls had extra material in places on the legs, which is unusual because my legs are not toothpicks (this kind of legging is not supposed to be baggy, so the cut of these must have been off).

Worse, the upper part of the extra-small leggings was cut strangely the waistband was in a deep V, so that the middle was 3 inches below my belly-button (which is way too low for me), but the sides rose up 3 inches higher than that (it wasn''t a curve, it was a visible V). Yet the waistband elastic wasn''t tight enough, so the tall sides wanted to sag down and bunch up around my hips -strange. (And that was not the way the smalls I tried on the week before had fit my waist area! In fact, I think the smalls of last week fit me better generally than the extra-smalls of this week.) I don''t have the energy to go through the rigamarole of ordering a different pair of extra-smalls, but maybe I just got a bad apple.

I had to return the extra-smalls.

I was very disappointed because they were the 7th Icebreaker product I''ve tried in the last 2 weeks. This Icebreaker shopping quest has taken up a fair bit of my time lately, but I have nothing new to show for it. I''ve given up trying to get anything now and will wait a year and see how their 2013 production fits me.

3. OTHER ranges

Their other legging types are more expensive than the Everyday and Bodyfit, and seem to be geared towards high-tech athletic use, or constructed to be worn on their own as pants/trousers. Some have Lycra in them. Check out Icebreaker''s site for more info.

--------------------------------

OTHER TIPS

The other main retailers of this kind of product sometimes offer free shipping on their Amazon listings of an item but don''t offer free shipping on the exact same item when sold through their own site (even when the price of the item itself is the same on both sites), so it can save you money if you pay attention to that.

The best selection BY FAR is available from the manufacturer''s site, but the prices there are generally higher. However, they have discounts from time to time, such as their "Black Friday" sale when they offer 30% all items that are black in color.

Amazon sometimes calls the Icebreaker Bodyfit range "BF" and sometimes "Bodyfit", so if you are searching here for Icebreaker''s Bodyfit range, do a separate search under each of the two search terms to get the most accurate results.

In terms of merino wool socks, I prefer Smartwool socks over Icebreaker''s. Sierratradingpost is one retailer which often carries a large selection of them at good prices. Those socks last a really long time. I wear them almost year-round because the lightweight ones breathe really well even when it''s warm out.

The Smartwool women''s small size is the only sock I can find that truly fits my feet (which aren''t even that small, all things considered!) without bunching up inside my shoes.

If you have a smaller foot (size 7 or less) and are female, note that the Smartwool unisex socks in the small size are bigger than the smalls made just for women, even though that company''s size guide says that they both are meant to fit the same range of women''s shoe sizes.

I have had quite a few Icebreakers and will continue to buy them as they are warm and soft. Really like them. The only downside is that the color combinations are often horrible. Stylistically there is a lot of room for improvement, but the functionality is superb.

Buy Icebreaker Women''s Tech Bodyfit 260 Top Now

I''m a plump, classically hourglass-figured lady. I am just at the border between normal and overweight on the charts, so not radically large, but also not a skinny, athletic person.

I tell you this to help explain the fit of Icebreakers products. I am a petite (short) 12/14 with full bust, small waist, full hips, and I really require an XL size in this brand. The sleeves are too long, even though they are intended to reach your hands to use the fantastic thumb-hole feature to keep the wrists warm. My Icebreaker Women''s Tech Bodyfit 260 Top comes pretty low on my hips because I am short through the torso. This is fine for warmth, but not as flattering as an item of clothing could be.

My kids are willing to wear their Icebreakers over bare skin, but I always try to keep an under-layer between my skin and my wool. I am very, VERY sensitive to this sort of thing. Normal people will likely find this wool smooth enough to wear as any layer--base-, midor top-layer. A very fine silk undershirt is enough to protect me from itch, which is certainly not true of all woollens.

My top is hot pink. (It was on sale.) The fit and look is pretty sporty. When I''m cold, I really don''t care, but this isn''t my preferred style. Sometimes I even layer this top under a thicker wool sweater more to my sartorial tastes, and it works great as a thick turtleneck that way with the zipper pulled up.

If you like wool, this is worth the splurge. If you are trying wool, try to get a piece of Icebreaker or Smartwool on sale first, to see how you feel wearing it. Personally, in spite of the itchies, I''ve switched over almost all of my socks to wool and am now working on mid-layer upper clothing. It really is amazing how comfortable you can be if you can avoid the itch.

I love this top so much that I am going to buy another two. I went for a walk in the brisk morning (about 3 C) Melbourne Australia weather and was very warm. I wore mine with black tight pants, black boots, pearl ear rings and a beautiful scarf and looked rather stylish. I am stocking up on Icebreaker as i am off on the holiday to Italy in January. These can be dressed up so warm and cute..... win win for me.

Of all the different thickness of Icebreaker things, I love the 260 ones the best comparing them to the 150 and 200, it has the most consistency in the thickness of the fibres. With the 150, and even the 200, you can see the unevenness, which, I suppose, would not matter if you were always wearing it inside something else. But, it really doesn''t itch, or get smelly quickly and the fabric is really soft.

Savasa Yoga Mate

Savasa Yoga MateAfter getting frustrated at my balled-up towels and heavy washing machine loads, I opted to try Savasa''s Yoga Mate. When it arrived I was so excited, it fits over the mat perfectly, and is light enough to carry without any stress. The first use was equally happy, the towel worked very well, though I was a little taken aback by its thinness and harsher cotton weaving.

It fit into the wash machine very nicely, and was not a burden on the load as a regular towel full of sweat would have been. But the problems started after the drying, when, despite using a low-heat cycle, the Yoga Mate shrank to near 75% of its original size--no longer fitting over the mat, and certainly not allowing for the wide-leg poses of the standing Bikram session.

I think I''ll go back to towels, sure they are wasteful, but they do work. The concept here is good, but the materials just aren''t up to snuff.

Perfect Pushup Counter

Perfect Pushup CounterI am in the military so I thought the perfect counter would be great to train for our 2 minute pushup drills. This product is anything but perfect. My perfect counter turns off in the middle of the 2 minutes. Also it doesn''t count every repetiton. My chest will hit the perfect counter and it won''t count that rep for some reason. It''s easier just to count yourself or have someone else count for you.

Positives:

-----------

1.) Great construction.

2.) Sensitive to light touch.

3.) Does enforce proper motion.

Negatives:

----------

1.) They got the counting functionality *ALL WRONG* making the device near useless.

When I stumbled upon this product browsing a sports store the other day, I was amazed at it and thought it could just be my perfect pushup buddy.

Using it however immediately killed that amazement.

My problem with doing pushups is that I lose count and engaging my not so interested girlfriend to count for me just amounts to her not counting loud enough, not counting at all, or knowingly giving the wrong count just to make me do more pushups than I intended. "Perfect Pushup Counter" to the rescue. Or so I though.

Now if you consider how most people approach pushups or how most people refer to pushups, it is one of the following:

1.) Your personal trainer or your team coach tells you to do XYZ pushups.

2.) You tell yourself to do XYZ pushups repeated in XYZ number of sets.

3.) You tell your friend that you can do 100 pushups and he tells you Bruce Lee could do 1000.

I am trying to relay to you, that what is interesting in pushups (or strength training in general) is the number of repetition ("reps") or the number of "reps" and "sets" combined. The point is, when you train pushups you commit to a number of pushups and the only thing you want to make sure, is that you REACH THAT NUMBER. Hence a natural and fair expectation of the "Perfect Pushup Counter" would be to:

A.) Count reps,

B.) Count sets and (keep reps in memory)

C.) Be able to set a goal of X reps and perform a countdown and then give a signal as the goal is reached.

"Perfect Pushup Counter" does nothing of the above (see explanation). The device DOES count pushups but it does not count downwards from a given number nor does it count up to a given goal. Instead it just counts. This might have been fine had you been able to read the count as you engage in pushups, but since the device is under your chest and the display is small, there is no way to know "where you are at" or how much is left.

Instead the "Perfect Pushup Counter" uses a configurable timer and you can assess (after set completion) how many reps you did within the time-frame set. This is mostly useless. I will tell you why. Counting pushups within a specific time scope is not good from a exercise perspective as it will only amounts to poorly executed repetitions and will build less muscle compared to performing the motion in a slower and controlled fashion.

Buy Perfect Pushup Counter Now

I purchased this on sale at a major sporting goods store for a slightly lower price. Once again I bought another heart breaker. I thought I was doing the perfect push ups with correct form and doing about 30 reps (I am an old guy and that isn''t bad). When I bought the counter and used it; it enforced a stricter style (much lower for each rep) and I am suddenly down to 16 on good days. But while my pride took a hit I believe I am getting better results with the lower push up. When I get it back up to 30 and beyond then it will be justifiably impressive.

Special Note: If you want to get maximum results from the perfect pushup/counter combo move it up to the midpoint in your chest well above the abs. If you drop it further toward your mid section your pushups won''t be as deep so your count will be more impressive but your results will be less so.

Update:

I have been using the perfect push-up device religously since the first review. I can now do over fifty without pause (and I can do multiple sets of 40 50) and my arms have an inch more girth (using the push ups and combined with an old school device called the powertwister). I even bought a second one for my den so I can do a few unscheduled push up sessions. Because I have had such great results I have raised the star rating from 4 to 5. And it has consistently dropped in price, because people don''t understand that it not only counts but it enforces form discipline. Buy it, and use it. It will help you immeasuarbly.

So, one day I was on Amazon buying something different; and, I saw this thing... I said, "sure.. whatever, it''s cheap!" I got it on-time, and packaged well. When I first opened this and examined it, I quickly realized I had crumpled up some cash and thrown it in the dumpster out-back. It''s a one dollar stop watch with a very small display window, housed in a rubber/plastic form, which presses the button on the stopwatch/counter whenever you depress the grey circle of rubber/plastic. I thought, "okay whatever." I used it for one day; and yes, it counted every time my chest/sternum depressed the grey circle-thing. The second day, I broke it somehow... how I do not know. Note, I can only do 50-60 push-ups in one set -so, it''s not like I wore this thing down... Anyway, it remained broke after close examination of the parts... and, then it went to the trash bin. I wasn''t going to the trouble of mailing this thing back to Amazon, for just a few bucks worth of refund. I advise you not to buy this.

This product is excellent, brought two others as gifts.

Used it to train for my fitness test. It allowed me to train alone, concentrate on my form and not waste my energy/breath counting out loud. When test day came, my training took over, and viola! Max score.

Powerline PFID130X Flat Incline Decline Bench

Powerline PFID130X Flat Incline Decline BenchThe Good:

Price

adjustable seat position

adjustable back position

sturdy for bench presses

The Bad:

padding is thin

only for bench press and bench press varieties

too high for people under 5'' 5"

front legs get in the way and I''m over 6''1"

This is a perfect bench for anyone starting out or on a budget. My wife had problems with the bench height and the front legs get in the way. The pads are not designed to support any weight unless you are centered on the bench. I would not do step ups on this bench.

This is the second bench I have assembled in my life. Including the time it took to hunt down my socket set and a wrench, it took me a little less than an hour to assemble. I have used it for every exercise I''ve ever done with free weights and had no problems with it. The closest thing I have to a complaint is that to move it, you have to grab the frame instead of the seat like I''ve gotten used to. It fits into my smith machine perfectly and at 6'' flat I find it comfortable. It doesn''t have the most gadgets, it''s not the most amazing bench in the world either, but it''s sturdy and affordable.

Good Entry Level bench for the price. I am reasonably handy, so spent an hour assemblying it from the parts diagram. All the pieces required were included, and I had all the required tools. If you are not so handy, a step-by-step assembly procedure would be helpful. I use it for decline situps and dumbell strength training. The only improvements I would make for my use is to add additional padding.

Pros: Lets me do all the dumbbell/abdominal exercises.

Cons: The decline feature is not that great.

Overall a good product.

I love the Powerlin PFID130 X Flat Incline Decline Bench. Once assembled, it is easy to manuever and very comfortable. I love the 45 degree incline for an excellent AB workout. The product is professional and i something I would expect to see in a quality gym.

The instructions included is a one page EXPLOSION diagram. I searched on-line for step by step instructions and called the maker of the product directly. You can find the same blown up diagram on line in a PDF format, but no one has published (that I can find) step by step instructions. One of the fitness installers I spoke to said to start from the base up and I should be fine.

I had a friend who has put several of these together before and he did it for me in about 45 minutes. I paid him $30 which is a better deal than the $120 it would have cost me to have the local fitenss installer put it together.

PAIR of 10LB Solo-Flex Weight Strap Resistance Replacement Band for SOLOFLEX

PAIR of 10LB Solo-Flex Weight Strap Resistance Replacement Band for SOLOFLEXI rated this product with 3 stars "it''s okay" primarily because they fit and have about the same stiffness as Soloflex 10-lb weight straps. That''s where the similarity ends, however. They are made of a material much more similar to synthetic rubber than Soloflex weight straps. They are smaller (although the holes line up just fine) and the surface texture is similar to that of a tire, as opposed to the polished surface of the official product. The biggest concern is the strong "tire" smell that develops as the strap heats up when repeated stretched. I''ve used these only a few times and I''m hoping the smell decreases markedly after a few more uses. If not, I may toss them, more out of concern about what I might be inhaling, rather than the minor annoyance of the smell itself.

All in all, I''d rather pay a slightly higher price and get official Soloflex products.

Nike Women''s Free TR Fit 2.0

Nike Women''s Free TR Fit 2.0 - Voltage Cherry / White-Dark Grey-Pink Flash, 8.5 B USI bought these the day before we took a trip to NYC... Have extreme back pain, and chronic pain in general. I know if I could lose some weight it would help too. So back to the shoes, Amazing what a different pair of shoes will do. I''ve tried walking but I couldn''t even grocery shop without causing pain. And yet I walked almost 10 miles over a couple days, and my back didn''t hurt that bad. Except for the blisters, it was perfect. Super light, and I will definitely be taking walks in these shoes.

When I went to buy these, salesmen tried to tell me I should get other shoes for my back pain. I told him that they are too bulky and heavy. I knew myself, I''m always running in and out with 4 kids.

I always slip into my shoes fast as I head out the door. These shoes are perfect for that. they back is already squishy on purpose for that.

I''m buying a second pair. :)

I bought these shoes for my daughter to exercise in. They were shipped fast and just as advertised. She loves the style and comfort. Another quality Nike product.

SurfShelf Treadmill Desk: Laptop and iPad Holder

SurfShelf Treadmill Desk: Laptop and iPad HolderLet me start out by saying that I LOVE my Surfshelf because I HATE walking on my treadmill, but health requires that I do. I used to listen to music, but I was just BORED. Now, I watch movies and shows with the help of my Surfshelf, and the 45 minutes just whizzes by like never before. I''ve had it for about two months now, and would hate to live without it. However, I only gave it 4 stars because I feel everyone should know about the cons involved. Here they are, in my opinion:

1) The cost. It''s too pricey for what you get, but I still would buy it again. So, I guess that point is debatable. It''s basically a plastic tray with a velcro strap and a couple of nylon belts, but it does the job of holding your laptop VERY securely, which was very important to me. (**It''s April 2010 now, and I came back to edit this portion of my review because I found out that the price I originally paid for the SurfShelf has been lowered by $20. I consider that to be a fair price and good value, and I wanted my review to reflect the change. I''ve had my SS for a year now, and still love it!)

2) Set up. The original set up took about 10 minutes, and was fairly simple. However, I absolutely would NEVER recommend this to someone who wanted to take it to a gym everyday. You''d have to lug the pieces with you, and spend 10 minutes or more getting it ready to accept your laptop, and that would be way too much for me. I leave mine set up on my treadmill, and then setting my laptop up on it is a one minute process every morning. Very do-able.

3) Maybe this is just me, because I''m not as young as I used to be (I''m 55), but I cannot do ANYTHING on my treadmill but WATCH something when I''m walking on it. I can''t type, I can''t use the mouse, and I have to step on the side rails to do anything but turn the volume up or down. So, I start whatever show or movie I''m going to watch before I actually begin walking. Again, this could be an age thing, so maybe you younger folk can get your business done on your laptop while moving, but I sure couldn''t.

4) One last con for me is that I can''t see my digital read out through my laptop when it''s on the Surfshelf. I have to peer way to the side to see around it, and even then it''s tough to make out the read outs. This isn''t a big deal to me, as I set a speed and incline shortly after beginning and don''t really need to see it during my workout, but that may be a problem for some people, so it''s worth mentioning.

5) The Surfshelf comes with an In-Gym subscription, which I found to NOT be very user-friendly while walking. Again, this could be just me. Others may love that feature. It''s a website with short videos of news, entertainment, etc., that you are supposed to be able to use your arrow keys to navigate around. It didn''t work well for me, but you can check it out for yourself at in-.

The pros of the Surfshelf are its simplicity in setting it up, the ability (for me) to just leave it up because it''s in my home, and the best pro of all, my workouts are no longer boring. Again, the end of the boring workout makes it, for me, worth all the cons I mentioned above.

The Surfshelf is well worth the price if you have access to your own treadmill, and the ability to watch lots of movies or TV shows on your laptop (I use the $8.99 a month Netflix plan and a Roku box ($99), which gives me full access to all of Netflix "Watch Instantly" movies and shows, and Amazon instant purchases. I also occasionally use iTunes purchases and regular DVD''s). I still spend far less than a gym membership would cost.

All in all, I highly recommend the Surfshelf.

I''ve read about some fitness gurus stating that "exercise should be pure and zenlike, not marred by distractions." Let me tell you, walking on a treadmill for a long period of time is boring and far from zen-like. I know that I love to use my laptop because, like the inventor, our tech jobs have invaded our home space. The pay is great but you can''t sit at your desk (at home and work) for 12 hours a day and expect to stay in shape. This device allows you to have both. I''m not in the best shape (which is why this is a Christmas present) and I can go up to level 2 while fully using the laptop, and up to normal running speed when watching videos.

I''ve been in gyms off and on for the past 15 years of my life. It gets REALLY boring and there aren''t enough mp3''s out there to provide variety. I''ve changed my workout, changed my song list, watched the gym televisions with headline news, read articles in magazines I would normally not pick up, and spent the entire workout flipping pages on a book or holding it open to actually read the book. Magazines are boring and books usually don''t work very well on the treadmill (and I''ve never mastered the small text/high movement aspect of running-reading).

When I am using the SurfShelf, I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I AM EXERCISING. I feel like I am having fun! I have a skinny little toddler and he does not have an exercise routine, he moves because it is fun to move and he stays naturally skinny. Why do we as adults have to make working out so painful and boring when we can get a low-impact workout surfing the web for an hour and have a great time with it? Think of all the teens who use instant messenger! OMG! Why not use instant messenger while walking? I''m sure we could get a few World of Warcraft guys out there to get into it!

And what about when my boss tells me that I need to log on from home for an entire evening after sitting at my desk for 8 hours? This is a reality for a LOT of people in my line of work where the line blurs between private time and office time. Many of us have home offices or bring our laptops (money makers) to the couch to continue working in the evening. Why not work on it while walking very slowly? I mean 1.0 is very slow on the treadmill, I''ve seen supermarket conveyor belts with more speed. At 1.0 you could get in a few miles over the course of several hours. I worked on a project where THREE of our engineers had heart attacks within a six month period. I have a very clear vision as to where this lifestyle leads and if I do not start taking care of my health, I will be that person being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

This provides an alternative to folks who are on the internet for necessity or for entertainment.

You don''t have to give up your productivity or enjoyment to get a little movement in your life...you can have both!

I have a Precor EFX 5.19 elliptical. We had some troubles installing the SurfShelf at first because the directions that come with the product are different than the ones on the product''s website -follow the directions on the website (www.surfshelf.com) they''re the correct ones. --this is the only reason for the 4/5 stars.

Once the product is installed -and I highly recommend contacting the company if you are having troubles since they are prompt and helpful -it does exactly what it says it will do.

I really, really like the product for lite surfing and watching DVDs. I''m liberated from having to watch the same shows as my 2.5 yo daughter during my workouts. Typing is a little klutzy (it can be done, but it''s awkward). But too much typing cuts into how hard I''m paying attention to my workout anyways, so I don''t mind.

This is a simple product that hooks your laptop to your cardio equipment. It works. If you want to make a lifestyle change -to fit in more exercise without sacrificing your computer-based hobbies -this is an excellent product to try.

The SurfShelf fits my NordicTrack Commercial 1500 as though it were made especially for it -and it does look versatile enough that I believe it would fit on a wide variety of other machines. It is easy and quick to install. It has ample strength. It holds the laptop secure and steady. After over 100 miles of use, it has not scratched my treadmill''s display, I have never worried about my laptop''s safety, and the SurfShelf shows no signs of wear.

Functionally, the SurfShelf has done all it promised. I have been able to write long lengths of text (tens of thousands of words) while walking at about 2.5 miles per hour. If I wanted, I feel like I could use the laptop for most other things (like games, videos, e-mail, reading blogs) without being limited at this speed. The laptop has been secure at higher speeds; I just can''t type if I walk any faster.

I got used to typing while walking after a few miles. Now I simply forget I''m walking within the first few minutes of my exercise. I often cover 2-4 miles without thinking about it.

Three small negatives:

(1) I have doubts if it is a good product for use at a gym: Most gyms limit the amount of time you can spend on cardio equipment. If you can''t spend much time on the equipment, what would be the point of having this?

(2) The shelf does block the digital display on my treadmill -plus the built-in fan. Whatever kind of equipment you have, it is going to block something. I consider it a small sacrifice for the huge benefits.

(3) It''s weird to jog with the shelf in place. Even though it doesn''t actually stick out that far, when I''m moving fast, somehow it feels like it juts into my personal space. This isn''t too a big deal, though. It takes me about 30 seconds to get the shelf off of my treadmill when I want to run.

The SurfShelf is one of the most simple, useful things I have bought this year. For the materials that went into it, I think it''s priced a bit high -but for its usefulness, I got my money''s worth in the first month.

The Surf Shelf it is a exercise equipment attachment that allows the user to safely use their laptop while working out. It is very versatile because it can be attached to a treadmill, a stationary bike, a stairmaster, or a elliptical machine. I purchased specifically for my treadmill.

Basically, it''s a plastic shelf made of a sturdy 100% polycarbonate, "the same stuff used to make bullet-proof glass", designed to hold up to 15 pounds. It comes in two pieces with three straps (two 6" and one 5" with Velcro) and a bevy of instructions to help you attach it to your machine. One to two straps are used to attach it to the machine while the Velcro is used to secure the laptop in place on the shelf.

Other features:

* Air vents to keep laptop cool

* See through panels to see console

* Adjustable angle

* Easy to remove and carry

It took longer to set up than I expected (about 20 plus minutes) but I have no doubt I could move it to another with no problem.

The Surf Shelf is designed to fit most machines "past and present" and while it does fit my machine, which is about eight years old, the essential controls are blocked. The instructions offered a work-around for this but my machine has an awkward console design. But I managed to develop my own work-around that I don''t find overly inconvenient compared to the benefit of having this attachment.

It was surprisingly easy to walk and Twitter or check email or read an email book or watch a movie. Doing tasks is definitely easier during the warm up phase but I had no problem doing tasks like typing short messages and reading while moving a bit faster. I was expecting the shelf to bounce around a little but it hardly moved at all. Surf Shelf is also partnered with In-Gym.com to provide free video entertainment and news while working out.

Service wise I was totally impressed at how quickly my Surf Shelf was delivered and they were really quick to respond to questions via email or phone. I absolutely love my Surf Shelf and plan to get in many more hours of surfing and walking. Reviewed by M. E. Wood.

KettleWorx Ultra 10 - Kettlebell Fitness KIT

KettleWorx Ultra 10 - Kettlebell Fitness KIT ... Includes 10lb KettlebellMy feelings are very mixed about this product. The editing is absolutely TERRIBLE and his form isn''t great. I have to keep my own count of reps because they are very inconsistent. Although it is a six week program, it does not appear to be increasing in intensity; each week contains a slightly different remix of the same exercises. On the other hand...I am finishing up my sixth week and I still look forward to my sessions. So the fact that I am sticking with it speaks favorably about it.

I have started the KW program over a year ago with my friend who already owned the videos. We took the videos to the gym where we had access to more bells.

I saw results in just a few short weeks. I lost 25 pounds and a lot of inches.

This program is what you make of it. The video isn''t super great, but, you once you learn the routine of each disc you can generally add in a few extra reps for the ones that aren''t counted.

I bought this for my home so that I could start working out again. I was so excited to start up again. I know that this program works, which is why I did make the purchase.

This must be doing something. I''m pretty active but these short workouts are really making my muscles sore. I think the idea of calisthenics with resistance is a very good one.

But I agree about the editing. These vids are cheesy, with poor transitions, and uneven rep counts (he might have you do 3 reps on one side and 5 on the other). If he has you repeat an exercise in a new set, they just copy and paste the video from before. Mari and ShawnT take pains to make a connection with the audience and a flow through the workout. Not so much here.

Edit (August 2012): My wife and I are still using these videos. We have each progressed through 3 higher bell sizes. It''s a very effective workout in a short time. The workaround for the uneven rep counts is to alternate sides. What I mean by this is, in set 1, you do what Ryan says (for example, start the one-armed press on the RH side). In set 2, switch it up. (Start on the LH side). Also, despite what Ryan says about back pain, some of these DO hurt my 50-year-old back. I just don''t do those, and do something else instead.

Exervo HD20 3/4" Thick Premium EVA Foam Interlocking Floor Mats

Exervo HD20 Premium EVA Foam 3/4'' Thick Interlocking Floor Mats, Black, 24 sq. ft. setI bought these mats to help give my legs / joints a break from doing P90X and Insanity workouts on my basement concrete floor. These mats are nearly perfect for such a purpose, but they do have a couple short comings.

First, I stopped wearing shoes during my workouts. Shoes just slide way too much on the surface of these mats and if you''re doing any intense stretching or yoga type positions your feet will slowly slide right out from under you. Even just holding a plank or pushup position your toes will start slipping with shoes. I now workout barefoot and it''s not an issue. General lifting and walking on the mats would be fine with shoes however.

Secondly, I bought a 10x10 area and when doing some cardio moves the entire mat will slip on the concrete. This isn''t really a big deal as I plan on just putting down some double sided carpet tape to hold it in place, but you should be aware you will likely need to do this if you plan on putting them on concrete or other "slick" surface.

Lastly, I wouldn''t buy these if you are wanting to put heavy gym equipment or weights on them. These aren''t really high density foam or rubber and have a lot of cushion, a lot of weight or equipment on them for a prolonged time would set into the foam. I just use these for mostly cardio based workouts like "Insanity." I couldn''t imagine a better mat for the hopping and jumping type workouts that I''ve been doing, these mats have a lot of cushion when you come down hard.

I bought these primarily for workouts. Thickness provides plenty of cushion for various exercises and stretching. However, as other reviewer mentioned, these tend to move around a lot. I use these on a laminate floor and they shift when I do lunges, etc. If you are doing something more vigorous, this could be dangerous. I also noticed that the floors where the mat was placed have become very slippery, too! It''s like the mats are exuding some sort of lubricating substance. Tried mopping the floors and washing mats with soapy water, but I''m still having this problem. Contacted customer service, but they weren''t much help. They suggested I use one of those rubber mats that you put under rugs to keep them in place. This would be a much better product if it had at least one side with a little grip. If you are planning on using these on smooth surface flooring, anticipate having to devise some method of holding them in place.

I purchased the Exervo Premium EVA 3/4" foam mat to use while doing plyometrics for the P90X home fitness regimen. After having used it, I have to say I am very pleased with my purchase. The 3/4" thickness measures exactly 3/4". While that might sound obvious, it''s easy to buy this kind of mat and then have it not be as thick as it is listed. The Exervo mat actually feels thicker than it is.

Jumping, laying, and moving as hard as I can on it, the mat never moves on a carpeted floor and the connecting edges don''t budge a bit. I haven''t had to clean the mat yet, but the surface is such that I would imagine it would be very easy to wipe down. If you need a large mat for working out that provides cushion for your knees, this is the mat for you.

We bought these mats for our workout room. They do what we thought they would and are high quality and easy to install. My only complaint is that they slide around on the floor when you jump on them. We tried using rug nonslip strips under them, but they stuck only to the floor and not a bit to the mats. Our solution is to buy more of them and wedge them into the space so they can''t move.

My wife and I have been working out on carpet in our lower level Rec Room and needed a firm, forgiving surface that was large enough for some ballistic cardio and weight training exercises but easy to clean. We already had one 4 x 6 unit and added a second. They have proven to work quite well. Since the mats are interlocking, they break down easily for storage and set back up quickly. Solid mats of a similar size would be twice as expensive, heavier and harder to handle and impossible to store. We have been pleased.

Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with Handles

Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with HandlesI have the Stott chair and the Stott SPX reformer, and I adore both of them. The chair was my first purchase, because it was less expensive and required less room. When I want a hardcore Pilates workout, I choose the chair. Because there is less room for support (the seat versus the bed of the reformer), the chair requires more core strength for correct execution of the practice. Even the footwork is harder on the chair! I would not get a chair without having had formal Pilates apparatus training. If you have had reformer or chair lessons, though, this is a great piece of home equipment.

After breaking the Malibu Pilates chair spring, I decided to upgrade to a real Pilates Chair. And the Stott Pilates is that and more. It''s solid. You have to assemble it, but with patience you can assemble it perfectly in about an hour. There are four big springs (one heavy and one light for each foot platform. The vinyl padding is quite comfortable and thick. The large rectangular shaped pads for the foot pedals are excellent. This is an excellent piece of commercial quality gym equipment that will provide excellent muscular and aerobic conditioning. It comes with the Essential and Intermediate video that is good! I would have given it five stars, but it''s not simple to change from split pedals to one pedal easily. But I think that it''s probably better to keep the pedals split as then you can learn to balance out your muscles better since you would have to move the pedals at the same rate. I think the tension with the springs is very good and the movement is silent and smooth. Overall, this is an excellent, versatile, piece of gym equipment where you can do a variety of exercises to strengthen your entire body. And the product will last a long time! You get what you pay for! However, the Malibu Pilates to start out can be a very good program, too.

Buy Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with Handles Now

The finest design and construction. Highest quality materials. Built to last. Amazingly versatile. As others mention, it is more challenging for some exercises than the reformer, but it is great for those wanting sitting or standing up exercises. Fits in a small space.

While Stott offers many excellent video & written materials to support the stability chair, I highly recommend a teacher -at least at first, and then an occasional checkup.

It''s not about getting old! Keep moving with functional exercises. It is therapy. Or, if you''re an athlete, add this to your training and take your performance to a higher level.

The Split-Pedal Chair is a fabulous piece of equipment! It gives an excellent workout and there are so many exercises that can be done on the Chair. Lots of options; standing, sitting, side-lying, kneeling, locked pedal, split pedal, etc. I love the intensity of my workouts on the Chair!! It''s also compact and easy to move. Try the STOTT PILATES dvd''s as well for the Chair, they will give you a great workout and assist in proper form.

Clients come in excitedly asking for "...the exercise on that chair that makes me sweat!" That could be a good many, but I know their favorites! The beauty of this product is it''s unassuming compact size with substantial build. This piece is the perfect way to challenge an athlete who wants to climb hills or ski them faster; amazing for training proper knee & hip tracking and ankle strengthening; excellent for exercises where the client can support their own body weight for strength & endurance (think gymnastics!). Splitting the pedal allows for "unilateral," work or where imbalances in sides are discovered. Splitting the pedal gives the client and instructor so many options, including ABDOMINAL work! Side plane (laying on your side or working limbs out to side) are extremely beneficial and abundant on this piece. The ability to quickly adjust spring tension and handle height (or removal) gives versatility to instructors and clients alike. An indispensable part of any studio, in a home or professional setting.

Weider MMA VKR Power Tower Home Gym

Weider MMA VKR Power Tower Home GymI purchased this item to add to my weight room. It makes a really nice addition and it is very functional. I wasn''t really sure what to expect (from looking at the online pics), but this item is very sturdy and easy to use. It took awhile to put it together by myself, but the instructions are easy enough to follow. I was very surprised at how well the item was packaged. Everything was individually wrapped and neatly packaged. Very pleased with this purchase!

The product didn''t look like the product I ordered, but that is besides the point. The assembly for this thing (specifically the pull-up bar) is atrocious. I am going to admit right now that I have very little patience for machines that don''t snap together correctly. Especially machines that are made of some bullet proof type alloy that can get a bit heavy after turning, and shifting, and pushing and pulling metal tubes in every direction possible. Don''t get me wrong, I went at this thing for hours and the holes for the screws just wouldn''t align well enough to assemble the friggin thing. I got so upset that after a while I disassembled it and threw the entire machine in the garbage, complete with punching bag. NO MORE WEIDER PRODUCTS IN MY HOUSE. I ordered the Stamina 1700. Awesome machine. It''s sturdy, light enough to be moved without much effort, but strong enough not to wobble when I put my weight on it (200 pounds). This is not a review to warn you not to buy the weider tower. For all I know the thing is magnificent when complete. However, this is a review to warn you that the assembly will require an extra person or two, and if you don''t have the patience don''t set yourself up for failure.

Breathe Pilates Jumpboard Workout

Breathe Pilates Jumpboard WorkoutOn the cover of the DVD, it reads "JUMP!". But this DVD is more than just jumping, it contains two 55-minute workouts, focusing on the lower body and abdominals. The first workout adds a little arms work and the the second one adds a little upper body work.

I enjoyed both workouts and they may be considered intermediate workouts with the option to make it more (or less) intense. This DVD is excellent for adding variety to your reformer workouts.

A long box is used on the second workout. A Magic Circle is used for a more advanced workout and for stretches. A small ball may be used for the advanced version in the second workout and a Theraband is optional for stretching.

If you don''t have the above equipment, it''s no problem, for one may do most of both workouts with just the reformer and the jumpboard. In addition, you don''t have to jump; just follow the foot work, instead of jumping. This is what I did occasionally. You may also do whatever segment you choose.

Casio Midsize W212H-1AV Digital Sport Watch

Casio Midsize W212H-1AV Digital Sport WatchI purchased this for my husband to wear at work in 2009. He has the kind of job where he has to be mindful of the time more so than most jobs. He likes it because it looks a little more stylish that your average black sports watch, but it''s still very casual. He can wear it on hikes and outdoor activites as well. He hasn''t said a negative comment about the functions on the watch. It works great and it''s easy to use. I would definitely recommend it.

With this watch, looks can be deceiving. It has a very small design, but lots of features in its small casing.

This watch is way better than the Timex Expedition I had before. The one I am wearing is over 2 years old & still going strong on the original battery which is great because I use the stop watch all the time. The face was getting pretty beat up so I thought I''d better get 2 more in case they stop making them. For the money, you just can''t beat this watch!

I love this watch. Over the last year, I bought three other watches, trying to find the right size, one that had the right bells and whistles. This comes closer than any of the others. And it is very attractive!

Barry''s Bootcamp Complete Workout System

Barry''s Bootcamp Complete Workout SystemFor reference I am low advanced, used the black power bands, and followed the advanced modifier when I could. I absolutely LOVE this set. It is challenging and fun w/ NO dread factor. I have lost 4 lbs in 4 weeks with it and just started my 5th week.

Cindy Whitmarsh actually leads the workouts. I think she is a good lead-not too overzealous, not too serious. Barry walks around and says things like "great abs arent made in the gym, theyre made in the kitchen so be sure to eat right too" and pushes down on exercisers shoulders for added resistance. He is quirky and I liked him too. They show a beginner and an advanced modifier with Cindy doing intermediate. There is a countdown banner on the bottom of the screen that counts down each minute. I find it less intrusive than the banner on the SS w/o''s. A buzzer goes off at the 10 seconds remaining mark and Cindy, Barry & crew countdown. The music is good IMO, upbeat, not annoying or too loud.

The kit comes with 3 dvds. There is a lower body dvd, upper body dvd, and a code red (get fit quick in 6 days) dvd. The upper and lower body dvds each have a 21 minute w/o and 6 additional Mission Specialist w/o''s on them. The MS w/o''s are 12 min each and are: upper body-beginner, lowerbody-beginner, abs-beginner, upper body-advanced, lower body-advanced, and abs-advanced. The kit also comes w/ resistance cord handles and 2 strengths of interchangable resistance bands. The green band is level 1 (beginner strength) and the black is level 3 of 4. It also comes w/ a torpedo shaped ball, the Transformer. The transformer ball is used as a weight bench, stability ball, and a prop for cardio & strength moves. The resistance bands can go around the ball while you are laying on it-so you can do bench press for example.

Lower Body Fat Blaster: it is 21 minutes plus a short warmup. The moves are bootcamp type moves and each exercise lasts for only one minute, alternating between strength and cardio moves. The moves included crabwalks w/ the band, mountain climbers, squats & lunges w/ and w/out the band, one legged hops, etc. It was tough! Because each exercise only lasts 1 minute it is very doable-but still tough. In between exercises you have 30 seconds to "rest" which is used to put down your band, get your ball, etc and introduce the next move. I kept my feet moving during the 30 seconds. My HR really stayed up the entire workout.

Upper Body Fat Blaster: The workout is 21 minutes plus a short warmup. There is a beginner and advanced modifier throughout. Each exercise is one minute with a 30 second "rest" inbetween that is used to set up the next move and get your ball or cord ready. She alternates strength and cardio moves. Some of the exercises include pec flys on the transformer ball using the cords, blow-outs (including a hop at the end-TOUGH!), fast run then down to a Mt. Climber on Barry''s cue, upper cuts using the cords, jumping jacks pushing the transformer ball back and forth, tricep dips off the ball (TOUGH), etc. My only complaint is that the bands seemed too long when wrapped around the ball-too much slack to make the moves challenging. I ended up switching to dumbbells for those moves. You can use 2 bands in the handles at once, which would make it tougher but that seemed like a lot of extra work.

Mission Specialist Lower Body (Beginner): 1 minute segments, each one focused on the lower body. The exercises had a cardio effect but

were all toning exercises. It uses the bands and the ball. Some of the moves were done on the floor and some standing. The exercises were different than in the main lower body w/o. Both a beginner and an advanced option wereshown.

Mission Specialist Upper Body (Beginner): All strength moves in one minute increments. There are 8 exercises, most using the ball and/or the tubing. The moves were different than in the main UB w/o and included push-ups off the ball, tricep extensions w/ the cord, bicep curls w/ the cord, etc.

Mission Specialist Abs (Beginner): Ab work done in 1 minute increments. Used the ball and the bands in some of the exercises. Most were done on the floor or ball. Both a beginner and an advanced option were shown.

Mission Specialist Abs (Advanced): Ab work done in 1 minute increments. This was mostly floor work on and off the ball, included Russion twists, jack knives on the ball, bicycle abs w/ the ball, V-sits w/ the ball, etc.

I hate going to the gym, and working out. I could never get motivated on my own so I didn''t do it anymore. I saw Barry''s Bootcamp infomercial and bought the DVD system with low expectations. (I''ve bought other at home workouts and couldn''t get into them, but this looked...fun?) Barry''s kinda goofball/meets the Energizer Bunny, but within minutes of my 1st workout I was sweating like a pig, and my arms were sore the next day. I like the intense 1 minute exercises, the workout calendar that tells me what to do each day, the fact that I was able to start off gradually and add more each week. It''s my 4th week and I''ve added another rubber band to the handles. Love that!

I like the Barry''s Bootcamp website where you can figure out a food plan, ask Barry questions (and he answers), and get support from other peeps on the Bootcamp community board.

But here''s the real reason I like this program: My pants are falling down `cause I lost 2" off my waist! I''m 40 and I have my 30 year old energy levels back. I''m not stopping `til I get abs! And they''re coming!

People are complaining that the Transformer is smaller than on the DVD. I inflated mine, gave it a day to relax/stretch, and then blew it up a lot bigger. It''s easy with the foot pump provided.

I bought this system because it was a 20 minute workout, and that is about the amount of time I can commit to regularly for an excercise plan. No doubt about it , it is a work out! You really work up a sweat in a short period of time, which was great. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of jumping that I found to be tough on my knees and joints. Amazon was great about returning it, no problem, no hassle.

I had been eating healthy and working out hard, six days a week, at the gym when I saw Barry''s Bootcamp on TV. I had lost weight and gained muscle but hit a plateau that had lasted three weeks. I needed to lose just under 20 more pounds and I was stuck and unhappy. I ordered BBC right away. In a nut shell these workouts will melt fat and sculpt your body and you should see results after the first week! After 30 days you''ll be thrilled. All you have to do is follow the plan. Do the workouts and eat right. No going hungry, you''ll eat small meals about every three hours. Barry''s booklet that comes with BBC will help you, telling you what types of food to eat and when to eat it. The workouts are great, you''ll sweat, you should be sore at first (it''s a good sore) but it''s fun and when you see results it makes you want to do it more! After just a few DAYS I couldn''t fit into my shorts any more! Inches and pounds were melting away and I saw muscles I didn''t know I had! They gym didn''t do anything for my abs. I have had seven kids (3 + 2 sets of twins) and I had a lot of belly to lose. Belly is gone and the muscles look great! My "saddle bags" are gone from my thighs too. For the first time since I was a kid, I have a butt with a normal (sexy) shape/size! I am in better shape than before I had my kids. Barry''s Bootcamp really sculpts your body. And girls, your muscles will not be bulky! At the gym my arms, butt and legs were bulky. I didn''t like that. There is also a great website with lots of great support! Oh, by the way, the transformer ball is huge. You just have to keep pumping it up. I reached my goal fast, I lost more weight/inches than I thought I could, and I still do Barry''s Bootcamp five nights a week. I love it and will do it forever! There are other DVD''s you can order in the future, after your 30 days, so you can mix it up. They are all amazing!

I bought Barry''s BootCamp for about $50 at Sports Authority. I have been doing it for just over 2 weeks and have already lost 7 lbs with minimal change to a relatively healthy diet.

I knew Barry''s BootCamp would work, because about a year ago, I bought BeachBody''s P90 workout system and lost 25 lbs doing that and playing ice hockey. Unfortunately, I broke my kneecap playing ice hockey and gained the weight back and wasn''t able to excercise for a year.

So why not just do P90 again? Even though its effective, it''s boring. You do the same move for 2 3 minutes, then another move... Then repeat the same two moves. It''s a snoze.

With Barry''s Boot Camp, the moves last for a minute... That''s it... No repeat... No boredom.

The other thing that''s pretty impressive about Barry''s BootCamp is for $50 or $60 you get everything you need to do the program:

1. 2 workout DVDs... With one main workout... And then a beginner and advanced workout for ab, upper body and lower body

2. 2 exercise bands and a great set of adjustable handles...

3. An extra "Code Red" DVD workout which is suppose to supercharge your weight loss which I have not even bothered opening yet.

4. The transformer it looks dumb and goofy, like an oversized pill, but it works WONDERFULLY! (More on it later)

So you get a lot for your money, and don''t have to buy anything else for your workout... Unlike the BeachBody stuff, where you need dumbells, or bands (which were not included when I bought it)

The Transformer you can use it in a million different ways. It''s more practical and useful then a regular swiss ball... Everything you do on that thing becomes a ab/ core exercise.

And about Barry yes the personality of the people on the tape matters... Tony Horton was cool... Barry and Cindy are better. They are not obnoxious, they are not super-charged or annoying. I like them better than the BeachBody stuff... Tony Horton would talk to himself... Kinda boring. Cindy and Barry kind goof around. I mean it''s not Comedy Central funny, but it keeps you engaged.

Another plus... All the workouts are completely scalable. So in other words, after you get good at doing the 21 minute workout... You can make it more challenging by using a different band, strething the band more etc... Instead of say... Shelling out another $100 for P90X, lol ;-)

I really thought the claims on their website were overblown... It seemed like their people were losing a LOT of weight really quickly... Too quick. I should be 10 pounds lighter by the end of 3 weeks... Thanks for a great product.

One complaint Truth in advertising When I saw the infomercial, the workouts were supposed to be 21 minutes... The main workout is 21 minutes... However, after week 1 you are expected to start doing one of the additional workouts (abs, upper or lower body), then 2 in week 2 and all three in week three)... You WILL lose weight if you do just the 21 minute workout... But you will lose it slower, obviously.

So yes, Barry''s BootCamp gets 5 stars.
