Ordered this item as a replacement for a succession of headphones that suffered water damage while jogging. I figured that because it was waterproof (and even machine washable as the advertisement stated), it would handle some sweat from working out. Wrong! Went jogging a grand total of twice with these earphones and the ControlTalk piece is now damaged and controls my iPod remotely by starting the iPod, pausing the music randomly and putting my iPod into Voice Control mode every 30 seconds. The volume controls don''t even work.

I''m returning this for a refund. Thankfully, the good people at Amazon are making it easy for me to do so. Five stars for Amazon.com customer service, negative stars for the product.

Unfortunately I had to ding a star on these. While the sound quality is awesome and the fit works well in the gym, my control talk started flaking out on me after a particuarly hard run on the treadmill. First the volume up button stopped working. Then both volume up and down. Then they would cause my iPod to randomly jump to the next track or fast forward. I called Monster to get a warranty replacement. I have to say I was not overly impressed with their customer service. They won''t send out my replacement until they receive the defective pair and evaluate them. I was supposed to pay for shipping the defective unit too, but they sent me a fed-ex label after complaining about that. They only had blue in stock to replace them. I asked about the prevelence of the problem, to which he responded that "there is a new version out". These are on a closeout sale now, so I think they''ve redesigned them, hopefully have fixed the problem, and moved on. I wonder if I will get the next gen of these when my replacement pair fails in 4 months or so? I can''t believe that they claim you can put them in the washer machine yet they can''t withstand some sweat in the gym.

So no apology from Monster, no quick replacement (2 weeks is what I was told), no assurance it won''t happen again. Can''t imagine that attitude will do well for their brand! I paid a premium price for these, I would have expected premium customer service when things went wrong. At least Amazon turned around my initial return quickly when my very first pair wouldn''t seat right in my left ear because the pivot of the earbud was too stiff.

With the new pair, I will be more careful about getting sweat on the control talk piece.

I''m a music junkie who hasn''t been in the gym for ~10 years. When I recently started a gym routine again, I decided to look into the options for using my iPod nano in the gym. I didn''t want to risk ruining my good Shure earphones with sweat and I wanted better sound quality than from a cheap pair of earbuds. I found these and was intrigued. I sweat a LOT and wanted to get earbud style earphones that could withstand the sweat. Supposedly you can even put these guys in the washer machine!

First, the sound quality...WOW! I was impressed right off the bat with the strong bass without any comprimise in the midrange and highs. I''m not a basshead, but for the gym, a little extra bass is welcomed! I get the sound quality of my Grado, Sony, and Shure headphones in a package suitable for the gym. YES!!

Second fit and design. It took a little practice to get these in right. The instructions were helpful the key is to hold down the flap that secures the ''bud in your ear and insert the ''bud in your ear so you get a good seal. Once you have a good seal, let go of the flap and it will lock into place. The sound nozzles pivot within the ''bud body which is a clever little design element that lets them seal and lock in comfortably. I tried these out in my house for a few hours and found that the flap started to hurt my ears after a couple of hours. I swapped out the ones that were on in the package (medium) with the ones labeled small and that took care of it.

The only hiccup I had was the nozzle in the right ''bud in my first pair was stiff and wouldn''t move around freely. Because of this, it was really hard to insert properly. Amazon quickly sent me out a replacement pair which are perfectly fine.

Third usability. They are very comfortable and light. The flat cable is pretty much tangle free. The buttons are great for pausing the music and changing tracks. The isolation is good, but not to the point of feeling completely isolated. If I pause the music, I can have a conversation with somebody. This is convenient so I don''t have to pop a ''bud out to say "can I rotate in?". However, when the music is playing, I''m in my own little world of musical bliss. The cable is just the right length for me to use with the belt clip I use. If I were using an armband, I''d be concerned about taking up the extra slack, but I imagine you have that issue with any pair of ''phones. I only wish the switch wasn''t as bulky as it is, but you can''t have everything. It''s till lightweight and hasn''t presented a problem for me.

At $99, these are a great deal. These have made my workout routine much more enjoyable. I highly recommend these.

Received the product in brand new condition. It has a large amount of bass and i mean really large, but as it has been mentioned in many reviews that fitting these perfectly in your ears takes a little practice. These are noise cancelling earphones, you have to place it deep inside your ear canal to hear its real power. And also you don''t hear anything from outside and your music stays very sharp and clear. But the problem comes when u use it for what its made, ie while working out. You can hear yourself breathing hard, loud and clear, because you ear canals are now stuffed. This can get irritating as your breathing will overcome the sound of the music itself and totally piss you off. Also during rigorous workouts such as sprinting and other cardio stuff that requires quick movements, these earphones tend to slip of a bit from the ear canal where u had originally placed them. Once they move even slightly, all the bass disappears in an instant and these sound like some real stock headphones like the one apple gives with ipod etc. You have to push back the earphones into your ear canal to get back that monster sound. So these are not fit for workouts in my opinion and also now that i have purchased them i think i will use them in situations where i want to have noise cancelling such as in a flight. Thats the only best use i can put it to and it will do a good job.

Recently, my favorite in-ear headphones needed replacing-Klipsch''s s4i in-ear headphones. When I originally bought the Klipsch''s, they were to replace my first pair of "expensive" earphones-Apple''s premium in-ear headphones. Those two models, as well as my trusty pair of Bose Triport over-the-ear headphones (purchased in 2005), were used for comparison. Another thing that should be known, is that I read reviews for hours before making many purchases, and I also have fairly attuned hearing. I''m no audiophile; I don''t know how the propagation of low frequency sound waves affects the clarity of the mids and highs, but I can hear subtle nuances in music, and even the smallest amount of static in headphones, be it over-the-ear or in-ear, will most likely be noticed by my ears.

The short version: In general, after two days of listening to an eclectic range of songs, I am quite impressed with the Monster Immersion In-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk. Monster''s in-ear headphones bested the previous pairs I had before-Klipsch''s s4i, and Apple''s premium in-ear headphones. Apple''s earphones bested the Monsters with great mids and highs, but fell flat in bass response. Klipsch''s mids and highs sounded comparibly similar to Monsters, if not slightly clearer, but Monsters bass was even better than Klipsch''s-a very welcome surprise to me. Compared to the Bose''s Triport headphones, the mids and highs of the Monsters were less pronouced while the bass sounded slightly warmer. In general, while mids and highs were slightly muted with the Monster iSport earphones, the warm punchy bass (an absolute must for me) was more than adequate to elevate them as my new favorite headphones. While I will probably use Bose''s Triports where a more accurate listening experience is necessary, such as Mozart''s Symphony Number 7 in A Major, the portability of in-ear headphones is what drives my listening experience 90% of the time. And while Sym. No. 7 is a wonder to hear, much of my everyday music is provided by bands like 311, Blink 182, 50 Cent, Fabolous, and Chevelle. Listening to that music requires noticeable bass and clear highs and mids, which the Moster iSport Immersion In-Ear Headphones has in spades.

Do not waste your $ on this product. I read the reviews about others who had difficulty getting a good fit but thought, hey, how hard can it be? I was surprised to find just how difficult it was, and how uncomfortable the plastic is!. The directions are horrible and after several failed attempts to get a fit that actually allowed the phones to stay in my ear, I decided to call support figuring they probably get a lot of these calls and could help. Boy, was I wrong! After explaining the issue, the customer service rep asked if I had looked on line as there were probably (?) directions on the site. She then said, "I won''t be able to tell you any more than what''s there". When I then asked, "So, you''re not going to even make an attempt to help me?", she hung up. How''s that for great customer support. Sorry, Dre, I won''t buying any more Monster products.
