Fat Gripz

Fat GripzI was considering buying a fat bar, but after coming across so many good reviews (and video reviews if you look for them) I decided to give Fat Gripz a try. I haven''t used a fat bar before, but I can imagine these are similar enough that you can use them for most of the same lifts. I''m not sure I''d try any olympic lift variations using them. (This concern may just be because my grip strength isn''t "quite there" yet.) I have used them for straight leg dead lifts and they stay on pretty comfortably. Additionally, I think they have an advantage vs a fat bar because you can apply them to ANY bar or dumbbell. Fat bars are pretty standard, not lots of variation. These can be slapped onto bars, dumbbells, cable attachments, pull up bars, special bars, etc.

A couple things I was concerned about that I learned after ordering:

-They are VERY heavy duty rubber. I used them on a brand new texas power bar (DEEP knurling) and it did nothing to damage the rubber.

-They attach and detach simply, you need two hands to pull it open and it just clamps on the bar

-They retain their shape very well after removing from the bar (not stretched out)

-Each fat Grip itself is pretty heavy (not so heavy that I would say "I benched 302 pounds counting the fat gripz" but heavier than I expected,) which is good in my opinion.

The only thing I''m not crazy about is that when they are placed on an olympic bar there is ~1 cm gap on the opening side. I''m not sure how/if fat Gripz could fix that, and it really isn''t a huge problem. It just takes a little getting used to. I found the positioning of that gap is important and different for a push vs a pull. This is part of the reason I don''t think I''d olympic lift in them.

All in all I''m very happy with them and they certainly do humble your grip strength the first time you use them. I look forwards to regularly using them within workouts.

These things are intense. A little pricey, which is why I held off for awhile before buying them, but well worth it. If you''re looking for a fantastic and simple (not to say easy) way to increase grip strength and forearm development, these are the ticket. I''ve only been using them for a week and already I''m feeling results. Beware: if you use them on deadlift or rowing exercises, be prepared to be humbled. Quickly. I didn''t really see a big weight or volume reduction when using them on curls (some to be sure) but WOW, when I used them on deadlifts, I couldn''t get beyond my warm up weight for sets of six before my forearms were screaming. Even then, I had to reset my grip after every two reps at least. Looking forward to continuing to challenge myself and build Herculean forearms with these. 5 stars.

I must say that this is really a great product! I didn''t realize how much instability there was at my wrist and how much of a dramatic effect changing that would have on the rest of my upper body! I mean when your wrist is made to move correctly through all movements it actually changes the force vectors on every exercise and forces you to activate a lot of muscles that weren''t being properly trained. These things remind me of Vibram 5 fingers in that they re-train a weak link in your body and after it is made strong it has a reactive chain effect in every movements. Fat Grips are to the wrist what Vibram 5 fingers are to the ankle.

I''ve had my eye on the Fat Gripz for a while now and finally decided to take the dive. I was skeptical of spending $40 on something like this. I just had my first back and bicep workout with them yesterday. Wow!

I''m a fairly experienced lifter, but have never been happy with my forearms. I had been doing some direct forearm work at the end of my back and bicep day for a couple years, but wanted something more.

Upon opening the package I was shocked at how heavy duty they were. Had I known this, I probably would have bought them earlier. I feel they will last and are worth every bit of $40 quality-wise. I''m 5''9" with normal sized hands for my height, and I could not touch my thumb and fingers together while holding them. However, I did not take into account the fact that they get even bigger when placed on the bar, makings things even harder.

Here are some observations based on how my workout went:

I did not use the Fat Gripz on deadlifts, as I already have to use straps on my heaviest sets. I tried to use them on pullups and was shocked at how difficult they became. I could only do a few pullups before I got scared my grip would slip. My sweaty hands did not help, I''m sure, but I don''t think I''ll be using these on pullups for a while. They did not inspire confidence while I was hanging from the bar, to say the least. It felt borderline dangerous.

I used them to great success, however, on lat pulldowns, several variations of rows, etc. By the time I got to biceps my forearms were burning. Bicep work with the Fat Gripz are really where they shine, in my opinion. I could still use weights that challenged my biceps while getting intense burn in my forearms as well. By the end of my bicep routine I was spent, sweating way more than usual. I did not do any direct forearm work because I could barely close my hands.

My forearms are usually barely sore the day after I work them, but today they are extremely sore. I''m eager to try them on a few other exercises during my other workouts.

The bottom line: I love these, but will only be using them on certain exercises. They feel like they will last a LONG time, and are much more heavy duty than I expected. I am excited to see how my forearms progress in the months ahead!

I was hesitant to spend 45 dollars for a piece of rubber,but damn, these things are effective. The FAT GRIPZ basically widen the dumbbells,and when this happens,you are forced to activate muscles you wouldn''t normally activate or feel too much during weight lifting (in particular in your forearm).

I''ve been lifting for a week now with the grips,and man, what a huge difference. The extra width makes the weight harder to grip,and therefore, it takes significantly more effort to do reps. As an example, I normally do bicep curls with a 25 pound dumbbell,but with the Fat Gripz on, I have to use a 15 pounder. The 15 pounder feels like it weights a ton. This past week,every exercise I''ve done has been with 10 to 15 pound weights,yet I feel like I''ve been lifting massive stones. Also,my forearms are PUMPED.

I have no doubts that these things will increase your grip and forearm strength,and I liked them so much I''ve ordered a second pair! Also, the grips are made of high quality military grade rubber,and they are easy to snap on and off your dumbbells. They are a bit expensive,but the quality of your workouts will improve exponentially. Highly recommended!
