MiR MV 20LBS Adjustable Weighted Vest

MiR MV 20LBS Adjustable Weighted VestI''ve used this vest for a couple of weeks and I''m real pleased with the quality and fit. I''m 6''1" and it fits a bit high on my chest, but very secure and comfortable. The velcro strap holds the vest tight even during jumping exercises. This vest uses bags of sand-like material for weight, and you adjust the weight by adding or removing the individual bags. I sure hope these bags don''t break, b/c what ever is in them, it sure stinks. I hope the smell fades with time. This is the first time I''ve bought a vest and I though that 20lbs would be plenty, however, b/c this vest fits so well, the weight is well centered and controlled, I hardly even notice the weight. I''m very happy with the vest, but if I did it again, I''d buy a 40-60lb vest.

I dont think the vest smells bad like the other reviewer wrote. It doesnt smell like roses, but its fine. haha. As for the fit. The vest fits nice over my shoulders. I wore it for 2 hours during a hike and it was perfect. It did not hurt my shoulders at all. I do like how it sits high on my body because it does not interfere with situps. I found that doing pushups and pullups with this thing on really gives u a great workout. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars was because you cant really run with it. The straps secure fine on the bottom of the vest but the upper portion bounces on and off of your upper chest when running and found that I have to hold it with my hands while running and that is not fun. 4 stars for a nice fit and addition to my workout, minus one star for not being able to run.

I''ve owned this vest for about a month now and usually use it 3-4 times a week for 20-60 minutes at a time. I use it as additional bodyweight during weight lifting and also for running. So far it''s held up quite nicely, no tears or rips, a few loose string here and there. When I first received it, it took me a while to figure out how to attach the straps but after that it was easy. The weight is in a good position on your chest, not too low which would put more pressure on your lower back. Once strapped in the weight doesn''t bounce or shift around too much. The vest is comfortable and doesn''t leave marks or put too much pressure on you. Some additional notes. This is a weighted vest so it will put extra weight on the trapezius muscles of the neck, if you are not used to this, or have weak or small trapezius it could take some getting used to. Also with the vest strapped up and the additional weight on your chest cavity it makes it harder to breath and challeneges your breathing muscles. Just some stuff to be aware of.

This vest is made of very durable material, However, the sand bag casing is not and the thread used to hold the vest intact may very well be the worst! Within 3 weeks of use, the thread that holds the velco down busted, unraveled and now the velcro is hanging from the unit. My level of use: (30mins straight of heavy bag and 20 mins of mitt work 3x per week, pull-ups, push ups, rope climbing and other various body weight exercises 2x per week, Im am 5''10 203)so, I''m not a really large guy nor did I do exercises that would put alot of strain on the vest to cause it defect. Im hoping I just received a bad unit and that I dont experience this with the replacement vest.

I purchased this vest because I wanted to add an additional level of difficulty to my daily running and workout regimen. I have now used the vest 5 times and have come to the below conclusions.

Pro:

Weight is evenly distributed front to back and side to side so it does not throw you off balance.

Weight of ~20LBS is great to start with for weight training

Removable weighted bags are convenient

Adjustable to ALMOST any body type (Mine Not Being One Of Them)

Seems to be of durable construction, only time will tell though

Cons:

As previously stated, the vest is adjustable to most body types. I however am a smaller guy at 5''6" and 145#. It fits quite well around the chest area however the lower adjustable band does not quite fit snugly enough which in turn lets the vest bounce up and down throughout my workouts which can be quite cumbersome and very painful over the course of an hr long workout. My neck is still hurting 3 days after my last workout.

As some have stated, the vest does have a chemical smell to it. In time I am sure it will disappear as it has already started to dissipate to some degree.

All in all, if you are looking for an inexpensive weight vest to get started, this should be something to look at.
