Reebok Stability Ball Kit with DVD

Reebok 75cm Stability Ball Kit with DVDI recently found an awesome chiropractor.

I found out to my great displeasure that I have degenerative discs in my back, bone spurs, and arthritis.

(The joys of getting old)

Anyway...in addition to months of therapy I really needed an office chair.

One that would work and one that wouldn''t break the bank...or my back for that matter.

I looked at a multitude of ergo chairs and my chiropractor told me to get a balance ball.

I found this one at my local Target and.......

I''ve been sitting on it for a total of a half hour and I can already feel my abs working.

Granted it was a pain to inflate, if you have an air compressor or a bike pump I would go with those.

So far, I''m liking it.

I''ll update frequently as to whether or not it holds up.

I''ll check out the dvd''s when I get home but chances are I won''t be doing much cardio or core work while at the office.

I''m not exactly light so if I hear a loud pop I''m going to be totally mad.

Review update 08-21-12...

I''ve now been sitting on my ball for six months and I''ve only had to add air once in that time period.

All in all I''m very happy and my back hasn''t felt this good since childhood thanks to my chiropractor. Using this ball instead of a chair was a great idea that I do not regret implementing.

I do miss sitting in a regular chair from time to time but the rewards I''ve reaped from the ball chair far outweigh any need I have for a regualar chair.

And it is fun to bounce on. :)

Review update 01/16/2013.

I''ve been reading some folks are having an issue with the smell.

And yes, the ball is pretty stinky.

I wiped mine down with a scented dryer sheet and that got rid of the smell for me anyway.

The ball itself is just OK. While it didn''t burst, I felt it deflated far too fast (faster than other exercise balls I''ve used), and frequently needed extra air before use (I''m 110lbs, and never bounced up and down on it, so this seemed odd). The worst part is the sucky hand pump. You have to WORK to get the air in, and the pump nozzle always pops out while pumping. Worse, the hand pump doesn''t function smoothly, making it terribly in efficient and even more frustrating to operate. I deflated the ball fully 3 times for travel (and thus had to re-inflate fully). On the third time I went to re-inflate, the hand pump up and died. It won''t push out any air at all. And that was the end of the ball.

Thanks for nothing, Reebok.

After eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Reebok Stability Ball, I opened the package, got out the ball, the pump and the instruction sheet and immediately set out to inflate the ball and watch the DVD. Unfortunately, after several unsuccessful attempts at blowing up the ball each time thinking I was doing something wrong I realized the the pump was not working properly. Air was escaping from the side(s) of the pump making it impossible to create enough force to inflate the ball.

Thus, I packed everything up and sent it back to Amazon for a refund. Refund process was efficient and painless thanks Amazon.

So, while I cannot provide a review for the Stability Ball itself, I can attest to the poor quality of the flimsy plastic hand pump, hence the one star rating.

I picked this up to help with stretching my hips during pregnancy. The fact that it''s weighted was a pretty appealing idea for me. As other reviewers mention, the weight is actually just sand inside. Personally, I didn''t mind that -I actually might end up adding sand to the Gaiam ball I ended up keeping, because I do think that the little bit of resistance helps the ball stay in place a lot better.

However, I did end up returning it because of the smell. It took a while for me to find out that it''s made from PVC, and since it''d be going against bare skin with a newborn around, I''m not really as comfortable with it. Not to mention the off-gassing was bad enough that it was starting to give my (admittedly overly sensitive) sense of smell a lot of trouble. Also, nausea.

If you''re not concerned about the materials, I''d say this is a great product. For me, the concern over plastic was strong enough that I went with the Gaiam ball instead.

I will say that the height guidelines are a little deceptive. I''m 5''3", so most recommendations are for me to have the 55cm ball, but my legs are longer than average for my height, so the 65cm works a lot better for me.

i use this to bounce my baby when he is fussy or can''t fall asleep on his own. I don''t know where we would be without it. the stability part is great because when i''m tired i don''t have to worry about the ball rolling away.
