SPRI SC-5R Braided Xertube (Level 5 - Ultra Heavy)

SPRI SC-5R Braided XertubeI picked up this band looking for more resistance over the SPRI Purple (Very Heavy) band which I''m disappointed to say it does not provide. It is a good quality band and the grips are large and comfortable but considering it''s more than twice the price of the purple band which sells for about $9 on amazon I have to recommend you skip this one. The large grips may also be a negative depending on how you use the band. I was unable to hold both handles in my hand at the same time to double resistance like I could with the smaller handles on the purple band... 3 stars because its a good band but it seems unnecessary considering SPRI already has a better product for half the price. Based on its resistance level I would definitely say it''s not for ''Professional Athletes'' either so I wasn''t happy to be mislead like that...

I was really excited about getting this band, since it is considered a professional strength band. I incorporate band training along with my dumbbell training. Yet I must say that I''m a little disappointed overall. The product is very well made, and I have little doubt it will be very durable. The bands appear very strong, and the handle is well constructed. My only gripe is the resistance isn''t as hard as I thought it would be. This band is 4 inches longer, than another black heavy band I have. With me being only 5''7, I have to make the biggest loop possible to get the same resistance from the shorter black band. Like me, its a small thing, but I thought I would be challenged more with this band. Not saying its not a good band, but to me it wasn''t worth the $25 I paid for it. My shorter black heavy band has equal resistance, and it cost $12 less. I''ll still use it in my routines, but I have a hard time believing this is the heaviest band out on the market.

I think the other reviews are accurate. This is really not "professional athlete" resistance. It''s about the same as the purple (xtra resistance) SPRI band, so anyone looking for a stength cord that''s ultra super resistant for their 240 lb muscular frame well, this won''t cut it. It shouldn''t be hard to make a genuine super ultra resistance cord, but I don''t think anyone''s done it yet.

But, even though it''s not super extra ultra resistance, it''s a nice resistance for an average strengh, 40 something year old male type person like me, and I also like that it''s a bit longer than the other cords (I think it''s 4 inches longer not 6), but the extra lengh is nice for reaching around doorways or over my chin up bar.

I also love the grips. Somebody said they were too big, and I''m not saying that review is wrong, cause we''ve all got different hand sizes, but these grips fit my hands perfectly. The extra cushion are soooooo much more comfortable and fun to use than the hard plastic grips that most of these come with.

In short, It''s perfect for my uses and I''m really really really happy with it. I''d give it 6 stars if I could. It''s not often that I buy something this cheap that I use this often.

This is a great exercise band for working out at home. I was looking for a heavy duty band because I am a big guy (6''5" 270 lbs.) and I was tired of all the bands that claimed to have extreme resistance, but I couldn''t even break a sweat with them. This band is great. It is an exaggeration to say that it is the level of a professional athlete, but it definitely provides some great resistance. I also really like the handles. They are a supportive padding material that is extremely comfortable to use unlike many bands that have painful plastic handles. I use these bands for P90X and they work great for many of the more intense exercises including the pull-up substitution. I can tell that these bands are going to last a long time, and I am glad that I bought them.

I was looking for a resistance band to work with, and saw this. I like the braided construction as I thought it would provide a little more resistance and durability. About a month after using it very regularly mixed in with my regular workouts, I noticed it feels like there is less resistance... Unless I just got so used to the workouts, which I don''t think happened because I would switch up my routine and exercise. Also, the tips of the bands have plugs on them that dug into my wrists when doing curls. To stop that, I simply grabbed the tube below the handles, which also provided more resistance a new twist to the exercise. Overall, a good product.
