The features in this monitor that weren''t on the basic F6 include fitness/fat burning monitors, percentage of fat burned during the workout and the ability to upload your results to the polar website, giving you instant feedback on your progress. It also includes a fitness level test that you can perform periodically. The images on the screen are large and easy to read. While working out you can view a summary of the stats or loop through each individual stat. If you hold the watch close to the transmitter, it will switch briefly from the stats to the current time. If you want to target a workout to be strictly fatburning, you can use your monitor to control the intensity of your workout. The same goes for a fitness workout.
After a couple of workouts, the transmitter was not working well and I replaced the battery. This was unnecessary. The transmitter and strap needed to be thoroughly cleaned after each workout, not just rinsed as I had been doing.
There are many more features as you look at the various Polar products available and I have friends who own the top of the line as well as the entry level monitors and all are pleased with the quality of their purchase.
NOTE: You will need to purchase the upload device (FlowLink) to make use of the polar website. I purchased mine from Amazon at the same time I bought my monitor and my coworkers and I share the device.
For you women who want something "pretty", the band reflects the light, making it sparkle. There are also flowers embossed on the band and printed around the face of the watch. I didn''t notice these features when I looked at the images on Amazon. I would have preferred a different color than black, but at least they tried to make it look pretty.I have owned several polar products over the years.... an old M32 watch and transmitter band... a VERY old transmitter band for my over 10 years old Schwinn treadmill. When the battery in my M32 died again I decided it was time to get a new watch, and I like that I can change the battery myself on the FT40.
I have only had the unit for 12 hours :) but I like the features and display.
The band has little slits in it along the entire length into which the buckle can hook, so it can adjust to fit big and small wrists alike. The strap also has a little clip with a hook that will grab one of the slits on the tail end of the band and hold it down, so the clip doesn''t slide up and down the band as you wear it. I think those are small but very nice improvements.
The display is large enough for my over-40 messed up vision to read with or without my glasses.
I also purchased the Polar FlowLink. I have a MacBook with the latest version of Mac OS X and I didn''t have any issues using the FT40 with it. Worked great on the first try.
I should point out that the little booklet that comes with the FT40 is a "getting started guide," not a users manual. It only has enough info in it to get the watch started and set the time/date, user settings, etc. To figure out how to *use* and interpret the FT40 and its fit test, data file, training programs, I had to find the users manual online... here''s a link:

Buy Polar FT40 Women''s Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black) Now
I bought this heartrate monitor to use while I''m pregnant. It allowed me to set a maximum heart rate to make sure I didn''t go above what the doc recommended. It beeps when my heart rate gets too high. I like to see how many calories I''ve burned at the end of my workout, and it stores your last 16 workouts. Not only is this watch functional, but it''s also a good looking watch. I''ve been wearing it hiking, and with casuals clothes. So, not only do you get a great heart rate monitor, you also get a stylish watch!Read Best Reviews of Polar FT40 Women''s Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black) Here
I bought this heart rate monitor to replace my Sportsline 925 version that constantly froze up on me. The Sportsline version did not have a chest strap, so you had to constantly evaluate your rate by touching the face of the wrist unit. I received good results, but wanted a more accurate evaluation of how I was performing. After some research, I decided on Polar''s FT40 in black. Here are my thoughts after one use.1. I love the wrist unit. I have very small wrists, but it fits perfectly and has a loop to secure the strap with a raised bump that fits in a band hole to keep the wrist band in place. On my old hrm the strap would always get caught on something because the loop would move closer to the catch exposing more of the band. The FT40''s loop connects to a hole in the band keeping it secure. Brilliant! The unit is also very light weight.
2. The chest strap fits well and does not move. The wearlink connector has a molded top (not squared off) so it won''t cut into your chest. Again, brilliant design. I didn''t even notice the connector or strap was there while doing an ab routine.
3. The initial set up on the wrist unit was cake. It took me less than 5 minutes. The fitness test was also easy to conduct (lie down and relax? Sure!).
4. For comparison purposes, I did the same workout on Wednesday with my old monitor as I did on Friday with the Polar monitor. Here''s how it worked out while doing Jillian Michaels'' 30-Day Shred, Level 2.
The Sportsline monitor showed me burning 442 calories in 30 mins. I checked in around the start of each of the exercises in each circuit, but not consistently. Using the Polar monitor I didn''t have to check my rate at all so I just worked out hard. At the end of the same workout, the Polar had me burning 220 calories. HALF!! I had been basing my food intake on the Sportsline data, which admittedly isn''t 100% perfect, and was probably over eating. During Friday''s workout I viewed my heart rate on the Polar wrist unit and the numbers were similar to that of the Sportsline. The difference is that the Polar tracked my 100% of the time, whereas the Sportsline unit only adjusts when you manually check your rate.
In spite of those results, and the knowledge that I need to work a little more, I am thrilled with this unit. Starting out with the Sportsline monitor was great though it wasn''t overwhelming and was a good starter watch to have. But, now I''m ready to step up my technology a bit and see how it helps me refine my workout data.

It works great. I love it! It is exactly what I was expecting! It shows you your heart rate throughout your whole workout. Great for interval training as well. It also keeps track of your previous workout so you can look back. :)
