Smooth Fitness Agile DMT-X2 Elliptical Trainer

Smooth Fitness Agile DMT-X2 Elliptical TrainerReading some of the reviews, I''ve been puzzled about a lot of what folks are saying. This is a superior piece of exercise equipment that would make any serious elliptical owner giddy.

Around the console issues mentioned: I''m 6''4", and I can see and interact with the console easily from any motion I make on the trainer. My guess is that they evolved the console a bit, and that the new model has a better viewing angle-this isn''t even remotely an issue now. (I bought mine in summer 2010).

Also note that one user mentions that the programs don''t allow you to change the intensity and the stride length during a workout without doing it manually. Actually, the custom programs (up to 5) allow you to do just that. My guess is that this may be related to the old console -or, more probably, the user didn''t read the manual. The custom programs allow for both variations in intensity and motion from minute to minute. I just got finished setting up a hill-climbing program that increases intensity and shortens range of motion "up" the hill, and then lengthens the stride coming back down. Very cool.

What you''ll also notice is that no-one doesn''t like the "feel" and durability of the elliptical. It''s a solid, well-made piece of equipment, and it''s a joy to workout on. (Well, as much as working out is ever a joy.) The motion is smooth, and I''m able to use it without any pain, even after a hard day of officiating soccer the day before (trust me, chase high school soccer players for 80 minutes a few times a day -your knees will probably hurt!). The dynamic range of motion works well for my entire family-my wife (5''3"), my older daughter (5''7") and I all love to use the machine.

The IPOD speakers are definitely tinny, but not bad for a piece of exercise equipment. I do wish it had a drink holder.

Assembly is pretty involved -I build computers in my spare time, and I''ve assembled more machines than I can count, and it still took me 2+ hours to put this together. Note, it''s not a light piece of equipment...if having it delivered upstairs or downstairs, I''d pay for the "in room" delivery. It''s not too bad to move after it''s assembled and you can tilt it up and roll it, but it''s not light by any means.

Net, if you''re looking for a really firm elliptical that should last for a long time and has great motion, this fits that bill nicely.

The video says everything.

This equipment starts getting rust from day one. Tired of wiping and taping the joints from the rust. I leave it to show on the video. Sucha noisy and cheap feel machine. Grinding/squeeking noise makes it feels like a $199 elliptical. Both of my smooth fitness (treadmill 9.45 ST and this DMTx2) are big time disappointment. Nothing but noise maker and traoublemaker.

I bought the DMTx2 even though the treadmill experience is not smooth because their service attitude was good. Now they don''t even have the service or warranty left!!! Good luck if you bet on this company, I was a sucker spent $3600 on this brand name.

I bought my Smooth Agile DMT X2 Elliptical machine in January, 2010 and I have been very disappointed with the quality, given the price that I paid ($2,000).

As with other reviewers, I found the display to be virtually unreadable. I am 5 ft. 10 ins. and the only way I could read the display was by stooping down. It is remarkable that Smooth Fitness would ship this product with such a serious design flaw.

The iPod docking station is worthless because the quality of the speakers is extremely poor. I used it once to test it and I have never used it since. This feature seems to be nothing more than a gimmick, designed primarily to persuade you to buy.

Despite all of the above, the exercise part of the machine itself worked fine for the first six months. However, a few days ago, the electrics on the display panel started going haywire. The settings started to change mid-exercise without me touching them, as if they had a mind of their own, e.g. the level of intensity and angle of motion would start falling for no apparent reason. After a few days of this, the settings stopped being visible completely. The display panel is now just a garbled mass of light and the settings are unreadble.

In fairness to Smooth Fitness, they sent me a new replacement consul immediately.

If I had to do it again, I would not buy this machine.

I have had this ellliptical for about 10 days now. Assembly was not difficult and took about 1.5 hours. I am pleased with the quality of the materials used, and everything seems to work fine. Unfortunately, the nice color LCD display cannot cannot be read when you are on the machine. When you try to look at the display while using the trainer, you cannot read any of blue text (heart rate, calories, distance, etc.) or the yellow text (countdown timer) because the viewing angle is wrong. The text can only be read when viewed at an angle of between 30-60 degrees. When looking at the display from a 90 degree angle, all you can see are 88:88. I contacted Smooth Fitness customer service, but they have no solution. You would need to be less than 4 ft. tall to read the display in its mounted position. I find it unbelievable that they did not see this coming and design a monitor that could pivot.

I have had this elliptical for 3 months and it still isn''t fixed. I can''t get Smooth Fitness to do anything to get it fixed. I have had to pester them to get the repairman to come and try and fix it. Smooth Fitness tech support doesn''t even have a wiring diagram for repair purposes. It sounds like a business in trouble. Probably run out of someones basement with a warehouse in Tiawan. I am still waiting for them to respond back to me from 10 days ago.
