Wellgate for Women Gel-Comfort Knee Support (1 Size)

Wellgate for Women Gel-Comfort Knee Support, 1 SizeI have owned two Wellgate knee supports over the last year (Patella Subluxation) and was happy with them until I wore them out. I couldn''t find a replacement in any of the stores so I looked to Amazon. When I ordered this one I thought it was a new model but when I got it turned out to be the same one I''ve been wearing. I''m not unhappy, was just hoping for a thinner material that wouldn''t show through pants too much, and this one is not that bad, and it''s still the best brace I''ve owned, and I''ve owned many over the last several years. This brace stays in place and keeps my kneecap in place, others I''ve had roll or need to be pulled up frequently. I can see where a very thin or large limbed person may have an issue with the size, I am neither but in other braces I''ve always had to have a large size. This one can be adjusted to the upper and lower leg with the velcro straps so there is some flexibility here and it doesn''t bind you in the back of the knee as others often do. If you wear one everyday it will probably last you about 6 months as the velcro will wear out.

I bought this product based on the reviews which I thought were pretty favorable. Many said the product was way too big which would suit me fine since I have big knees, but this support was way too tight for me. I should have purchased something which gave precise measurments. I think this would be a good support for a woman between 145 & 180 lbs. By no means is this a one size fits all.

I think reviews are funny. There are a handful of complaints about this product, but they''re kind of silly. A few:

Complaint: It''s bulky. Well, it''s neoprine and velcro. It''s adjustable. If you want something thinner, you''re going to have to sacrifice either support or the ability to adjust the size. Frankly, I find it very unbulky, but then, that''s compared to pretty much every other adjustable knee brace out there, cause they''re all unisex.

Complaint: It''s not supportive enough. Well, do you want it to be supportive or streamlined? Frankly, I find this brace more supportive than the ones with three straps. I''m sure this will vary based on why you need a brace. The gel/mesh opening is great for IT band issues and "wandering" kneecaps.

Complaint: It''s too small. It''s adjustable, but not infinitely so. What did you expect? If it was more adjustable, it would also be more bulky. I''m around 190#, 5''4", and the lower velcro is a little close to not reaching. But I''ve got mondo-calves. And if I was bigger, I know I''d have more luck with unisex braces anyway.

Enough of that. My favorite thing about this brace (aside from the fact that it works so well for me) is that it has only two straps, so the way they''re laid out, nothing is excessively tight around the back of your knee. The brace a physical therapist gave me used to rub my skin raw behind my knee, it was miserable. This one solves that problem.

My second favorite thing about this is the color. I feel less conspicuous at the gym or in shorts outside with this on. It just looks less heavy-duty than the black ones. In fact, I''ve gotten complements on it! Which is odd and kinda funny.

I''ve never had any trouble with it travelling, whether from running or sweating or whatever. But maybe that''s cause my mondo-calves keep it up. It does wear out I buy a new one probably twice a year. I sure hope they don''t stop making these, they''ve already stopped selling them at local brick-and-mortar stores near me.

This support is very well made, is more comfortable, and relieves pain better than other brands I''ve tried, helping me to get more exercise. Its material is soft, non-irritating, keeps the joint warm, and allows flexing of the knee when properly put on (not too tight!). My physical therapist was also impressed with its quality. If you''re on the small side, or need a greater degree of support, you may need to do some tugging to obtain the correct fit, taking care to keep the flexible mesh centered over your kneecap, and it helps, I''ve found, to put it on with your knee straightened. Once you''ve put it on to achieve your best fit (and a breaking-in process takes place as well), the support can be worn all day. If you have less pain, the Wellgate for Women knee strap may be enough for you, and is a superior product as well; I''ve used both successfully.

I purchased this after having to return two knee supports that I purchased at the drug store and a sporting goods store. Both were size small but too large for me and would end up down around my ankle. This one is perfect, adjustable but doesn''t bunch up and not very noticeable under pants. And definitely fit for a woman''s body. Highly recommended, in fact, I''m going to buy more of their stuff just in case I ever need it!
