Powerline PVLP156X Vertical Leg PressThis item was bought as an addition to another Body Solid home gym machine I already own. I needed an apparatus that worked my legs and would fit into the limited space of my home''s downstairs. Since receiving the leg press, I have used the item for about a month, and I am completely satisfied with it. First of all, it was easy to put together. Like the my other Body Solid Home Gym, there were no written instruction on how to put the leg press together only diagrams. But these were sufficient to get the job done. It''s very easy to assume a prone squat position under the weight bar, as well as very comfortable. Placement of my feet on the foot plate above was easily accomplished and keeps my feet in a secure and comfortable position during my leg press. There are three adjustable "support pin" holes on each of the vertical weight support tubes, that allow a lifter to initially mount the machine in a quarter squat position, according to their height and leg length. These pins are easily removed during exercise, so that the lifter can go through any range of motion they want. I am a shorter lifter (5'' 8") and have no trouble starting at a quarter squat position, extending my legs before I begin a set, removing the pins, and going to a 3/4 squat position. In my opinion, a taller lifter would have no problems, since I am using the lowest "support pin" hole position and there are two more positions above the ones I use. Replacing the pins after a set of leg presses is easy, although I could imagine it being slightly difficult if the lifter was performing maximum repetitions (making sure the pins are set horizontally through the hole when fatigued). Without weights on the bar, this leg press machine was a bit "squeaky". But the addition of weight, quieted the machine. To end this review, I am very satisfied and happy with my purchase.

I highly recommend this for any home gym. I get a better workout with

300 lbs on this thing than I did at the gym with 700+ on the sled.

I have heard that the squat is the king of all exercises. Due to a chronic bad back I could never perform them properly. The powerline solves this problem extremely well. Make that painfully well. Your legs will hate you in the morning. The powerline is very easy to assemble and built with quality materials. Highly recommend!!

I really like this item. My only complaint is that it is a little squeaky but perhaps that will go away as it gets broken in. I tried oil and grease but it still squeaks on one side.

I had never been on a vertical leg press before. Although I was a little skeptical, this thing is comfortable and it doesn''t hurt your back. In fact, it''s hard for me to believe, but after about two months of using this leg press three times per week, I think it''s actually more comfortable than some of the sled-type leg presses you usually see in gyms. One of the problems with some of the sled-style machines, in my experience, is that you tend to lift off the seat a little bit when you press a heavy weight, so they usually have handles you can use to help keep yourself in the right position. That''s not a problem on this machine.

There''s a little bit of side-to side movement or shaking in this leg press under certain conditions. Perhaps some of this is normal for a vertical leg press? I''ve never used one before. It''s not a matter of tightening the bolts more, and I''m still trying to pin down the exact cause or causes. It seems to increase with increasing weight, or maybe it just seems more serious with increasing weight. It also seems related to proper balance, meaning it seems like I need to do a pretty good job of balancing the weight equally with both legs and not rely so much on the leg press machine to limit movement to the purely vertical direction. The sliding vertical posts of this leg press do have braces welded to them to prevent front-to-back movement, and those braces seem to be working perfectly because I can''t detect any front-to-back movement, but there are no corresponding braces to stop side-to-side movement. My solution at the moment is to slow down my presses (probably better anyway) and make an effort to balance the weight, and it seems to be working. This is basically why I''m giving this thing 4 stars instead of 5.

I used Olympic weights without the Olympic sleeve adapters for about 2 weeks with no problems, but I didn''t have much weight on at that time either

No issues with materials or workmanship. I like how the nuts are threaded with nylon so they won''t work themselves off with use. No issues with assembly either, although several of the bolts are close in length so I did have to pay attention to make sure I was using the right hardware. The instructions are clear on this though.
