Spinervals Virtual Reality 6.0: Tempe, AZ Training Ride DVD

Spinervals Virtual Reality 6.0: Tempe, AZ Training Ride DVDThis was my second purchase in the Spinervals "Virtual Reality" series featuring cycling coach Troy Jacobson. The first was his Tucson virtual ride up Mount Lemmon and the Gates Pass/McCain Loop ride. I''ve also got a bookshelf full of Troy''s other Spinervals indoor videos and have used them to good effect for indoor winter training on my stationary trainer. Troy is easy to listen to, a good motivator, and his videos have a lot to offer any cyclist, from beginner to advanced. However, the Tempe training video would be most useful to someone who is considering competing in that particular Iron Distance Triathalon. The video shows Troy completing one loop of the three loop race course. It''s dead flat, out and back. Compared to the Gates Pass and Mount Lemmon rides, the Tempe course is four lane blacktop, scrub desert with the occasional gas station and fast food joint. More importantly, since it''s flat, there''s very little change in tempo or effort on this ride it''s 80RPM virtually the entire two hours. Again, if you''re thinking of doing the Tempe Ironman triathlon, you might consider this video. Otherwise, get Troy''s Tucson, Lake Placid, or Madison Wisconsin virtual rides. The scenery varies, as does the ride tempo and resistance. As always, though, Troy is good company on these rides.

I love the On The Road Virtual Ride series. They are a must have for anyone who trains indoors and wants to complete an ironman, or half ironman, or a century ride. The Tempe ride is a 2 hour virtual ride of the Ironman Arizona course. I like these rides because I am able to get into a pace and just ride, like I would if I was actually riding the course during a race. They probably aren''t for everyone, but if you like Coach Troy and other Spinerval workouts you should give this one a try!
