RevAbs: 90 Day Six-Pack Ab Solution Workout DVD ProgramThis is my ongoing review of RevAbs. I''m five weeks into the program so far but wanted to put in my review and keep it here as I progress.

Background: I''ve wanted a six pack badly since I saw 300. I did Crossfit on and off but have been traveling heavily in the last four years so finding kettlebells and oly bars (and people to do it with) has been a struggle, so I decided to try out Insanity. A few days before I started, I saw a forum post mentioning RevAbs. I liked Brett on Biggest Loser (yes, he was the first coach eliminated) and I always liked that he played Capoeira as I used to as well, so when I saw Capoeira on the DVD set I was stoked. I ordered it and started a few days later.

What you need to know:

* The program is 90 days long, 45 days on phase 1 and 45 days on phase 2.

* There is no Capoeira on phase 1. :(

* You will need a set or two of dumbbells (I am using 15lb/7kg and 10lb/5kg depending on where I am). You can use resistance bands or even nothing, but you will get more benefit out of some resistance.

* You always need a towel, and usually a mat (I''m using a yoga mat)

* The first phase ONLY involves strength training + mercy abs, fire up your abs, and power intervals.

* The max training in phase 1 is strength training + mercy abs, which will take ~1 hour total.

* Fire up your abs is ~40 minutes, and power intervals is ~27 minutes.

* You will work out Monday-Saturday, Sunday is mercy.

The Good:

* Brett knows his stuff and he''s fun to follow along to. People on Amazon are complaining that he sounds silly by saying "Drinkie poo" but he only says that twice on phase 1, but you will hear that 2x/week since you are playing the same DVDs again and again.

* Brett seems to know the exact point to encourage you -it''s weird, but he''s right there with me. I think that part is great.

* The exercise is tough -it''s not impossible and it''s not Crossfit, I would know. I haven''t puked after a workout but I''m sweating like a pig, or my abs are hurting, or I have to hit pause a few times. This is not on the level of Insanity which I think is a good thing -inverted interval training seems a little too extreme on the nervous system.

* The people training along will have to modify as well -they are human. It makes me feel good.

The Bad:

* If you have problems with your knees, you will need to do the modifiers. I''m 30 and in decent shape but I have problems doing the ''striders'' as well as the ''squat jump'' which is basically a burpee.

* You should really considering wearing decent shoes--running or better. I usually work out barefoot or with chucks, but there is a lot of plyometrics/jumping here (lots of jumping jacks) and landing barefoot repeatedly hurts after a while. I had to check my ''barefoot is better'' ego at the door for this and buy shoes (and I may do insanity after revabs).

* Everyone in the program is good looking, but seriously, Amanda in strength training? She''s seriously hot and a distraction. I probably spend 90% of strength training staring at her perfect body as she smiles and barely breaks a sweat.

Results?

I''m only 3 weeks into the program and I don''t have a scale with me. When I was 2 weeks in and about to leave the US, my weight was the same, but I definitely felt stronger in my core, lighter, and somewhat jumpier. I can feel my abs underneath a few pounds of fat.

My Diet?

I''m eating paleo. The diet manual included has the traditional approach which is low glycemic carbs (brown rice) along with lots of veggies and lean meats, but a few years of paleo indoctrination has made this my default diet. I''m trying to stick to ''traditional'' paleo which forbids pork + beef, but I slip. I''m in NZ, and there''s grass fed beef everywhere. :) In any case, my diet is low-carb so theoretically I should not be diverting calories to fat cells for storage, and I don''t feel mid-afternoon sleep troughs like people who eat carbs at lunch do. I avoid dairy except for butter in my eggs (whole, organic eggs, not egg whites). I am keeping alcohol intake minimal, but when I drink it''s only red wine or lower sugar whites like Sauvignon Blanc (which NZ is famous for!).

I''m giving RevAbs a 4 right now because I haven''t finished it yet. So far I am enjoying the program and am excited to see where it leads me. I''m trusting the general philosophy of "don''t trust the scale" which is true, you will gain muscle while losing fat for a while. More muscle does mean more calories burned, but it may be as low as 10 calories/day/pound, not 50 calories/day/pound as previously thought. In any case, I feel GOOD and want to keep going.

UPDATE: I''m around day 38 right now. I''ve had a few set-backs, one intense week of traveling, no exercise and poor diet, along with another 4-day window of the same. However every time I fall off the wagon, I get back into it and keep going, and I notice that I''m getting a lot better! I used to absolutely fear the squat thrusts but now I''m starting to rip them apart (the spice round version is still very tough since it''s more like a burpee). I just switched from a 7kg to 8kg weight today for Power Intervals and I was dripping sweat. Power Intervals 1 is no-joke a tough workout.

I''m really starting to love doing my RevAbs 6x/week. I am feeling really good when I finish the workouts, even though I still take a few breaks during them. I feel lighter, but stronger, and bouncier (better at plyometric stuff). I''m also starting to think a lot of what Brett says in my head, like "form is fundamental" and the Rev Anthem. I like Brett a lot, I know some people think he sounds silly at times but I think he is really dialed into the home DVD viewer.

I think if I had not had ~10 days total off the wagon I''d be in a much better position, but I''m not beating myself up too much: the first phase is all about conditioning yourself for phase 2, and that''s where I think the weight really starts dropping.

I have unfortunately a 11-day break coming up that I cannot avoid but I''ll be doing the 10-minute ab handout while there, and watching diet as best I can, and then I''ve got the Thanksgiving holidays, and then the Christmas holidays. Needless to say I picked a terrible time to start into RevAbs, but you know what? As long as I keep it going and keep getting back on that train, I can always repeat phase 2 (or 1) in the future and do it even better on round 2.

If you can stay in the same place during your 90-day cycle and eat well, you will at least feel a lot better. I don''t have abs poking out yet, but I do feel good.

I completed the RevAbs program. I did gain core strength and core muscle control. I did not lose weight or begin to see my abs, but that''s because I didn''t monitor my diet super carefully. Despite that, I feel my results were good. However, I found this to be a hard program to stick to. For one thing, it''s 90 days long, unlike the other Beach Body programs I have which are either stand alone (TurboJam, Rockin'' Body) or 1.5--2 months (Slim In 6, Insanity). The workouts are pretty similar to each other, so you''re doing the same basic set of moves every day for 3 months. There is some variation, but there are moves that you will do every single workout. In addition, I found Brett to be somewhat annoying. His little sayings like "Get a drinkie-poo" and "You can Brett on it" began to wear on my nerves. One great thing about this set is that there are subtitles (English and Spanish). So if you can''t stand listening to him any more, you can just turn the subtitles on and the volume down.I loved the subtitle feature and wish every work out DVD had that.

If you don''t need a lot of variety in your workouts and you''re looking to gain some serious core strength, this is a good program for you. I think Rev Abs would also be great for someone who is already very lean and just needs that little extra push to get visible abs.

Everyone who has bagged on this program because it''s not P90X you''re 100% right it''s not. This is a different trainer with a different approach. He''s not Tony Horton or Shaun T. But Brett isn''t as awful as they make him out to be honest i don''t find him annoying at all. And really enjoy the way the video is done. I also don''t feel that beachbody "missed the mark" considering they sell something for everyone(beginner to advanced), it''s not fair to put down someone else''s product because it''s not like the last one you did.

As for the workout not being challenging i really feel like thats a matter of how much work you put in. I did this program full out and was dripping when it was over.And felt like i had gotten a good solid workout in. Over all its a great program with a different approach then others and i would say is def worth trying.

I recently completed Phase 1 of RevAbs and about to start with Phase 2. So far I really like it! The workouts have the right intensity for someone who is somewhat in shape already. Not too extreme, yet a really good challenge. And with only 30-40 minutes per workout it won''t cut into your evening like some of the longer programs out there.

As the title suggests, this program is all about getting your abs ripped. And Brett Hoebel, the trainer, made a science out of it. The comprehensive program comes with a nutrition guide with some neat meal ideas, a results tracker and tape measure (which I never used), the Anytime, Anywhere, Abs folder plan (this one comes in handy when I travel for business) and a wall calendar to track my progress. The poster-like calendar hangs in my basement where I work out. My greatest pleasure is to check off each exercise as I plow through the workout every day. Love it.

Does it work?

After 4 weeks I have lost several pounds in my mid section, thanks to more conscientious eating and, of course, the rather cardio-heavy Phase 1 exercises. I can''t wait to start with Phase 2 to really chisel my abs. I definitely start to see some definition and that''s very motivating.

Overall, RevAbs is a really fun and well thought-out program. The trainer Brett is entertaining and has an infectious energy. Give this one a try!

I never write reviews, but I had to just for this product!

I ordered this after seeing Brett on Bridget Smith''s morning show, now a days I have to see a product in action before diving in and making that purchase. Well I am glad I bought this, in less than 3 weeks my abs are already starting to come in.

I am already lean already and had abs before ---my stats 145lbs male 5''10. I have tried a lot of workouts to basically get my flat stomach more defined, this program hits my core and engages my ABS in every workout. Talk about being sore!!! Brett the trainer does a good job by letting us know to FIRE you abs even during the most simple exercises so you are always working out your abs!! These workouts are not long at all which is great for me, I tend to get bored or call it lazy with long workouts, with these I have no excuse.

Im looking forward to finishing phase 1 and "Rev"ing it up for phase 2! Look out SUMMER!!!!
