Cathe Friedrich''s Cardio Kicks & Circuit Max (2 workouts on one DVD)

Cathe Friedrich''s Cardio Kicks & Circuit MaxI love this DVD. As usual, Cathe works your butt off. Definitely an advanced workout. Both are kickboxing. One uses weights and the step. If you are looking for a challenge, this workout is for you.

This review is for only the Cardio kicks segment of the DVD. I have to get a step to do the circuit max portion.

First, I''ll say I should have paid attention when I ordered and realised it was released in 2000. So things would of course seem a bit dated now. I''m going to review as though I paid $12.50 for the one cardio kick segment.

1. This workout is described as advanced by Cathe and in the other reviews, I would term it more imtermediate. I did get a bit huffed and a bit sweaty, but not til 3o minutes in. However, it''s good if you have a day when you''re sore and want a light day, as there''s a long warmup and stretch and this workout is a bit lower intensity than some.

2. the older style has its pros and cons. If you were a fan of aerobic style cardio kickboxing from the late 90''s, early 00''s this is for you. I wasn''t expecting quite so much grapevining, boxstepping, and repeater knees with this workout, but it is fun and nostalgic. Also, the huge muscley guy wearing electric blue spandex leggings is awesome!

Cathe states they are not trained in martial arts., and while this is obviously true from the technique and style, it''s still a decent workout. It''s interesting there are two guys in the workout and one of them looks like he has boxing skills, using correct form. the other (blue spandex) doesn''t, but with pants like that, who''s lookling too closely at your uppercuts?

In summation, it''s a fun, older style aerobic based workout incorporating kicks and punches. I like Cathe''s style, she''s encouraging, not too chatty and the cueing is good. I''m sure I will use this occasionally, but probably not in heavy rotation.

UPDATE:

Well I finally got a step so I could do the circuit max portion of the workout which I did for the first time yesterday. I liked the circuit max portion better. It was a more intense cardio workout and fun. the last section was difficult for me choreography wise as I''m not a seasoned stepper and I''m sure once I get it down and can do that last bit full intensity it will be a very good workout. Even with me kind of giving up on the last 5 minute sequence and watching, i got a good sweaty high heart rate workout going for the rest of the workout. The weights sequences aren''t super challenging, I might recommend raising the weight amounts if you''re a regular weights person. I don''t have any soreness the next day. I think i''m likely to do the circuit max dvd regularly.

I love all of Cathe''s DVD''s, this is not for the beginner, this is definetly an advanced workout. Her cues are right on, and as always she is movtivating.
