Iso Bow

Iso BowTechnology is a great thing. When I was a kid, if you wanted to train with resistance you trained with iron and metal and things that could fall on your feet and crush bones. Now, with some plastic and rubber and a couple of brass rollers you can do the same thing and never leave your chair. The Fitness Bar offers smooth yet challenging exercises for all seven major muscle groups. There are three levels of resistance (3 hi-tech rubber bands that offer anything from one pound to ''invite a few friends over and try to stretch this band''). The accompanying wall chart offers several exercise options for each muscle group. The Fitness Bar also comes with a video workout led by the lovely and well-defined Mary Rust (a challenging workout). The Fitness Bar is designed to be an isotonic rather than an isometric workout (that is, it requires reps for definition rather than static contractions for bulk) and that is why I chose it. I also chose it for the price. The Fitness Bar is much less expensive than the traditional bullworker (another great piece of equipment) and light years cheaper than a gym that sits in the middle of the living room taking up space. The design of the Fitness Bar offers the same types of workouts as bigger items, but less expensively. And you can just put it in your closet when you''re done. A really good product.

The fitness bar is a good little workout tool. I use it more to warm up my muscles than for strength training, but it works fine as a primary fitness device. It is especially good at working the biceps, triceps, back, shoulders, abs, and chest.

It is very well built. The body is made of solid plastic with brass rollers. the rubber bands are very solid too. I expect it will give many years of good use.

My Fitness Bow just arrived and I did a complete workout today. I bought it to provide a change of pace from the Bullworker X5. Some preliminary thoughts:

--It provides a good workout. The elastic bands are designed so that they don''t snap sharply back when tension is released. Kind of hard to describe the effect, but I find them more satisfying to use than other elastic band workout devices.

--It will provide substantial resistance for leg exercises, like squats. I''d have had to pay quite a bit for weights to get equivalent resistance. Note, though, that only three leg exercises are suggested vs 18 exercises for other muscle groups.

--Little bits of the elastic bands erode off into the pulleys. I''m not sure if that''s an inevitable part of the design, or if on a couple of cycles I held the device at an angle that caused the bands to rub. The instructions suggest regular cleaning of the moving parts as part of the maintenance. The erosion of the bands isn''t a deal breaker but causes some concern.

--The pulleys must be removed to change the bands. Not terribly difficult, about comparable to changing plates with weights. Something to get used to.

--All in all, at this early stage, I''d say this is satisfactory but perhaps a little pricey taking into account the shipping.

I bought this item along with a bullworker and a steel bow as Amazon had a price for all three and I thought it would not do any harm to try it out.

It is cumbersome and not anywhere as effective as the bullworker or steel bow.

The only good feature is that I can see that it would give your abdominal muscles a good work out. But not the obliques.

So no I would not recommend it over all.
