Overall the product works as specified but there are some bug/room for improvement.

1. The wrist belt came with the product can fall off easily. There are only two studs that hold the belt together. It fell off twice when I try to unload my camera back pack. The camera bag strip caught the latch and opened the belt. The device hit the ground hard and left a dent.

2. When clearing the log data from the @trip software, it resets everything. I set the screen rotate and unit to imperial. After clearing the log, I have to set the language, rotation and unit again.

3. The unit can not setup timezone according to your location. After clearing the log, the first time it got the GPS position, the device will go back to +0 time zone.

But the customer service is pretty good. Sent a message and got reply back within several workdays and resolved the issue.

The updated firmware and software fixed the setup being erased issue.

I have been cycling for about the last 15 years off and on as a result of having children. I have mainly used my mountain bike on crushed limestone and gassy trails until recently. I moved into the world of road biking. I have used various somewhat entry level computers, you know, the 8-12 function variety. I have found that this new computer is even a greater motivator to my cycling routine.

Out of the box the unit as well as the software works as described. It does however have some annoying traits which is restarting your workout a lot leaving many waypoints. This does not matter to me as when you download the whole workout is shown in a consecutive graph which is all I need. The GPS is generally quick to establish when in sleep mode. When you turn it off, be ready for a couple minute lag in acquiring the signal. This is the only negative that I have found so far. The first time I encountered the lag I was probably 1.5 miles into the ride when the signal was acquired. I still have a Trek computer on my bike as I wanted to make sure I knew what was happening on my ride in case this unit was not what it was cracked up to be. IT IS MORE! I have recommended this to some friends, one of which on a cloudy day took a wrong turn and ended up 20 miles away from where he thought he was going, hence, the compass feature. I generally ride areas that I am familiar with, but a couple times got turned around and thought I was heading one way, only to find out that the GPS said otherwise. I generally go out for 20-30 miles a day, which, getting turned around is not that big of deal.

If you are a casual rider, the overlay onto google maps also is a motivational tool. I can show the family where I went on my ride. Couple where I went with all the graph capabilities that plugs in speed, altitude, pace, and several other factors and at times you have some comical results. The 15 mph into a 30 mph headwind and the 20-25 mph return pace with the wind behind me.

I am sitting here typing this in WI, where, it is 33 degrees, cloudy, and a hint of some moisture in the air. yes, the computer sits in my cabinet waiting for the spring thaw once again. Wait, the hint is a snow shower.

I have about 400 miles using this unit, and downloading to computer after each ride. It has not failed me yet.

Pros: Ease of use, price, small, attaches easily to stem with provided hardware. Maintains battery life quite well, I think I only charged it twice in the two months I was using it, and it probably did not even need the second charge. Shipped and received quickly.

Cons: from what I have seen primitive LCD display, only a con if you expect more (I love it as it shows so many details on the single screen which I never have to change throughout the ride). The resetting of ride when pausing, not a problem for me, but some might find it irritating.

Above all satisfied and pleasantly so. Beats spending a couple hundred dollars or more for a larger name brand GPS that does the same thing just maybe with a little flashier screen and software. The hardware locks it to the bike even through rough roads, and trains tracks. Those of you on a road bike know then what kind of vibrations and jolts this unit it going through and it stays. Bonus, not out 2-3 hundred dollars if it should happen to break.

The i-gotU GT-800 is definitely an example of how a product with so much potential can be so bad in execution. The main problem is the software and the almost complete lack of effective documentation.

When trying to clear device data, the wait is interminable, about 5-6 minutes. After the data is clear, the POIs remain. There does not seem to be a way to clear the POIs either directly on the unit or from the software. The documentation doesn''t even mention POIs.

When starting a ride or walk, it is necessary to reset the counters at the moment you want to start. There needs to be a button or button sequence that will allow the logging to be started in an orderly fashion. There is also no way to stop the unit from logging data after a walk or a ride is over. This is more than ridiculous.

There is no firmware display and though I have set the unit to automatically check for updates to the firmware, it does not do so. I have had to go to the @trip website and find them. And there''s little substance to the firmware updates to remedy the problems.

There is no display to advise how much capacity is available on the unit and if the capacity is exceeded, the unit writes over the first data which may still be needed. There should be an option to prevent this. There should be a display that tells how much time the unit can log data at the current log setting.

Tracks can only be deleted in @trip PC, not in Sports Analyzer and these two programs cannot run at the same time. There should really be only one program to handle trip planning and analysis.

In short, this product leaves a lot to be desired. It is fine for people with simple needs such as geotagging.

I had high hopes for this product because it has all the features I am looking for but there are critical omissions in the firmware and the software that have made my experience with this product much less than satisfactory.

I am running this item fine on a mac OS X Version 10.6.8, using parallels 7. However, I didn''t really get this gps to use on the computer, and the only questions that I wasn''t sure of were: Does it have a backlight, Can i switch from Metric (km) to mile per hour. As for the first question, yes it is backlit. You can turn on/off the backlight by holding one of the arrow keys. And yes you can switch the units of measurement from metric (km) to what it calls Imperial (mile), so that you can see speed and distance in MPH.

I don''t usually leave negative reviews, but this product, manufacturer and seller all failed. I purchased this GT-800 8 months ago. I used this unit infrequently, only when backpacking, so I only had to charge it 4 times since I''ve owned it. The 4th time, when I removed the charging cable, the internal connector came out with the cable, rendering the unit useless. Looks like defective soldering. That''s the problem with infrequently used items. It could have a poor reliability record, but you won''t know until the warranty expires.

I contacted the seller Doma Ventures twice for advice-no response. I contacted the manufacturer Mobile Action (Taiwan)-no response. So I am out over 90 bucks over a poor decision to buy an i-gotU computer. If someone can recommend another (non-i-gotU) GPS computer in this price range, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
