The instructions leave a lot to the imagination but with that said, it only took me 4 1/2 hours to put together. Make sure that you lay all the parts out and put them in order so you know which part is which before you begin. No weights come with this product. I like the gym but the directions are horrible.it took me 7 hours to assemble and I almost gave up twice.

Ditto from the other comments about the directions. There are no directions...period. There is only a blow up illustration, which seems to have been written by a non-english speaker. Even the illustrations (which are ink drawn and not jpg. photos) lack any significant detail. Some small parts are not even listed (which bolt to use). Some others are listed by size (in metric) on the blow up, and not by item title (you know...insert bolt "a" into part "z"). I can''t imagine why a U.S. company would allow this to happen. Make and insert your own directions guys!
Also, of the illustrated blow ups, of which there were four pages, some of the items were out of order, and had to be redone (pulleys). I ordered a weight stack extra. There were no directions on how to adapt the basic machine. I asked Powerline, and the only response I got was to remove the weight stack risers. Ooops. Except just doing that meant that I can''t put the selector all the way to the bottom of the weight stack now. That explanation was not obviously enough. I suspect that the black rubber donuts (spelled "dounts" in the parts index) have to be removed...which now will mean partial disassembly. I''ll just say no to that and use a couple extra five pound plates on the free weight bar for the machine.
You can go to Poweline''s site to see the ''directions'' yourself. Take a look before buying this product!

I purchased my Powerline PHG1000X Home Gym 16 years ago. To stay unchanged and on the market this long indicates a successful product. I had my 14 year old son assemble it on his own; he did it in two hours. In the time I have owned it I have used it two times a week and honestly, it looks as good as when it was new. The metal is undented, unrusted, unscratched and the foam and seat materials are unworn. The operation is still smooth and quiet. Every five years I replace the cables (purchased at a hardware store) and nothing else has needed to be fixed. If something did, I see Body Solid still carries the parts. Yes, you will have to buy weights (note the phrase "optional weight stack" appears three separate times in Amazon''s product description). Try to find a home gym cable machine at this price and this quality from a company that gives you a 10 year warranty and offers you replacement parts after this many years.I have owned this weight loss machine for about 10 years & I love it. My son put it together & I haven''t had any trouble with it. The butterfly extension works wonders. I highly recommend this machine.
