Susan Chung''s RapidFire: Results DVD

Susan Chung''s RapidFire: Results DVDThere are a lot of things I like about this workout and DVD. Susan does an excellent job with cueing. This is one of my first experiences with a kickboxing DVD (I''ve done a lot of aero/tone interval DVDs but nothing purely kickboxing), and I caught on very easily. However that doesn''t mean that the moves were repetitive or a lot of the same old, same old. Susan''s instruction made it so I always knew what was coming next and how many reps to expect. But unlike many workout DVDs she didn''t stop and go through a slow, excessively long explanation that interfered with the flow of the workout. All of the sections start with a basic move that she gradually builds upon with more intense combos. This sequencing is great for a couple of reasons. The basic moves give you a chance to catch your breath from the last round, and it makes it hard to get lost or left behind.

You can expect to see all of your favorite kickboxing moves, and the drills and weight sections make this DVD stand out. Drills are provide a nice change of pace and really elevate your heartrate They are higher impact, intense cardio moves that are not strictly kickboxing and include plyometrics.

Another awesome thing about this DVD are the premixes. The variety here allows you to do this DVD a couple of days in the same week without worrying about repeating moves or over/under working muscle groups. I also love how I can chose to do weights on days when I feel like weights and pure cardio for days when I just want to sweat. Here is a description of the premixes:

Full workout (73 minutes): includes 4 kickboxing rounds and 4 drills, a metabolic weight segment that targets the upper body (requires 4-6 lb handweights)

Full workout remixed (see above, this just switches the sections around so you do, combo 1, drill 1, weights/shoulders, combo 2, drill 2, weights/biceps, combo 3, drill 3, weights/triceps, combo 4, drill 4, weights/back)

Cardio explosion (55 min): combos 1, 2, 3, 4, drills 1, 2, 3, 4

Flashfire mix 1 (49 min): combo 1, drill 3, weights/back, combo 2, drill 4, weights/shoulders

Flashfire mix 2 (44 min): combo 3, drill 1, weights/biceps, combo 4, drill 2, weights/triceps

Metabolic burn (35 min): entire weights section

Blazing mix 1 (53 min): Combo 1, combo 3, drill 1, drill 3, entire weights section

Blazing mix 2 (55 min): combo 2, combo 4, drill 2, drill 4, entire weights section

Cardio burn (64 min): Combo 1, 2, 3, 4, entire weight section

All fired up (45 min): Drill 1, 2, 3, 4, entire weight section

Every option starts with a warm-up that does a really nice job of getting you set up. It includes basic punches, knees, kicks, squats, lunges, and stretches. They all end with an abs section and cooldown. The abs segment uses a handweight or medicine ball and works your abs and obliques with creative moves. I have a very strong core and still felt the effects!

I haven''t tried Susan''s other RapidFire DVD, but I am planning on buying it based on my experience with this one.

This is an advance workout that has options to modify the rounds at any point down to basic or intermediate levels if you need time to learn the routine or work into her rounds gradually. It is heart pumping with great variety and unique combos to keep your mind in the workout! Her coaching throughout is strong with excellent timing of cues. The premixes offer great options; each varies in length. There is an option to use each of the 6 rounds without her editing. Boredom is not an issue with so many options. Besides building core and lean muscle, this workout has incredible endurance sequences. I workout at home with a wide variety of DVDs. I need new challenges to keep myself motivated and toned. This is my first Susan Chung DVD and I will definitely seek out more of her workouts!
