Medicine Ball

Champion Barbell 15-16-Pound Medicine BallFirst part of the review I assume you may not know much about medicine balls, second part I explain this particular ball.

For the 7lb medicine ball

Before you shell out money for a kettleball or a set of dumbbells or bowflex adjustables, you owe it to yourself to read this review first and try out a medicine ball. No matter if is 4lbs-40lbs. I have a 4lb, 7lb, and 15lb. It can be a hardcore piece of training equipment that can be home at any weekend warrior or pro bodybuilders stock.

The 7lb feels heavier than my 15lb dumbbells, probably because you have to constantly adjust when you are holding it, even if you''re not throwing it. If you throw it up and then catch it, 7lbs dropping is much heavier than 7lbs static. I can bench press in the 150-200 range a few times, but I can toss this thing around until I can''t toss it around anymore, and it doesn''t take that much. I could pump 25lbs all day long, but not a 15lb medicine ball. This also makes it a variable weight. You can hold it with both hands and it''s like pumping 10lbs, or you could throw it up with one arm and it''d be like.. 25lbs? Throwing it up with both hands could be anywhere from 7lbs 25ish lbs depending on how high you want to throw it. You won''t be able to throw it that high unless you''re a pro bodybuilder, you will be able to find your max with this. It''s dynamic, you can choose how hard you want to push yourself on the fly. With lighter balls you can of course get a greater range of motion, fully extending your arm and moving the ball around, which will work out muscles that bench pressing 200 pounds wont.

It''s also fun, because it builds dexterity and coordination throwing a ball around. Pumping a piece of steel will build only muscle.. not so useful without dexterity.

The case is thick, double walled I think. Similar construction as a volley ball only maybe with an additional membrane and filled with sand. The stitching is heavy. I''ve dropped it a few times from 6ft and it''s been fine, although I wouldn''t recommend throwing it on the ground because it is just a high quality rubber, not cowhide or solid basketball rubber.

This ball is a bit smaller than a basketball, yet more unwieldy.. which is good. But the cover is sticky enough that you can get a pretty good grip on it. Like a polished car tire maybe.. it''s tackier than a soccer or volleyball.

It''s a great cross between an aerobic and an anaerobic exercise. It can really be either depending on how you use it.

I am convinced the exact same company who makes these makes all the others, title for example. They look exactly the same, feel exactly the same, and are all made in India.

very happy with product it arrived quickly, will definitely buy more next time i get a chance. Buyers should note that they are not the same size as a dynamax ball these are roughly similar to a size 3/4 soccer ball.

When I found this medicine ball it was priced well and listed as a 14-15 pound medicine ball. When I received it it had 9-10 pound stencled on it, I weighed it just to see if the writing on it was wrong, to include the shipping weight and to see if I was a little stronger than I thought. After weighing it I am most certain it is not a 14-15 lb medicine ball.

I use this item all the time. It is a great buy and very sturdy. I had a cover made for it with handles to protect it from aging and so I could use it more agressively in work-outs.
