They work, but the cup tends to move around (ride up ouch!.) If you have any kind of gut, no matter how small, expect the band to roll down and get uncomfortable.
After much research on compression shorts with cup protection, I purchased this short in men''s size medium for my 14 year old lacrosse player son (130 lbs). The short comes with an adult size cup, which is a bit big for a 14 year old. I ordered the Shock Doctor BioFlex cup in the Teen size (also from Amazon) and it works perfectly with this Ultra Lax Short. The adult size cup and the teen size cup both insert easily and securely into the short. The cup did not shift around much while playing lacrosse. I have been washing the cup while still in the short in the clothes washer (in warm water) and both the short and the cup have held up well. My son is happy with the fit of the short. This compression short is actually a short within a short design that allows the cup to stay in place because the cup is inserted into the inner short layer. This compression short design is worth the extra money to keep the cup in place and you will understand why it costs more than the other compression shorts with cup when you see this short in person.

I have used this product cultiple times now in place of just a regular jock strap for Brazillian Jiu Jitsu classes. It is way more comfortable, and doesnt hurt (even my legs) when people land on it. Would definatly reccomend this for anyone doing martial arts, or any sport that positioning is key with a lot of movement. I did get a size medium, and I am usually on the small side of large. so depending on where you are size wise that may have an effect.
