According to the Schwinn/StairMaster website, this particular bike does not have the Smart Release feature which allows the rider to stop peddling while the flywheel keeps turning. This bike works like a regular spin bike where the pedals and the flywheel turn at the same time. This can be dangerous if you''re not careful. For example, if you try to do a sprint on the bike, when you try to slow down, the flywheel forces your feet to keep peddling. If you''re not aware of this, it''s easy to get hurt. If you are aware of this and plan your sprinting accordingly, then you should be okay. I had a regular spin bike (no smart release) called the Schwinn "Johnny G" Spinner Pro back in the day. It just took one near disaster to get my attention. Hope this helps.
