The Isometric Total Body Workout DVD

The Isometric Total Body Workout DVDThe 7 workouts included on this DVD are very good. They will definitely increase your body temperature if you put the effort into them that JB asks, however you won''t come away sweaty like you''ve just had a hard workout at a gym. The only equipment required other than your own body is a chair, either for balance or for sitting in a few of the exercises (a couch works too), and something to lay/sit on for the stretching segment if that''s what you prefer.

JB Berns is motivating and he reminds you to always keep your abs tight without beating you up about it. A reminder is good when you''re concentrating on another area of the body.

Two things I would improve if this DVD were to be made again, however they don''t detract from the overall workouts: 1) Have the intro segments as a separate menu section rather than as track one in each workout (which can be skipped past to get straight to the workout). This would be a change to make it like the Urban Rebounder dvds and the way they''re setup. 2) During the intro show on either himself or an assistant exactly what area in the muscle you''re working that you should feel the exercise in. That would be helpful to know if you''re doing it correctly.

The 15 minute time for each workout is decieving, however I had forgotten that NO workout dvd ever includes the warm-up/cool-down portion in the time allotted. The back and stretching workouts really are 15 minutes including warm-up/cool-down. The other 5 are realistically from 20-25 minutes in length.

I have done Isometrics on my own for some time. What I like best about isometrics is that there is no equipment needed, and no gym memberships to buy or monthly memberships fees. It is also low impact so if you have knee problem or other joint problems, then this could be the exercise program for you. This DVD is really good, I did the leg workout and I felt like I had just stepped out of the gym. I have finished 5 of the seven workouts and I can say that this DVD is much better then buying the book Isometric power revolution. Yes I own this book it''s good, but there is noting better then having an instructor to follow. On this DVD the instructor uses Isometric flexing in most all of the position. He does eight sets of eight second count isometrics holds. He use moves that are not in the book Isometric power revolution, that set me back about $30 several years ago. This DVD is work the money and more.

This video could be formatted better. It''s better than most of the silly cardio video''s, but I don''t like the warm-up much. Over all good video, and I don''t know why there are not more Isometric videos on the market.

The workouts are excelent for what they do. I wish the dvd was setup so you could customize your own workout by linking segments together for times when you have more time to workout. Other than that I am completely pleased with the workouts. Jb is a little on the cheesy side. but a good motivator while your body is screaming at you.

The workouts are just the right length for me. They really work but you have to give it your all and not just go through the moves. There are a few exercises that can be done better using a different method. For example, the leg curls are best done by using one leg/foot against the other. In this video, the instructor has you do it with just one leg. I do it the way I want.

The instructor is good. While he does explain each exercise, he doesn''t explain the amount of tension you should use and the best way to do it. While a person experienced in isometrics will have no problem, a beginner might not use intensity and won''t get the benefits of the workouts at all.

Also, it''s annoying that the instructions before each workout takes up about 7 minutes. Watching it once is really a good thing. But, you won''t want to watch it each time you do the workout so you have to fast forward to the workouts. There should be a way to avoid this in making a DVD of this sort. My DVD player allows me to quickly go to the right section. But it just takes more time and effort than it should.

A final note: While I enjoy all the workouts, some more than others, I find they''re somewhat too intense in that they are devoted to just one area. For example, there''s a workout for the legs, back, shoulders. etc. That causes a good deal of soreness the next day and often you need to take a day off --and probably should.

I understand they wanted to make one workout per day. But they should, I think, devote more time to areas, like shoulders and back or chest and back and then have a whole body workout.

With those exceptions, I find this a very effective set of workouts and well worth the small investment.

Recommended.

Prior to this DVD most of the information I had seen on isometrics stated that for any movement you do six seconds of tension and that''s all that''s needed.

This is different, eight moves, eight reps for each bodypart.

It''s an enjoyable workout, but like I said, different.

I also wonder if people with hypertension should do this or not.
