Ryan Lochte Hardcore Fitness DVD

Ryan Lochte Hardcore Fitness DVDI gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because there were some worthwhile exercises in the video but everything else about it was awful. I bought this looking for a core workout to do at home to supplement the Taebo core routine that I''m fond of and figured, clearly Lochte is doing something right, might as well give his routine a try. The video''s problems are as follows:

1) clunky menu system it has 5 different workouts, each about 7 or 8 minutes long, and you can''t "play all" so you need to go through the menu/selection/intro speech several times if you want to do much exercise

2) bad instruction when you are doing core work you are often not facing a TV screen, it would be nice if the instructor talked you through what you were doing, offered corrections for common mistakes, and kept a count/rhythm going so you know how to pace. Lochte does none of these things

3) awful pacing there are so many delays and time wasters in between exercises that it''s really hard to get a good workout in. I''m in decent but not exceptional shape and I wasn''t fatigued by a single one of the exercises. if the 45 minute workout had been changed into a 15 minute workout it might have been exhausting

4) ridiculously bad presentation there are things that I found annoying (his coach was exactly the kind of condescending bully that you wouldn''t want coaching your kid, really the polar opposite of the encouraging pushing you get from people like Billy Blanks or that woman from the biggest loser who has a lot of videos), things that I thought wow this is bad (like the "Lochte underwater turn wipe" that they constantly used between scenes), then there were things that were so bad I found them amusing (mostly Ryan''s dopey monotone when giving the same meaningless instructions over and over again, dumb laugh, and vague creeping on some of the female exercisers.)

the video''s good points:

1) there are a couple decent exercises that I hadn''t done before

2) it doesn''t neglect the back and hips as a part of core fitness

3) Ryan Lochte sitting in a dark room giving instructions while wearing a black t-shirt with the words "Listen to Ryan Lochte" on it is high comedy

If you are looking for an advanced level workout similar to Insanity, Tapout XT or P90X, you are in the wrong place. The rests between the moves are too long and you really do not feel motivated to push yourself. Besides, if you are above a certain fitness level, probably your heart rate will not even rise. This is just a "me too" product and is recommended only for beginner to intermediate level enthusiasts.

I ordered this directly through ryanlochte.com and this is a great workout! Was one of the first hundred to order it and got a signed copy!

I think they''re very effective workouts! It''s a great way for me to workout at home before going to work or school. It has a warm up routine to do before the actually workouts which I think was a great idea! It also has a workout schedule on the inside so that you can keep track of everything. As another reviewer said, it is hard to face the tv when doing certain exercises, but when you do them a few times, you really don''t need to be looking at the tv if you already know how the exercise/stretch goes. I recommend it!
