MOTOACTV 16 GB GPS Fitness Tracker and Music Player

  • MOTOACTV 16GB smart music player learns what songs motivate you.
  • Set goals and start racing against them; audio coach gives you updates and keeps you going.
  • MOTOACTV is sweatproof, rain resistant, scratch resistant with intuitive controls. Touchscreen display adjusts to sunlight.
  • Included in the Motorola Retail Packaging: MOTOACTV 16GB, Motorola SF200 Sports Headphones, MOTOACTV Clip, Wall Charger with Data Cable, Quick Start Guide.

I purchased an 8GB MOTOACTV the day it was released from a local "big box" chain, and my first impressions are that Motorola has created a device with great potential, but one that needs work to smooth out a few rough edges. First, a bit about why this was purchased...

I''m a long-time casual runner who is gearing up for longer races (half marathons) next year. While I usually love to run in silence, my longer training runs are getting a bit monotonous, so I was on the hunt for an MP3 player that could add some spice to my workouts. I''ve been using different GPS watches over the years, primarily Garmins (305, 405) and, more recently, the Nike+ Sportswatch, and the thought of having both an MP3 player AND a GPS unit rolled into one seemed like a masterstroke. When I read about the MOTOACTV in October, I thought "voila!" the perfect fitness accessory. And on paper, it seems perfect. Built-in Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities. Heart-rate monitoring through wireless headphones. Use of ANT+ technology. What''s not to love?

Well, a couple of major things come to mind after having used the unit for a few days now. First, is my fear that the MOTOACTV isn''t built for real-world use. Motorola claims this device is water-resistant, but the USB port on the left side of the unit is protected by a flimsy port cover that doesn''t stay in place during runs, leaving a gaping hole for sweat and rain to enter. I suspect we''ll see lots of these devices needing repairs for water/sweat damage. Secondly, and even more damning, is battery life. I''ve taken this device on three hour-long runs now, each time fully-charged. I''ve returned home with the unit down to less than 25% power level. This was using the MP3 features, Bluetooth on to wireless headsets, and GPS tracking. Given this rate of battery burn, I doubt the device would last more than 1:30-2:00 which, in the world of marathon-training (and even half-marathons), just isn''t enough. This is a serious issue which Motorola may be able to address with software updates but, for now, it''s a deal-breaker.

There''s great potential here. The software/OS is easy to use and powerful. I love the display and overall build of the device (USB port not withstanding). And the MOTOACTV website seems solid for a 1st Gen effort. If Motorola can address my two concerns better water resistance and much better battery life they''ll have a winner. For now, though, I''d take a wait-and-see approach: wait for updates and see if things improve.

My two cents...

I got the 16GB model. Motorola released a firmware update a few days ago that greatly increased the battery life. As far as I''m concerned, it could still be a little bit better, but overall, they have listened to the complaints and for the most part, fixed the problem. I was worried about getting this unit after reading the reviews on the net. I can happily say that I am very satisfied with the product, with a couple small exceptions.

I use this strictly for running so my review can only speak to that functionality. Up until I got this, I ran with my Iphone strapped to my upper arm. It was a bulky solution, but it had everything I needed nice, robust, running app, all my music, Bluetooth, maps, GPS, 3G data connection, and of course, it''s a phone, so ability to take/make calls (which worked nicely with stereo bluetooth headphones). So did I lose some functionality by moving to this MOTOACTV? Well, yes, some. No 3G data, so music-wise I get what I have loaded on the unit, or whatever is on FM radio I used Pandora or Rhapsody sometimes on my iphone, but not often. And I''ve lost the ability to use a phone, in case of emergency. Even if I had a Moto Droid, I''m not going to double-up on the crap I''m running with, I would just stick with the phone as it does everything the MOTOACTV does. My Iphone had to be within 2 feet of my Bluetooth headphones for it to never cut out. Not the case with the MOTOACTV I got the wrist strap to run with it. And with the unit down on my wrist and my arms flailing about, never was there a hint of cut-out. Speaking of, for the price of this unit, the wrist strap and armband should have been included instead of each being an extra 30 bucks. I do understand Motorola''s thinking behind selling accessories separately knowing that likely different users will likely choose one of the many accessories available to fit their needs. But 30 bucks each is too much they are worth 10 bucks each at most. The unit does come with a clip that will suffice for most uses if you don''t want to spring the extra cash for any accessories. All in all, I don''t miss running with my iphone at all. I like the small, light form factor, the convenience, the sound quality, and the overall functionality. And I have not tested it with any sensors or monitors it can use, which I''m sure would only add positive functionality to it. Yes it is a bit bigger than an ipod nano, but WAY smaller than an iphone or ipod touch. Read the Pros and Cons for more...

PROS:

-Nice bright screen

-Responsive touchscreen (I disagree completely with the people who say the touchscreen has a hard time interpreting touch vs. slide).

-Easy to use and learn interface

-Maps built right into the watch (but also could be seen as a con, read on...)

-Bluetooth range and quality is great

-Wi-Fi Sync of workout data is a fantastic feature (read cons for a gripe about Wi-Fi networks though).

Much improved battery life with firmware update

Sweat-proof and water resistant (Smartphones, are not, as you know).

-MOTOACTV.com website has some nice features for people with fitness goals.

-One-button music functionality one button on the unit for play/pause/forward/back nice to not have to even look at the unit for these functions. Great for if you''re using wired headphones if using BT headphones, all that functionality should also be available on those.

CONS:

-Very expensive

-Phone Notification functionality only works with one Motorola phone since the device itself is Android, it should at LEAST work with all Android phones

-Important accessories are not included and are overpriced

-Maps while it''s listed as a Pro above that maps are built-in, it does use 1.5 gb of space couple that with the fact that you''re not really getting 8 or 16 gb of space, more like 85% of that, you have to take all that into consideration when thinking about how much music you want to fit on your unit.

-WiFi functionality is extremely basic as far as networks that it can connect to it can not connect to hidden SSID''s, or to Wi-Fi networks that require a user/password sign-in. My home wireless has a hidden SSID, and my work wireless requires a sign-in so MOTOACTV won''t connect to either (I had to unhide my SSID to test the Wi-Fi Sync functionality). So I have to sync over USB.

-Syncing one session over Wi-Fi takes a long time (5 minutes or more).

-Included headphones are cheap-sounding (but seem sweatproof).

I have exhausted all efforts to obtain proper support from Moto on this product. I have basically thrown it in the garbage. The final response was that the unit has been tampered with and had water damage. Be aware this unit comes with an exposed jack for headphones with NO protection. Even though i ordered separately the plug immediately upon buying it and used it, this unit still had moisture damage per Motorola.

I never ran with this unit in the rain and only cleaned it off as ANYONE would do with a sweaty dirty device. wet cloth and then dried.

Therefore if you sweat, don''t run in the rain, but do clean your devices with a wet rag or towel, you will end up with a product that stops working.

Motorola support is absolutely horrible. The return process did not even clearly state why the unit failed but in fact showed a Cell Phone error reference. I had to escalate the return of the device to me to second level support who after five days, called me back, left a message, and said the unit was damaged by me and it was my fault. They would do nothing else.

I have used Suunto, Polar, Garmin, and now Moto. I will NEVER purchase a Moto fitness product again. I wasted nearly 300 USD in the unit and accessories for what was clearly a poorly designed product. Motorola has no business being in this fitness business. Stick with your Garmins and Polar and Suunto devices and carry a mp3 player. The Motoactv is garbage. go to the Moto forums and you will see similar complaints by others of this same problem. the rest of it is just gimmicky software for music and fitness.

I bought it because the concept is a GREAT one by combining both music and fitness in one device and incorporating social networking.

BTW I will not even begin to go into all of the webportal issues, the workout bugs, battery life issues generally, and overall technically buggy nature of the device. If you are considering the device you should stop now, soley because the device WILL cease to function with normal everyday use and it will be considered YOUR fault. Bugs in software are tolerable so long as the company is actively releasing firmware to correct.

UPDATE 8/25/2012, upon finishing my first ever 10 mile run, with the Motoactv.

The gist: The Motoactv (MA) device is an amazing piece of hardware that has transformed me from an occasional runner to a running fanatic. The Motoactv web portal is basically useless when it does work, which is pretty rare these days.

(I only use the Motoactv for running, and was not an avid runner prior to using it, and never used any electronics or software while running other than a 2nd gen ipod nano)

Long version:

Prior to buying the MA, I used to go running two to four times a week for a maximum of 30 minutes, and no method for tracking distance, time, or performance improvements, other than how I felt.

Since getting the device about three months ago I have faithfully gone running four days a week, increased my max distance from 2.5 miles to 10, and shaved a full minute off my mile time. I ran a 10k and placed fourth in my age group. I''ve subscribed to running blogs and magazines, and for the first time in my life researched a pair of running shoes rather than just going out and buying the cheapest pair I could stand to buy.

Here''s some highlights and features:

1. Race yourself: I run the same three mile course two or three times a week, and the "race yourself" feature helps me to pace myself throughout the course so that I can always shave a few seconds off my time.

2. Music: I''m pretty anal about my running playlists so I don''t use the MAs "smart" features, but one thing that is neat is that your average step rate is tracked, so you can compare it to the BPM of the songs in your playlist. I use this to create a playlist that helps me achieve the pace I''m looking for. (Search for Mixmeister BPM analyzer for a pretty reliable program to fill in the BPM information of your music.)

3. Coaching: the MA will tell you audibly when you''re 50% and 85% done with a planned course. There are a whole lot of other options too for what it can tell you. Speed, pace, lap time, average pace, etc.

4. Setting targets: You can set time and distance targets for runs (or both at the same time if you want to keep a certain pace) and the device keeps you updated on your progress. If I wanted to run a certain distance before, I either had to run in a circle (boring) or spend a while on Google earth measuring a course and make sure I didn''t make any wrong turns. With the ability to set targets, I just put in my target distance and start running. Once I''m halfway done I turn around and head back, usually taking a different route. Also great because you can go for a run to figure out a new course and still achieve your goal.

5. Form factor: I sweat a lot and have had no problems. Ran through rain some too, and no problems. However I''ve heard it''s very important to keep the headphone jack plugged (it comes with a small rubber plug) if you''re not using headphones. Touchscreen is pretty simple to navigate while you''re running. There are a lot of buttons on the outside, but once you get comfortable you realize they''re all pretty useful.

Now, on to the portal.

At least 30% of the time I can''t log in due to some error. At least 30% of the time when I am logged in, it''s horribly slow, there''s some bug, or it stops working. Despite the fact that these problems have been going on for months, there''s no status landing page for Motorola to tell you "hey we know there''s a problem, we''ll be back in a few hours."

Features which are good:

1. After each run, you can see your route on a map and chart statistics such as pace, steps per minute, and elevation. You can mouse over the chart to see where each point is on the route. You can also see which songs you were listening to at each point.

Features which aren''t there:

1. Charting performance across runs.

2. Analyzing multiple runs to see how time of day, weather, elevation, etc, affect your performance.

3. Keeping track of how many miles you''ve put on your shoes.

4. Showing all runs on one map.

5. Search! You can journal about runs, but you can''t search what''s in the journal!

There is an option to export data, which I''m planning to start using. There are lots of websites which would do the features that the MA portal is lacking I''m just trying to figure out which one I want to use. Of course, if they ever do get the portal to be useful, all of my data would still be there, so I could always switch back.

Personally, I am very pleased with my purchase. Just don''t buy it if you think the website is the most enticing feature.

UPDATE there are two big issues everyone on the forum is talking about.

1 warranty doesn''t cover water damage, and a lot of people are experiencing water damage. Personally, I am an extreme sweater. When I take my MA off the wristbrand is slick with sweat. But I''ve had no problems. Personally, I think there must be some QA issues in the sealing process meaning that when it works right, it works great, but sometimes it doesn''t work at all.

2 the portal is still broken. That''s all I can say about that. Kind of embarrassing if you''re Motorola.

I got the MotoACTV 16GB to help get myself into shape. I love the online Portal service, since it lets me track all my progress as well as plan my workouts. I normally just do a running workout at the gym while listening to music and battery lasts me around 2-3 days before I need to recharge it. On top of that, the device itself looks pretty cool and I''ve even received a few compliments from my coworkers on my "nice watch". It is also nice that I can leave my phone in my bag while at the gym and still get notifications of text messages and phone calls, it''s one less thing I need to keep track of while working out. All in all, I''m loving the device, and would definitely recommend it for people trying to get in shape or who just like working out.

Game Rider Pro Gaming Bike and System with TV Screen

Game Rider Pro Gaming Bike and System with TV ScreenAfter putting the bike together my husband and I could not make the handle bars work properly with the games on screen. Once we figured that out, and began using the game screens we realized that unless you were and expert video game player (which we are not) all I do is crash and burn. Kind of funny really. The bike part however, is good. It is very quiet and easy to operate. Anyone who buys this be forewarned you will need a gel bike seat cover for comfort. I will enjoy using it but most likely would not purchase this again.

Minotaur Fitness X-treme Indoor Cycling Bike (HP-SP0810-1PJ)

Minotaur Fitness X-treme Indoor Cycling BikeI bought the bike on sale for $499.00, free shipping, and at that price this is a good deal. It is solid, quiet (belt-drive), and very adjustable. My wife uses it and she is 6 ft, and it seems to fit her fine. Taller than that and maybe you''re pushing the limits, though. The seat is a little hard, but my wife added a gel pad. The shock absorber is adjusted way too firm, no movement at all until you adjust it a bit. Although the bike comes with tools to assemble, there is no shock absorber adjustment tool provided. I used an oil filter wrench which worked well to adjust the big star-style nut under the spring. But you can only adjust a bit, and although it helps, the spring is still pretty firm. Not much shock absorption.

The bike looks very nice, and doesn''t look cheap at all. It "rides" nice, with very little play or movement. Overall, well-made. When assembling, remember that one of the pedals is left-hand thread. The instructions don''t mention this, and it''s been years since I fooled around with bikes and I just plain forgot. It took me an hour figuring this out till I had my "duh!" moment. In the $500.00 price range this is an excellent deal for a spinning cycle; much, much better than the ones we saw at the local sporting goods stores. Hopefully it will last. If it doesn''t I''ll add to my review, but so far so good.

I gave the bike a 5 star because at the $500.00 price point it is an excellent deal. At the $8-900.00 range it would probably rate 4 stars, mostly because the shock absorber doesn''t really add to the riding experience. It needs to be better designed and more adjustable. And at the higher price point one would expect a spinning bike to handle a rider taller than 6 ft easily. But, all things considered, for $500.00 I''d buy the bike again.

I ordered this as a Christmas Present to myself after taking a beginner Spinning class at the Gym. This bike is well constructed and quiet. Very easy to set up and start using. Get this bike you will not be disappointed.

Altus Athletic 6-Inch Premium Padded Lifting Belt (Large)

Altus Athletic 6-Inch Premium Padded Lifting BeltI only wear a weight belt on occasion and it is still stiff from being new but also already has crack in the leather where the buckle is. I do not expect it to last much longer. I have maybe worn this belt 40 times and the leather is cracking through. Would not purchase again. Also the size is weird. Its only 2 inches bigger than a medium size.

CAP Barbell 25 lb Black Olympic Weight Plate

CAP Barbell 25 lb Black Olympic Weight Plate$1 for 1lb is a good deal. Walmart charges more than $1 for their standard weight plates.

These are iron with a matte black finish painted on.

It''s for olympic weight bars. Olympic weight bars have bearings on the ends that allow the weights to rotate with momentum so you are less jerked by that momentum.

On ebay I found plates for $1 per llb also but you need to buy $150-$300 kits. I like being able to accumulate plates slowly for what I need, and I don''t need 150lbs since an olympic bar alone is 40lbs.

The cheapest would be to find these at a yard sale or a fitness business going out-of-business. But I didn''t have any luck finding either of those things. Olympic plates are much rarer I''ve found.

Hope that helps.

These are well built cast iron weights and this is what matters. I prefer the gold lettering of Gold''s Gym weights, but its no big. The reason I used an asterix is because one side of the weight plate is covered in stickers. They do not simply peel off. The glue has hardened and you will only be able to peel half of the sticker and the gum residue remains where you did manage to tear off the outer paper layer of the sticker. So, I soaked the weights in some detergent solution to break down the glue and then used those plastic scrubbies to get the sticker residue off the weight. You should know that the result of this arduous and completely ridiculous and unnecessary chore is a scratched plate as the scrubbing inevitably removes some of the black paint. It took a long time to do this to 4 weight plates. I imagine most will just leave the stickers on, so expect to do one of these 2 options with these sticker plagued plates.

Buy CAP Barbell 25 lb Black Olympic Weight Plate Now

It is round, black and 25 lbs. Like other people said, the paint job really is silly. Whoever painted the gray lettering smeared gray paint outside of the lettering. Oh well, for the price, you can''t complain.

ASICS Men''s Thermopolisxp Running Pants

ASICS Men''s Thermopolisxp Running Pants,BLACK,LHave ran in these pants in 20 degrees with wind at 15 to 20 mph and I wasn''t freezing. Ran with them in 35 degrees and wind 10 to 15 and they where just perfect warm but not hot.

Great heat retention and wind resistance. Very comfortable with no binding, the interior is very soft against the skin. Easy to use as a warm-up pant, warm enough to use in place of winter running tights. Side pockets are very useful for holding gels or keys. My only wish was that there was a little more reflective material on it, since it tends to be dark when I run in these, and visibility and safety always go together. Highly recommended.

Battle Creek Pedlar Light Workout Exerciser

Battle Creek Pedlar Light Workout ExerciserThis type of home exerciser was recommended by my physical therapist after I had arthroscopic surgery on both knees. I found the Pedlar is not only fine for my physical therapy knee exercises, but I also maintain my upper body and arm exercises by putting the Pedlar on the table and using my hands to rotate the pedals. I especially appreciate its size and convenience. I took it along on a driving trip vacation and used it in my hotel room. It took up very little space in the car (in fact it fit on top of my walker in the trunk) and fit into the closet in the hotel. Very convenient!

This product was recommended by a physical therapist for my 89 year old mother. It''s great, light weight, small size, stable and good for leg and arm exercises. My mother enjoys using it.

Excellent product for knee rehab and light exercise. Nice radius of rotation unlike some that are tricycle-like. Doesn''t move on the hardwood floors or the carpeting. Tension is responsive. Solid; nothing flimsy about it. The pedaling action can be a bit sticky at times with an occational clicking noise, otherwise it is close to ideal.

Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with Handles

Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with HandlesI have the Stott chair and the Stott SPX reformer, and I adore both of them. The chair was my first purchase, because it was less expensive and required less room. When I want a hardcore Pilates workout, I choose the chair. Because there is less room for support (the seat versus the bed of the reformer), the chair requires more core strength for correct execution of the practice. Even the footwork is harder on the chair! I would not get a chair without having had formal Pilates apparatus training. If you have had reformer or chair lessons, though, this is a great piece of home equipment.

After breaking the Malibu Pilates chair spring, I decided to upgrade to a real Pilates Chair. And the Stott Pilates is that and more. It''s solid. You have to assemble it, but with patience you can assemble it perfectly in about an hour. There are four big springs (one heavy and one light for each foot platform. The vinyl padding is quite comfortable and thick. The large rectangular shaped pads for the foot pedals are excellent. This is an excellent piece of commercial quality gym equipment that will provide excellent muscular and aerobic conditioning. It comes with the Essential and Intermediate video that is good! I would have given it five stars, but it''s not simple to change from split pedals to one pedal easily. But I think that it''s probably better to keep the pedals split as then you can learn to balance out your muscles better since you would have to move the pedals at the same rate. I think the tension with the springs is very good and the movement is silent and smooth. Overall, this is an excellent, versatile, piece of gym equipment where you can do a variety of exercises to strengthen your entire body. And the product will last a long time! You get what you pay for! However, the Malibu Pilates to start out can be a very good program, too.

Buy Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with Handles Now

The finest design and construction. Highest quality materials. Built to last. Amazingly versatile. As others mention, it is more challenging for some exercises than the reformer, but it is great for those wanting sitting or standing up exercises. Fits in a small space.

While Stott offers many excellent video & written materials to support the stability chair, I highly recommend a teacher -at least at first, and then an occasional checkup.

It''s not about getting old! Keep moving with functional exercises. It is therapy. Or, if you''re an athlete, add this to your training and take your performance to a higher level.

The Split-Pedal Chair is a fabulous piece of equipment! It gives an excellent workout and there are so many exercises that can be done on the Chair. Lots of options; standing, sitting, side-lying, kneeling, locked pedal, split pedal, etc. I love the intensity of my workouts on the Chair!! It''s also compact and easy to move. Try the STOTT PILATES dvd''s as well for the Chair, they will give you a great workout and assist in proper form.

Clients come in excitedly asking for "...the exercise on that chair that makes me sweat!" That could be a good many, but I know their favorites! The beauty of this product is it''s unassuming compact size with substantial build. This piece is the perfect way to challenge an athlete who wants to climb hills or ski them faster; amazing for training proper knee & hip tracking and ankle strengthening; excellent for exercises where the client can support their own body weight for strength & endurance (think gymnastics!). Splitting the pedal allows for "unilateral," work or where imbalances in sides are discovered. Splitting the pedal gives the client and instructor so many options, including ABDOMINAL work! Side plane (laying on your side or working limbs out to side) are extremely beneficial and abundant on this piece. The ability to quickly adjust spring tension and handle height (or removal) gives versatility to instructors and clients alike. An indispensable part of any studio, in a home or professional setting.

Simtec Fun Slides Carpet Skates (Silver)

Simtec Fun Slides Carpet Skates - SilverI am not sure why these slides didn''t work for one reviewer, but it might have been her carpet. We have three different kinds of carpet at our house: Patterned berber, flat berber, and plush carpet. Surprisingly, the FunSlides worked much better on the plush carpet. I figured the flat berber would work best, but nope. The slides still slid around on berber, and berber is actually a good carpet for a non-skating child to start on. But... the fluffy, fuzzy, plush carpet works best. Also, the heavier the child, the better the slide (to a point--an obese child might end up smashing down the carpet too much for them to work).

We were snowed in for a long time here. The kids had fun indoors with this product. I used them and they really worked my thighs--I could really feel it.

Now, these don''t feel like regular skates, so if you are expecting that, you''ll be disappointed. It feels like socks on a just-waxed floor, or close to it. If you don''t like them, you''re not out of much money. Or you can buy the track to skate on and skip the carpet altogether.

Great way to get the kids working up a sweat indoors. My son got a pair and then we had to get another pair for his younger brother so they could skate together. We also bought a sets as birthday gifts for some friends that are really into hockey and they LOVE them. Great unique item.

Bought these for an in-office "Winter Olympics" event. We had grown adults running around the carpeted floor, sliding around in events. For example, The Luge: one associate sits in a rolling chair while another, with the skates on, tries to push the chair down a straight hallway. Very hilarious to watch since the skates afford very little push initially. Looks like someone is running in place until they finally get moving.

These would probably be real good for kids if you have plenty of carpet. If they are safe kiddos, they will have lots of fun.

Wasn''t too sure what i was going to get and not impressed with what I got either. was hoping I could workout in this but the fabric is cheap so probably only wear this doing very light stuff. I usually wear a small (6) but this small wasn''t the fit I quite like. Wasn''t quite as fitted as I wanted. But it has good length. SO if you don''t want anything too tight and gives you tummy room, I''d say this shirt would be good for you. Still not a fan of such high polyester in my shirts (92%) the 8% is spandex. This is my second spinervals dvd. While I am in no way claiming to be a pro or experienced rider, I am not a beginner. The naming is misleading. It was just too easy. The dvd is for beginner to intermediate. Even when you are doing the high cadence sets the gear ratio is not hard enough to get my heart rate up close to i. The hardest part is a pyramid set. I am now using this dvd as my recovery day exercise.

I am much more a fan of Suffer-o-rama. I have been doing this DVD for the past winter season, and I still get my butt kicked every single time. Plus the "scenery" on the tempo exercises is not too bad either.

By using the Spinerval Cycling DVDs, I have increased my endurance and fitness level significantly. I particulary like the Cycling with Iron Girl. Couch Troy is friendly yet motivating and I am never bored. I alternate the Spinerval DVDs with the virtual riding DVDs by Bike-O-Vision. This combination has really been a plus in my training routine.

Weider Push Up Stands

Weider Push Up StandsThe good thing about these Weider push-up stands is the angled bar, which feels better doing regular push-ups than a straight bar. This is also very helpful if you are doing easy push-ups on your knees.

Unfortunately, they are only fair quality, and don''t seem very durable. While the bars are steel tubing, the bases are actually just hollow black and gray plastic shells. If you weigh over two hundred pounds, I think the bases might crack after a while, especially where the ends of the steel tubes press into the plastic. The bases are also smooth on the bottom with no gripping surface, so the hard plastic surface will slide on a smooth floor. They are O.K. on carpeting or a gym mat.

The foam pads on the steel tubes are not dense, so they don''t give much cushioning for your hands. It helps to use padded weightlifting gloves.

The problem is that the stands I got didn''t fit together properly because of design and quality control problems.

The stands had deep grinding marks inside the holes in two of the bases, where the manufacturer apparently tried to correct moulding problems in the plastic. I initially thought that the stands had been used, but the replacement set I received was just like the first.

To assemble the stands, you need to push the ends of the steel bars into the plastic bases and secure them with threaded T-screws that thread into the bars. However none of the holes lined up properly on mine, so the shoulders of the T-screws wouldn''t fit into the holes in the bases. I was eventually able to get the second set of stands put together by filing down the ends of the bars slightly. You also need to use some grease on the bars to get them to slide in or they shear off the plastic gripping ribs moulded inside the holes.

All this may have just have been quality control problems in one lot, so you can take a chance if the price is low and you just want some light duty stands.

Dont buy these. They are garbage!!! They have nothing on the bases to keep them from sliding!!! The grey plastice you see on the bases falls off constantly. VERY LOW QUALITY PRODUCT!!!

If you are looking for the cheapest efficient pushup bars, then you have considered the right ones. These pushup bars can handle 300 lbs, which is what i started out at in january 2012. I''ve since then lost weight, I am at 220, and these pushup bars are still going strong since January. I use them with p90x, and they have yet to let me down. Only reason it gets a 4 star rating is that it slides on hard floors, they have plastic bases, and they aren''t that aesthetically pleasing. Monday is chest and back again, and these bars will still hold up when I use them then. If they break I will revise my review, but I don''t see that happening anytime soon.

I purchased these (actually got the wrong item) after getting wrist problems doing regular push-ups. Overall, i''d say these are pretty good. I like the angle to the bar also and a few weeks of these and my wrists feel good even on the floor again. The construction is overall good with the steel tube and the plastic is adequate. The only drawback is the base is slippy. I tried these on a wooden floor and almost ate wood. They work fine with a yoga/exercise mat or carpet under them

I purchased these as my first set of push up bars. I have wrist issues and was unable to do push ups using the ground as the base. I have to say I am highly satisfied with the product. I only use them on carpeting so I can''t comment about hardwood floors but I used them for P90X and they worked flawlessly. True, it took a little to put them together but they haven''t failed me yet and I''ve used them (on average every other day) for the last 3-4 months. They were $8.00 when I purchased them and I am still happy with money spent. To compare, I am only about 145 lbs so I also cannot comment about their durability in the 200lb range.

Suzanne Somers Toning System Featuring Thighmaster Gold and Thighmaster LBX

Suzanne Somers Toning System Featuring Thighmaster Gold and Thighmaster LBXI received the Suzanne Somers Toning System a few days ago and have used it each day since then. I am very pleased with the results so far. I am glad that I purchased the complete package with both the Thighmaster Gold and Thighmaster LBX, as well as the instruction booklet and CD. My muscles are getting a great workout and I feel a little bit closer to my fitness goals each day.

After many years of hype about this and the results I finally purchased this to tone the inner thighs. I use both the Thighmaster Gold and Thighmaster LBX a minimimum of five times a week, yet I barely see results. The concept seems great, I can feel the muscle tighten, but did not see results. On the third week I began adding some of my own exercises for legs including inner thighs and hips. There are a number of exercises with the Thighmaster Gold video for upper body, and still saw very little if any results. After week three I measured and saw some results with inches lost. If you''re looking for what this product advertises, I would suggest saving your money, do some leg lifts, and invest in some inexpensive hand weights at Target. The only plus is that if you get creative with this product you can reach other hard to reach muscles in the back and lower abs that help a little. If you''re a gym rat, then keep your membeship and go to the gym. The product is okay, but for the most part there are other alternatives. Incidentally, I do more reps on this equipment than anything mentioned in the manual or dvd. There are statements that Ms. Somers does fifty reps every night before she goes to bed. I do about 100 daily still with little result. The product is just okay, but I do not think it does as advertised.

I''m a 53-year old male who uses this system alongside with my Bowflex, there are 10 different workouts for these two devices but I focus on one for each... I use the thigh toner in conjunction with my Bowflex to work on my inner thighs 50x per day, and use the butt blaster on the floor doing side leg lifts 50x per day... It''s a fabulous product and a great purchase, you''ll get great results especially if your consistent daily with your workouts... most of my workout is the Bowflex but these devices are great in their "gadget" role

TKO Heavy Bag Wall Mount

TKO Heavy Bag Wall MountThis mount works great for what it is. Please be aware that for $70 you are not going to get super strength or sealed ball bearings. However it hangs my 100lb heavy bag and tolerates my punching and kicking just fine, and when I need the space it swings the bag out of the way just as advertised. Is a good product at a good price.

Mounting: I would have to seriously question the intelegence of someone that would try to mount this straight to a sheetrock wall. To stand up to a swinging 100lb bag is going to require some re-enforcement. Get a four foot 2x10 from your local lumber store and cut two 20 inch long pieces. Position the supports so that the TKO (top and bottom) brackets will be centered on the wood. This means the outside holes will line up verticly between the screws that mount the wood to the wall. Mount these supports to the wall studs with four 3/8" x 4" lag screws and washers per board. You should have about 2" of wood extended beyond the wall studs and screws for strength. Mount the TKO with 3/8" x 4" lag screws in the outside holes and 3/8" x 2" lag screws (and washers) in the inside holes. You will want to pre-drill all these holes so you are not splitting the wood. This is how I did it, and my TKO mount does NOT flex at all.

I have been looking for a convienient way to hang my 100lb heavy bag. This mount is very sturdy, I used concrete anchors and hung it on my basement wall. I would bet that it could hold well over 100lbs. I think that limitation is based on hanging it on normal 2x4 wall studs.

Overall great product, but caution it doesn''t come with bolts/screws to hang it, you have to visit your local hardware store for that stuff.

Then when your all done hitting the bag you can just swing it out of the way.

This product works great. I was worried after reading some of the other reviews, but after I installed it, I no longer have any concerns. First of all, if you install this into studs and it rips out of the wall, you either didn''t install it into studs, or you have bad wood. Either way, it''s not the fault of this product. I was lucky because I put it in my garage and the studs are exposed, but a simple $8 stud finder from the store should help you put it in the right place. I also put some 4x4 between the studs going horizontally behind the two bars for added support, but I didn''t really feel that this was necessary. I also liked how it locked into place in both the storage mode and use mode using a simple spring pull pin.

There were some things I didn''t like though. It doesn''t come with the bolts to install into the wall. You have to wait for it to arrive, then go to Home Depot and buy the proper lag bolts (I think they were 1/2 or 5/8, I don''t remember. I wouldn''t go smaller than 2.5 inches long). Then, you have to drill holes in the wall (make sure the holes are significantly smaller than the lag bolts, or your stand will just fall out of the wall). Then put the lag bolts in the hole. It''s simple to install and fast. Secondly, I would have liked to have a third support bar above the the arm that holds the bag. The more support the better, especially when you are hanging something around 100 lbs that is going to have force tugging it in different directions. Also, I didn''t like how there are extra holes that don''t line up with studs. The two support bars have two holes on either side that go into studs, and then there are two more on either side of the rotating arm. These would just go into drywall or nothing and I don''t think they would provide any additional support, just leave holes in your wall. Like I said, what I did was put a couple 4x4s along the back of the support bars and then I could drill some more lag bolts into the wall into my new makeshift studs, but that would only work if your studs are exposed, which in most cases, they are probably not.

Bottom line, it''s a great product and a great price. I would recommend it to anyone. It''s certainly better than those stands. With the stands, you can''t circle the bag as much, which is crucial.

So far this unit has held up well; however, I noticed that they sell a better unit for about $10 more. The other unit is more robust and would have been a better option. This unit works well but you will need to mount it on boards to provide a more secure installation. I installed mine on (2) 2"x10"x68" boards and lag bolted the boards to the four studs that they crossed. In this way the weight is better distributed and no solely focused across just two studs.

PRODUCT

Pros:

8 holes for sturdy mounting.

Really strong. I don''t know what its made from steel or iron it is but its solid.

Lock in place with the bag sticking straight out or against the wall for storage.

Top swivel works well.

Perfect distance from the wall.

Height adjustable.

Cons:

None really that I can think of. This product is exactly what I wanted.

INSTALLATION

I mounted this in the basement on the concrete wall. I drilled holes and used blue concrete screws and washers.

First, I measured the distance between the two outer holes on the top row of the bracket.

Second, I marked the corresponding distances on the wall(the distance that i measured previously between two bracket holes) where I wanted the bracket.

Third, I drilled the holes and mounted the bracket using 2 screws.

Fourth, With the bracket in place I used the remaining holes in the bracket as a guide for drilling the holes because drilling in to concrete is not easy. If you choose to drill all 8 holes before you mount the bracket it will be difficult to ensure that the holes line up with the bracket correctly because basement walls are not perfectly smooth. (You will see what I mean once you start drilling.)

In Lowes or Home Depot when you purchase the screws... look at the package that the screws come in. It says what size drill bit you need. I bought the drill bit that they recommend and it worked perfectly. There are a few different options when purchasing the screws in terms of the amount of weight each size screw will hold. I used 8 screws that will hold 75 lbs. I know that the bag and bracket weigh less than 600 lbs. There must be some crazy physics equation to calculate how much support is necessary to hold a heavy bag when punched but I do not know what it is. I figured that it was less than 600 lbs. and I was correct. To fasten the screws I used a wrachet. Be careful not to over tighten the screws because you can snap the head off it. In addition, if you only have a cordless drill you will burn through the battery in a matter of minutes. I recommend a hammer drill with a cord and at the very least a regular drill with a cord. I used three cordless drills so I could charge the batteries two drills of while continuing to drill. I had mounted my 100 lbs. heavy bag on the floor joists from the basement and when I hit it was extremely loud. Other than the chains rattling and the impact from punching there is no noise or vibrations that are felt throughout the rest of the house so I highly recommend hanging the bracket from concrete if possible. I added two of my own images to the product listing.

UPDATE

After about 1 year this bracket is still working perfectly. I am very happy with the method I used to install the bracket.

Stamina Aerobic Step

Stamina Aerobic StepI was looking for a step for home to create and practice choreography for classes. This one is smaller that a standard step, and not quite as stable. It works fine for my purposes, but if I want to do an all out step workout, it won''t cut it.

The smaller size is good for storage, though. And it''s significantly less expensive than most other steps.

This step is great for home-use. It''s not as wide as the steps used in health clubs but the stepping surface is larger than most home-steps, and is very sturdy. I used to teach hard-core step classes in my younger days and I still jump around on my step when I workout. I have broken 2 other brands (can''t remember which ones they were), but this one is still keeping up with me!

Gymnastics Arabesque T-Shirt

Gymnastics Arabesque Girls 6/6X Black MultiThe quality of the t-shirt was good, but I was disappointed that the purple and pink accents were very hard to see. To me, the color or material of the detail should be strong enough to be seen from a distance. The shirt was dull and just ok. Fortunately for me, my niece is only 3 and she didn''t complain:)

I realize this shirt is designed to be worn while practicing, but it is sized extremely small. The detail on the front is beautiful. The fabric is soft and a bit thin. I''m happy with the tee, but wished I had ordered a bigger size.

Yukon Fitness Ab Crunch Machine ACM-190

Yukon Fitness Ab Crunch Machine ACM-190Nice product, very well made. It was very easy to assemble, took about an hour. I''ve been doing crunches on the floor for months w/an assist type machine. I have felt no burn after until I started using the Ab Crunch machine. I know I will get results. I would reccomd this over all the trendy gimmick type machines out there that you would NEVER see in a gym. This machine is definetly gym quality at an affordable price.

This ab machine works good but is very wobbly and not very sturdy. I would definitely buy this machine but only for about $150 it is really worth half of its value. I am not complaining about the workout becuz like I said it does it''s job but when it comes to physical value with sturdiness etc. after putting it together and trying it out it will tip on someone who is bigger. Maybe more ideal for a women. I can''t stress enough.. Buy this machine for a good ab workout but don''t pay $300 it''s just not worth that kind of money.

I bought this Ab crunch and to my greatest dissapointment, I could not fix it without additional tools unlike other exercise equipment I bought at the same time. After many trials, I got it fixed just to discover it is not stable due to one of the feet not touching the ground. For a product of this price, the manufacturers should have paid more attention to detail. Please use with care to avoid accidents.

Health Mark 60-Inch Portable Ballet Stretch Barre

Health Mark 60-Inch Portable Ballet Stretch BarreI love this barre. I use it for Callanetics, Lotte Berk, Bar Method, Physique 57 and Barre 3. I had used chairs for these workouts before, but they just weren''t sturdy enough or the right height. This barre is adjustable height-wise, and strong enough to support my body weight when I''ve been hanging on for dear life during a difficult workout. I highly recommend this. Oh, one thing that may be problematic for some: this is pretty much a permanent barre so make sure you have the room. You can''t fold or store it under a bed or in a closet unless you take it apart.

It seemed like I was shipped an item that was sent to someone else. Screws were stripped and the middle part of the bar took FOREVER to align and screw together correctly. The bar is very stable once you actually get it together.

I purchased the Health Mark 60-inch Portable Ballet Stretch Barre to use while I am doing the Pure Barre routines and I love it. When I received my barre it had a lot of scratches and dings due to poor packaging and I notify Health Mark company and they shipped me new replacement parts with out a lot of drama. Their customer service is great. I would have given this item 5 stars but since it was shipped with minor damages and I had to wait for replacement parts, I am giving it four stars. Also, I am able to move this barre to different rooms in my house without taking it a part or any difficulties. I love, love, love this barre.
