Good fitness product for basic strengthening/toning exercises. Easy to pack and travel with for workouts on the go. My wife uses these with some of the Wii fitness products/games (Wii Fitness/EA Sports Active), which provides her with a higher level of difficulty for some of the exercise movements. The bands are made of quality materials and the hand grips are comfortable for extended use. Quality product.

I''ve been using a Garmin Edge 800 for about 16 months now, so I''m pretty familiar w/ the functions, pros, cons and limitations. I''ve used the EDGE 810 for about 4 rides now... so far, so good

Overall, for an extra $50, I think this is a worth while upgrade. Although, you''d probably lose another $100 off retail reselling your old EDGE 800. So, if the you can swing the $150, do it. To me, the Best New Features I outlined are well worth the incremental costs... All you have to do is rationalize it by going out to ride some more!!!!

Best New Features!!

Wireless course uploads to the device and auto sync from mobile app to GarminConnect are the best new features. The thing I dreaded the most was taking the device off the bike to upload my ride or to download new courses.

Lack of page back/next buttons make screen seem larger. Larger fonts, stats, virtual partner and maps

GarminConnect mobile app allows you to track, share, upload and review your activities and courses

Pros:

Wireless course uploads to the device and auto sync from mobile app to GarminConnect are the best new features

Lack of page back/next buttons make screen seem larger. Larger fonts, stats, virtual partner and maps

GarminConnect mobile app allows you to track, share, upload and review your activities and courses

Text and numbers are more up-to-date looking, not the old DOS/Courier font block styles. Something as simple as this makes the device more

Same size as the EDGE 800, so you won''t have any surprises there.

Same 3 hard buttons (Power, Lap/Reset, Start/Stop) for an easy transition

New graphics make the 810 look a little more sharp. Nothing wrong with the old 800, but the 810 just has nice appeal and sets it apart from the outgoing device... But an onlooker would have to look close to see the differences. Color options would be nice

Wireless connectivity with the iPhone is a real nice to have. Altho, I do notice substantial battery drain on the iPhone when using the live tracking feature (bluetooth + data + mobile app = huge battery drain)... be sure to carry a spare charger or auxiliary battery for your mobile device if you go for long rides. Or, look at my note below for an alternative.

Gone are the page back/next buttons... so you don''t have to tap on the screen for the buttons to show up and scroll thru your training pages/maps. Just scroll like on your smart phone to go page back/next

Weather information?? meh... I can have it or not... I research my route and plan for weather conditions before going on a ride so this is neither a pro nor con... If you are the spur of the moment kind of rider, this might be handy

Cons:

If you have the City Navigator from your EDGE 800, IT WON''T WORK ON THE EDGE 810. You will need to buy a new SD Card with City Navigator. Once you insert the SD Card into an EDGE device, it pairs it with that SD card and you won''t be able to transfer it to another unit. There is no straight forward method, but, if you Google it, you can find ways to circumvent this. No reason to have to buy another map if you already bought one for the EDGE 800.

Somewhat disappointed that the resolution isn''t any better than the EDGE 800. But then again, its a small screen and majority of the time, I am on the page w/ my ride stats, so its not critical

No upgrade function to transfer all your previous settings.

Live tracking relies on cell signal to send the data... if you ride up in mountainous terrain or desolate areas, this feature may not be worth much to you

Notes:

Garmin site mentions a Virtual Racer, which is similar to the Virtual Partner, but I couldn''t find anything in the owners manual about it, nor have I figured out how to launch/set it from the device itself

If you want to transfer your old activities, routes or custom wallpapers, you can just copy/paste while its connected to your computer

Had 1 incident (in 16 months) with the EDGE 800 freezing during an 80-mile mapped route; No incidents after 4 rides with the EDGE 810, but 4 rides is not much to base this reliability assessment on

iPhone has an app called CylceMeter (offers live tracking via googlemaps) and it has incredible customization in terms of notifications, announcements, settings, voices, email notifications, reads facebook messages... All this, and it is surprisingly very battery conservative... I can go riding for about 6 hours w/ music on the entire time and still have 30-40% battery life left.... it has everything but an Android version

Wireless course uploads require you to create the course from the Garmin GarminConnect. I create, edit and share all my courses on RidewithGPS (check the site, add a www and a dot com). Faster and not as clumsy as the Garmin site, gives instant elevation stats, add custom course points (shows up on the EDGE)... lots of customization and flexibility

Happy with Garmin for year. Liked my 705; loved my 800, but completely disappointed with the 810.

If you used to the 800; don''t upgrade.

At least don''t upgrade yet (Firmware ver 2.2 as of January 2013).

The unit is VERY bad. It crash mid rides. It sometimes report wrong elevation. the new Bluetooth ability to upload the file fail 50% of the time (and it only work with Garmin connect... so no benefit for Strava or RideWithGPS, etc)

Few things are missing (that are just software because they are on the 800), like the HR graph field. the ability to use a course without navigation, TCX support, low battery alert.

You can see the endless complains in Garmin forums here: forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?362-Edge-810 (look at the Bugs topic).

I took out the Garmin Edge-810 for a thirty mile test ride today. As a owner of the Edge-800 I knew what to expect for general function, however, the menus have changed in this model as well as the overall layout is different. As for the new function, they are welcome and well worth the effort of selling my 800 to buy the 810. The connection to a iPhone is very easy to establish and is very convenient to upload the rides eliminating the required USB connection on the 800. I wish Garmin would have incorporated a higher resolution display, the current display is grainy. Overall I like the new unit.

Want Garmin Edge 810 GPS Unit with Heart Rate Monitor and Speed/Cadence Sensor Discount?

Was a little worried about buying this unit given some of the moderate reviews I had read and the price associated. I''m in a couple hundred miles thus far and I would give it high marks. Is it hard to read in daylight? It can be but once I mounted it on the extension bar so that it was in front of the handle bars and thus could adjust its angle I had no problems (mounting it on the stem was problematic because the angle caused more glare in direct sunlight) so in this case the concern is valid, but easily mitigated by the mounting approach at least for me.

Is it easy to use? Yes, though it takes handful of rides to figure out some of this nuances. Once you get it configured and setup it has been a breeze to the point where I don''t really think about it I just ride and then bring it in for charging, the wireless upload works like a champ and I never even think about it happening. I''ve used the device with heavy gloves and had no problem operating the device a significant improvement over a smart phone which requires me to pull off my gloves in order to use.

Is it easy to setup? Configuring the screens to suite your personal taste isn''t as easy / straightforward as an iPhone but with less than an hour of playing around with it I had it about perfect (google garmin edge 800 and there are numerous excellent sites that make this process simple). There are a wide variety of data points/measures that can be added to your display and it took me a couple times of trial and error to figure out which measures where truly useful to me and how easy it was to read a customized screen with anywhere from 3 10 attributes being shown (10 is a bit of a challenge with my eyesight).

Concerns on battery life? I can see where you could set this up to drain the battery faster than you would like, but the out of the box setting for me has shown no problems thus far. I would imagine a 100-150 mile ride wouldn''t be a problem. I have a 200 mile ride coming up over the summar and can see where that might be a challenge (15+ hours) but between now and then will be experimenting with ways to extended battery life. If the advertised capacity is true, it won''t be a problem and thus far I feel pretty good that will prove true.

Is it over-priced? Yes without question, but it won''t be the first time I over-spent for my riding and I have yet to regret it (including this purchase)

Would it be nicer if it had a higher resolution screen? Yes but the point for me is the ride and not the computer, you don''t spend that much time looking at the display/maps so it is more than adequate for the job.

Key selling points for me (which have proven true thus far). Ability to easily move from bike to bike without having to reconfigure is outstanding. Ability to pace myself against a virtual training partner or target pace outstanding. Ability to store/recall saved rides outstanding. Map navigation works excellent and is directly analogous to that found on automobile GPS units. Would highly recommend going to the 810 instead of the 510 if you anticipate much riding on unknown /unfamiliar courses or want to preserve the ability to break off on a longer ride and get home safely.

Its a fair criticism to say that many people with these Garmins also carry a smart-phone and I do as well. However twice last year, the battery on my iphone gave out while trying to use it as a bike computer even with a Mophie case which extends the battery life (at the cost of weight). I now carry the phone but its for emergency purposes and do not use it as a GPS device as I''ve gotten more than comfortable with the Garmin for that purpose.

My recommendation would be to buy it if you are more of a serious rider and want/need navigation capabilities.

So I''ll preface this with the statement that Garmin is the sole option if you want GPS navigation with cycling in mind. no one challenges them.....YET... Overall this unit works (excluding the many bugs and issues being reported) and it works better then anything else you can find on the market today. It IS the gold standard... while I will say that standard is rather weak. At the cost of this thing is totally overpriced.

You would be out of your mind to upgrade from the 800 to the 810... you essentially get nothing of value new. same garbage screen, same buttons, same case, same mount, same functionality.

What you do get is one thing. a Bluetooth feature designed to drain your iPhone/Android battery while providing near-useless functionality to auto-upload your rides to Garmin Connects website which very few cyclists use. Most use Strava or RideWithGPS. You get a silly view of what the current weather is in case you believe your own eyes are lying to you.

That about sums this thing up. This is a perfect example of where a company owns an entire market segment and choose to make no progress since no one is challenging them. Garmin support is poor on their best days and bugs go unresolved for years and across generations of devices. They simply do not care.

So I''ll return this, keep my Edge 800 and I will be happy with the 800 knowing there''s nothing else out there.

Anyone coming from an 800 don''t waste your time it''s IDENTICAL. If you stuck 1000 Garmin 800 users in a room and asked them to pick one thing they would like to see improved... they would all tell you. Put a better screen on it, and some extra battery life would be nice. Garmin went with using the same 1970''s etcher-sketch screen and decided to actually reduce battery life... just goes to show how much they listen to the customer or care about their market segment.

I''m not sure I can even justify or recommend the 810 over the 800 to first-time GPS buyers... it''s NOT worth $50.00 compared to the 800. and unless you really need visual map navigation, just get the lower Garmin line and pocket hundreds.

Overall SUPER disappointed in Garmin. And most likely this will be the last edge unit as this technology will be obsolete in a year. we should be seeing some challenges coming soon when someone makes a Bluetooth 4.0 set of sensors or figures out a good universal Ant+ phone adapter... Then it''s just a iPhone/Android applications taking advantage...which some already do!

If you don''t need a cycling GPS this season and you own a smart phone... wait, the Garmin''s days are numbered... especially since they offer no improvements in the past 5 years.

Ultimate Sandbag Training: Strength Water Package

Ultimate Sandbag Training: Strength Water PackageI was a competitive Taekwondo player. After two knee injuries, and realizing that I''m not Olympic-level I''ve decided to quit. Nevertheless, I love to keep myself in great shape.

This toy allows you to do all sorts of spiraling motions which strengthen muscles you never were aware of. Certain exercises (e.g Cyclone, one-arm shouldering) simulate wrestling well. I loved Judo, but at a certain stage your body gets tired of getting thrown around, you get injured etc. When I exercise with this sandbag filled with water, I''m feeling I''m back in my Judo dojo.

It''s convenient, because you can travel with it and you can store it in the house quite inconspicuously. I''m living with my fiancee, and I''m more limited with the amount of fitness equipment I can have at home than what I''m used to. This one toy takes care of my comprehensive workout. I complement it with scorpion and spiderman pushups, as well as the iron gym for pullups, some core exercises on the floor, and I''m done.

One note it comes with a DVD. I''ve never watched it. Instead, I''ve youtubed "MMA sandbag workout" or "MMA sandbag training". For example (you''ll want to mute your sound before you watch this)

Very well made product.

I bought this particular sandbag with the option of filling it with water but so far I''ve only used it with sand thinking that would be easier to get started with.

At first doing anything felt awkward but after using it every day for a month I am getting the hang of it and feel much stronger. I''m not used to working with weights and started with it only half-full and am adding more sand every week.

I enjoy carrying it over my shoulders every morning up the steps next to our house.

I may switch to water eventually but for now I like the way it feels with sand.

SPRI Dual Grip Xerball Exercise Medicine Ball

SPRI Xerball 12-Pound Medicine BallI just received the SPRI Dual Grip Xerball Exercise Medicine Ball due to high reviews on their line of products. I am disappointed that the handle hole size is rather small. I am a 5''5 women, 125 lb so my hands are not big but I am returning the ball as the Coreball I use at the gym is a better fit for me & especially if my husband ever used it. Also NOTE I ordered the 8lb which states it is purple FYI it arrived black not a big deal but nevertheless it wasn''t what I ordered.

Pilates Ball with DVD By Daniel Loigerot

Pilates Ball with DVD By Daniel LoigerotI truly believe that the core challenge with the dlfit ball DVD is the best possible way to strengthen and tone muscle, improve posture and keep it that way, greater flexibility and release tension which in turn increases cardiovascular health, well being and a healthier body.

Daniel L.

This was a Birthday gift for me and the excellent quality of the products both the DL FIT ball and DVD have made them a must-have! I have purchased the other items and found them really good. The hassle-free feature of the ball, in terms of not needing constant inflation, or convenient size, makes it great to travel with.

This is the best exercise video I have tried to date. As a yoga

practitioner of many years, I am relatively new to Pilates. Daniel

Loigerot is obviously a pro and I am wildly enthusiastic about what I am

learning. I love Daniel''s gentle, encouraging voice and approach -

something I did NOT expect from a Pilates instructor. The size and density of the DL FIT Pilates Ball is different from anything I''ve encountered before, and it''s highly effective. If I lie on the ball and roll it down both sides of my spine, it parallels a deep tissue massage! At age 57, my core strength has improved leaps and bounds...and I''m enjoying myself at the same time. Daniel reminds me of my favorite yoga teacher. He transcends the drill of routine exercise and elevates the practice of his brand of Pilates to a pleasurable art form. No doubt I''ll keep coming back for more!

The first word that comes to my mind is amazing. I was having lower back pain and this ball was one of my answers to keeping my back healthy. I had tried other products like the foam rollers and the TP massage but they do not compare to the ball (quality or price wise). It is hard yet soft at the same time, this ball can massage your muscles without feeling like you are rolling on a bowling ball. Plus, the DVD is informative, clear, and has a lot of great tips.

It is the best for releasing the muscle tension. Now, it''s the only product that I will use.

This is one of the best gifts that I ever got.

The DVD is clear, easy to follow. When I travel or cannot make it to my Pilates lesson, I do the sets of exercises that are simple and yet challenging. It does wonder for my body but above all, short of a total body massage, it is the best thing for muscles aches and body tension.

If you travel or suffer of back pain, please try this and be amazed!!

Spinervals Ultimate Interval Training - DVD 5 Pack

Spinervals Ultimate Interval Training - DVD 5 PackGreat workouts! Since adding these short intense workouts to my weekly routine I can see the difference! Spinervals is a great program!

These are all decent workouts, but I agree with the reviewer who said the first DVD is almost unwatchable. They''re sitting around a lake, there''s about 25 people on the team (and they announce every last one of them by name and profession, which I found both comical and maddening), and it looks fuzzy and jumpy like the thing was shot with an early 90''s camcorder. I don''t want to be too picky, but if you''re paying a bundled rate for five DVDs and one of them is bad, you''re not getting a great deal.

The second DVD is OK the team''s sitting around a brew pub (!) and the quality is not as bad as the first, but still not great. The final three DVDs are better.

I would recommend just buying the individual workouts you want. I bought this collection after doing "Lean and Mean," which I thought was terrific. None of the DVDs in this set are as professionally done as that one.

Overall the dvd quality and packaging look cheap and low quality. The drills are very good and you can notice in your heart rate and the cadence when you are riding outside. I recommend this series is thought, but you can see the results in the road.

Altus Athletic 2-in-1 Boxercise Combo Weighted Gloves and Speed Jump Rope

Altus Athletic 2-in-1 Boxercise Combo Weighted Gloves and Speed Jump RopeThese gloves and jump rope were exactly what I was hoping for. I got them mainly for the gloves, and I use them when I play a Wii cardio boxing game. The velcro is strong and the gloves do not move around on your hand when you punch. I was worried the jump rope might not fit me, as a length was not given, however I was pleased to discover that it was the perfect size for my height (I am 5''6").

I recommend this set and would buy it again.

It''s not designed very well. I got these for Turbo kick boxing. I also have the wrist waits w/ the thumb holder but those become loose so I got these because the weights are at the back of your hand and there''s finger holders so it won''t slide. Great concept EXCEPT the Velcro part is pretty cheap material and the placement is not at your wrist but at the bottom of your palm. It''s pretty annoying, you''ll have to hold a fist at all times for it sort of not slide. It works... but I''ll be looking for better ones.

I have used these once a week for the past six months. At the beginning they fit very well. Overtime, they became very stretched out and began to rub on my knuckles. The sand gathers towards the outside pocket of the glove, making the weight uneven. The Velcro has ripped; I tried to sew the small tear, which held for a while, but it only ripped more several weeks later. I will be throwing them away and looking for another brand. Seems like they should last more than 6 months.

I think the product lives up to its description. Once you put the gloves on correctly, they don''t move around. I use these gloves with cardio kickboxing and they are perfect. The jump rope is very sturdy, I''m 5 6, and it has been perfect for me. Great investment!

I bought the men''s and women''s version of this shirt and we both love it. For an evening run, its bright enough to be seen and has "360 degrees of 3M(tm) Scotchlite(tm) retroreflectivity" which means there''s shiny reflective areas throughout shirt. For a daytime run, its not so bright you look "clownish".

Besides the cut, the difference is the women''s shirt has a small pocket on the left shoulder to hold a SMALL MP3 player or keys. Nothing on the men''s shirt. This made me responsible for keeping up with the car keys.

Living in Michigan, we''ve worn ours as recent as Dec 6 (low to mid 30s) and only wearing a thermal top or base layer underneath it. Its lightweight, comfortable, and manages to keep us warm. I love the 1/2 zipper so I can dump heat when I get too hot on a run. He likes the fit mainly. He has muscular and long arms and said the thumb holes were comfortable, though I noticed he didn''t keep his thumb in them the entire time he wore it.

I''m a shorty, only 5''1", so maybe I''m just shorter than petite size lengths are these days, but these were still really long. I was walking on them to be exact. XMark Fitness Full Commercial Powerbase Weight Assisted Pull-Up StationI assembled this unit last night and for $700 it is a pretty solid unit. The unit is very well built; clean welds, super beefy steel, completely assembled I think this thing easily weighs in over 200 pounds. The BowFlex 3.1 bench is a complete joke compared to the quality of this build. I love the versatility of the workouts you can get from this power tower. The assisted dips and pull ups is the best functionality I''ve seen yet in any home gym. Super glad I bought this unit. My major complaint is, if you need more assistance with your pullups and dips, you cannot purchase additional rubber bands, and there is no other way to counter balance the unit. Otherwise, it is a nice piece of equipment.

FreeForm Hideaway Home Gym

FreeForm Hideaway Home GymReview: I have had to exercise most of my 59-year-old life because of scoliosis in my spine. I have been able to maintain flexibility in back in this way. I look constantly for the "ultimate home gym". Of course, it isn''t out there yet. I have had two Bowflex, numerous free weight and body weight gyms. I have used elastic cord machines and rubber band machines as well. I usually never give a review, but the FreeForm Hideaway Gym is one of the best, most efficient pieces of equipment I have ever owned. The FreeForm squat exercise is unique and probably the safest I''ve seen. I can move through eleven exercises within minutes and experience probably the best, real "cardio-strength" workout I have ever had on a home gym. I love the FreeForm Hideaway Gym. Is it the "ultimate home gym"? All I know is that I will never need to buy another home gym.

There is one caveat. "Never dismount the FreeForm when you have tension on the bands." The machine will slide. That should be a warning that comes with the gym.

I spent some time looking around on the internet for a compact home gym. We''ve all seen the advertisements for all kinds of stuff in this field including Bowflex, etc. Well, I came across this gym on Amazon here and decided for the price (Yay Amazon! You were the best deal anywhere and free second day shipping to boot!) it was a worthy gamble.

The video that the inventor of the product produced, is only a few minutes, but was interesting. The guy, Jim Deola is a former bodybuilder and a mechanical engineer. I like cool inventions and this seemed pretty cool. Watch the video here on Amazon or the official website and decide for yourself.

About the FreeForm: This gym fold very compact as the inventor states. Its great for someone who lives in a small apartment or just doesn''t have much room for gym stuff. Its very easy to setup and take back down. You basically only have 2 pins to deal with. Moving from one exercise to the next is very easy. The resistance bands do as they advertise. You''ll find you had muscles you never knew you had. The resistance bands supposedly will last for 10 years under normal household use. The gym itself is fairly heavy, and I recommend you get help getting it in your home initially. Once you have the wheels attached to the front, it is easy to move around(the wheel assembly doesn''t come attached, you have to do that when you get it out of the box. Its easy, with just two bolts and the supplied allen wrench). The gym can slide under beds out of the way, but only if you have a full size or bigger bed. Its to big for twin size beds. I prop mine against the wall, and it seems to do fine. All the weight of the machine in is in the center and towards the bottom, so it won''t slide away from the wall on the wheels there. The whole thing feels solid enough. There are some annoying things about it though. The resistance bands are made of rubber, and therefore have a strong odor, that hopefully will wear off. Some people may not be bother by such odors, but I am. Also the vinyl seat covers have a bit of odor as well. I use FaBreeze on them which seemed to help out a bit. You also will have to lubricate the contact points between the resistance bands and where they connect to prevent squeaking. Another thing I noticed was that the bars aren''t even in their motion. When facing the forward on the seat, the right bar makes a bit of a rough sound when moving it, because the lubrication isn''t quite enough, and so it is harder to move than the left one, which feels looser and lubricated properly, so you may have to get some grease, remove the arms (which is easy; the whole thing can be taken apart very easily), if you have that problem. Otherwise, its a great machine for the price.

You can do a lot of upper body exercises. Lower body exercises are more limited though. If you watch the product video, you will know what I am talking about. That might be a draw back. Its to bad they couldn''t incorporate a leg extension on the machine somehow, while retaining the compactness of it. Oh well. You have to make sacrifices to get something this compact. The alternative is a big, clunky thing like a Bowflex, which cost 2 to 3 times as much. Another thing you won''t get is training videos or anything else, like you do with Bowflex or probably some of the other home gyms out there. You will pretty much have to figure out your own routine and what works for you. For some reason, the manufacturer states there are "advanced workout videos available online" at their website, but I haven''t found anything. The website is very plain, and really doesn''t have much information on it. They really need to revamp it, and put out those videos they claim to have made (correct me if I am wrong about the workout videos).

What you get in the box: The machine with parts to finish assembly, a large chart with pictures and descriptions of some of the exercises you can do, a warranty paper you fill out and mail in or do online (you get a 5 year warranty) and assembly instructions. That''s it. No instructional videos or tips or anything else. But if you don''t care about any of that, then this for you. Its easy to use, safe and will at the very least give you a good cardio workout, and with time, build up your strength.

I hope this review was helpful. I like this product and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a compact gym. I doubt there is anything more compact, or at the very least that I am aware of. :)

I am a 69 year old woman who doesn''t understand all the technical/mechanical/etc... workings

that make one exercise machine better than another but I do know if something works for me. That

something has been the FreeForm Hideaway Home Gym. Throughout my early years I joined various gyms

and enjoyed working out in that environment at that time. Now at my age maintaining my weight and

keeping fit and flexible is even more important if I intend to remain active inspite of having to

deal with the pain and stiffness of arthritis and spinal deterioration in my lower back. Since

going to a gym was no longer appealing I began looking for a good exercise maching to use in the

privacy of my own home at my convenience. I became aware of the FreeForm Hideaway Gym through friends

and since they considered it an excellent home gym for my needs I checked it out for myself. I liked

the exercise demonstration and explanation of what muscles were being worked on during each position

given me. After trying some of the exercises myself I was sold on the machine and its price.

I''ve had my FreeForm Hideaway Gym for over a year now and I can tell you it is the very best

exercise equipment I have ever used. The exercise straps and bars move smoothly. That free flowing

movement is very important to me as is the ability to change resistance bands quickly and with little

interruption to my routine. The exercise chart that comes with the machine provides a good visual

guide for each position. I really appreciated having it to refer to especially beginning the exercises.

It has been easy for me to remain dedicated to my routine because the exercises do not take long to

complete and since I''m home I can, fold the machine flat, roll it out of sight, and get on with the

day''s chores and activities without any hassle-a really big plus.

One more thing I would like to mention is that this gym and the workout I do has not only helped

maintain my weight and flexibility, it has more importantly alleviated the lower back pain I suffered

with and doctored for, for years. The specific exercise prescribed for me by James Deola, the

inventor of the FreeForm Gym, initially reduced and then alleviated my back pain three months after

using the machine. I spent years going to one chiropractor after another, trying one treatment after

another, and spending lots of money for temporary relief. Consequently, I highly recommend this machine

to everyone, men and women alike, regardless of goals you hope to achieve. It is a sturdy, compact

machine which provides an outstanding workout. The levels of resistance experienced by changing the bands

will blow you away. You have to try it to believe it. The machine is a steal for the quality and price.

The Bottom Line

The Freeform Hideaway Gym is exactly what I needed, performs as advertised, provides a great workout and is very reasonably priced. But there are caveats that potential buyers should be aware of!

First, Some Context

The Hideaway Gym is not for everybody, so you need to understand my situation and why this gym was the perfect product for me. I''m in Phase 2 Cardio Rehab following a quintuple heart bypass earlier this year. I wanted a simple home gym to supplement my cardio workouts on my trusty, old Nordic Track (yes, it still works and still offers a great workout!) with strength development.

I''m not some muscle bound weight lifter (nor to I intend to become one!) so the fact that as some other reviewers noted, this gym is not for the guy doing 250 pound presses was of no concern to me. I do have limited space. Also, my exercise area is in my basement, so I did not like the idea of getting some mammoth machine down the stairs and assembled!

Delivery and Assembly

The Hideaway Gym comes in a flat box weighing just over 70 pounds, so it was relatively easy to get into position. (The box was rather low quality and was badly beaten up during the UPS delivery, but there seemed to be no damage to the machinery inside. But Freeform Gyms needs to take note I doubt they will, but that''s another concern I''ll get to momentarily!)

The gym was easy to assemble about 10 minutes! Probably 7 of those minutes were trying to understand the lousy assembly instructions. Another couple of minutes trying to use the enclosed flat spanner devices total rubbish! Use a socket set and/or ring spanners!

The Product

The Hideaway Gym is brilliantly and elegantly designed and works really well! Manufacturing quality is ok sturdy, but without the quality feel of the Nordic Track and other higher quality exercise machines. On the other hand, it is significantly cheaper than anything I''ve seen of equivalent capability (and I did a lot of online and live shopping research!) I''m sure it will last years, and there''s no obvious rough edges to cut yourself on (when you are on blood thinners, you obsess over details like that!)

The Pros

Works as advertised. Very easy to use; a good range of upper body exercises, a smaller range of lower body workouts. Some reviewers have noted insufficient gradation in the tension band settings. So far, I''ve not found this to be a problem. The exercises feel smooth and natural. The machine needs relatively little floor space, and can be flattened down to go under a bed. (Mine stays in its "ready to use" position.) Oh, and there''s a very good poster sized laminated sheet providing "how to''s" on the basic exercises in each of the 3 positions facing forward, facing in and standing.

The Cons

Overall, there is this "cheap" feel about the gym. I mentioned the thin cardboard packing box, which was clearly inadequate. I also mentioned the sparse instructions. For example, there''s a couple of spring clips in the box and absolutely no mention of them in the instructions (assembly or use). I eventually figured out where they go by looking closely at some of the photographs on the provided poster.

The promotion video mentions an included exercise video there was no such thing in my delivery package. The promotion video also shows the pull handles mounted in some way to the frame it looks like a Velcro mounting. No such mounting came with my gym, and that actually was a problem. When the handles simply fall free, you can''t easily reach them when in the exercise position. I sent a message to Freeform Gyms about the mystery spring clips, lack of means to attach the pull handles, and lack of promised video. So far, I''ve received no response! Even worse, when I tried to register for the warranty on their (very sparse) web site, I got a message that "the FormMail processing plan had expired!" It seems that the web site is no longer fully live, so I wonder if the vendor is live?

BTW, I bought a $2.99 Velcro strip from a local hobby shop and fashioned my own way to mount the pull handles to the frame, so that they are easy to reach when you are getting into the exercise positions. Works great!

Summary

It''s a great pity that James Design Co, Inc. and Freeform Gyms are letting themselves down so badly in the last 15% of the customer experience. They are falling down on the most basic service elements people have come to expect in today''s hyper-competitive economy. A brilliantly designed machine, well-made, but then poorly packaged, poorly documented, with no means of electronically registering the warranty, and no apparent interest in answering customer''s questions.

I am a 55 year old woman who has been working out (cardio and strength training) for over 20 years. I got bored with the gym and decided to set one up in my basement. I have now been using the FreeForm Home Gym for about a month and I am pretty happy with it. Used correctly, you can definitely get a good all-around workout. I have, however, noticed that your form makes a lot of difference, especially the position of your head and feet. You will get the most out of every exercise if you closely follow the photos that show you how to do each exercise. The machine is better for upper body, but I was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the lower body exercises as well. My legs are getting a decent workout. Also, the abdominal exercise is quite good. From my perspective, the things that would improve the machine are (1) more weight increments--the weights jump from 10 to 25 to 50 to 75--some smaller increments (like a 5 pound) would make it easier to increase weights; and (2) I sometimes have a hard time reaching the rope once I am in the seat, because I am short (5.1). Overall, though, I am very happy with it given the price, how easy it is use, its size, cost, and the quality of the workout you can get if you use it carefully.

Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym

Bowflex PR1000 Home GymI have been a personal fitness trainer for many years and at first I too was a skeptic about the whole resistance rod thing. I have read other reviews where people who bought this particular unit say that 210lbs is not enough weight to get a good work out.

I would suggest to those of you who think you need more weight than that to try slowing the motion of your reps on whatever exercise you are doing way, way down. Say for instance you are doing bicep curls: As you curl up, do so with a slow count of 8. At the bottom of the movement start the count at one, then SLOWY curl it up to the top of the movement ending on eight, then do the same on the way back down to the bottom of the movement to get the negative resistance, which makes each single rep more like two reps both positive and negative, up then down.

This will cause you to have to MUSCLE the weight up and down as opposed to using momentum. I would also suggest that you try working each muscle group to failure if you can handle it. This method can make 20lbs seem like 50 after just two sets if you do it correctly. Mind you, you will be so very soar, but in a good way and the results will no doubt satisfy.

This just arrived today. Took about 2 hours to assemble, but it''s pretty easy. I almost bought this from another site, because they were going to assemble it (would''ve been 200 extra dollars for that) and I am very glad I did it myself.

This unit is extremely sturdy and well put together. I was a bit nervous to buy this because I have young kids I did not want to trash it. Believe me, they couldn''t! This is far too well-designed and durable.

Worked out for about an hour, and I love it. Lots of exercises you can do (both muscular and cardio) and you can really feel it.

As others have noted on other models, I can see how the weights (200 lbs) might not be enough, but I am not looking to become the Incredible Hulk. This unit is perfect to stay fit and not let those holiday meals get the upper hand.

I really recommend this to anyone who wants to work at home and does not want to be bored with the same old routine (treadmill, stationary bike, etc.)

Great job, Bowflex!

Buy Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym Now

I assembled this Bowflex in less than two hours without any difficulty. The build quality is very good, and the manual is rich with information for configuring a work-out. After one week of use, however, I regret my purchase. This unit''s maximum resistance cannot be upgraded. It''s rated for 210 lbs, but it doesn''t even come close to that free-weight equivalent. The resistance numbers are arbitrary. For example, the resistance of a combination of a 30 lb and a 20 lb rod feels half as heavy as a 50lb rod. I am athletic but not massive, and I could bench the entire "210 lbs". Biceps curls and triceps pushdowns are fine. For leg exercises, the weight is inadequate, period.

This machine offers aerobic activity in addition to strength training. It just doesn''t offer the resistance for body building. That said, using this machine has convinced me that Bowflex and resistance technology could offer a good strength workout, just not in this limited configuration. I recommend the PR3000.

I absolutely love this item. I lost 7 pounds in the first five days and after almost one month the only times I cheated was when I worked out on my "off days."

Assembly was quick and easy. I was done in about an hour and a half and was and remain more than satisfied with the quality of this machine. I am very impressed with the it''s design and engineering.

The bad news is I broke a rod on my first rep of my first exercise. That didn''t bother me too much as it was fairly easy to use the machine without one rod. Also, the service department was quick to respond.

The only other drawback is that there is not enough weight to work the legs. However, I imagine it won''t be too difficult to get a rod pack offering more resistance.

Bottom line is the drawbacks of this machine are minor and are vastly outweighed by the numerous advantages. I have combined the Bowflex workout with a daily walk, improved diet and hydration and have seen quick and dramatic results.

This review is broken into the following sections:

* Ordering and Shipping

* Assembly

* Exercises

* The Machine

Ordering and Shipping:

I purchased this for a good price via Amazon. Shipping went well, product arrived in a timely manner.

Assembly:

I assembled the machine yesterday. For a short woman in her 50''s whose only "helper" was her dog, I found the assembly went pretty well (4 hours). In a couple of places the instructions could have been a bit clearer. I can see how assembly would have been a snap if I had had a different helper or if I were taller or if I already had a bowflex body :-) for tightening down all the bolts but all it all, assembly wasn''t too bad.

Exercises:

The machine includes an Owner''s Manual which describes two things.

1. Various exercise routines (list of exercises) you can follow depending on your goals and current level of fitness. These purport to be aligned to adhere to the 20 mins-per-day, 3 days-per-week mantra that is part of their advertising.

2. A title of each exercise, the equipment to use for the exercise, and a drawing attempting to depict the movement being done in the exercise. This is the first place where I found the "system" to be lacking. Not having been a gym rat, I had had only minimal previous experience with gym equipment and the drawings aren''t clear what movement is expected. They also provide a card that gives the initial and final position for some of the exercises, but again, no information on what one is to do to get from A to B. Between the manual, the card, and a few videos out on the Internet, I could figure out what most of the exercises are, but this area is sorely lacking. Since this is supposed to be an entry-level machine, it would have been expected that Bowflex would provide better guidance in this area. So I docked them one star for this.

The Machine:

The machine itself appears to be of good quality. And after the first workout, I am sore, which is what''s to be expected. But I am an overweight, out-of-shape, 50-yr-old woman and even I could Leg Press the full weight (210lbs) on my first workout. And unfortunately, as others have observed, you cannot upgrade the PR1000.

This seems to me to be the second drawback, for which I docked them their second star. Coupled with the relatively low maximum weight, I could see the inability to upgrade being a big limitation for most men and any strong woman who is already in great shape. If that''s you, I would skip this machine and spend the money on another model or plan to supplement it.

Since I don''t come anywhere near to maxing out the weight for any of the upper-torso exercises, the machine is still very useful to me. If my upper body is able to max it out in a year or two I will be delighted. But for a really effective full-body workout, I''ll have to pull out my old "Thighs of Steel" and "Buns of Steel" videos to supplement my treadmill/Bowflex regimen.

When I ordered these pants, I thought that I was getting workout pants. Unfortunately, they had back pockets and a fake fly that are styled after jeans. In my opinion, they look ridiculous. They remind me of the sweatpants that are supposed to look like jeans.

OMG, I''m totally in love with those pants! Keeping in mind I go to the gym everyday, they are such a great quality and look amazing. Undershorts hide underwear and make it absolutely not visible (which is important when you do some stretching or something similar). Also the material is very thick, so it''s very difficult to tear them apart. I bought them in the outlet, not on the Amazon, but they look the same and I would def buy them again if Amazon had my size.

Would 100% recommend this item to everyone! you totally won''t regret it!
